Avatar m tn my 22 year old son just experienced a psychotic break. I need to understand how he was feeling. Is there anyone who has personally experienced this, and would be willing to describe what you felt? I am desperate to understand what he is going through.
Avatar m tn My pdoc yesterday told me it's possible to have a psychotic break from too severe anxiety. This scares me bad, what is that? Does that mean I'll go crazy and hurt someone? Myself? Has anyone ever had one of these? Also is there anyone here that has had several months of severe anxiety, then slowly goes back to several months of calm? I'm afraid this feeling will last forever. Just to make sure I'm experiencing this "anxiety" what does it feel like to u all?
Avatar f tn t until I had a psychotic break that I was diagnosed. It seems that after I was diagnosed (after my break) that I haven't gotten back to the "pre-break" feeling. (I stay in the depressed more than the mania) I know part of that is because of medications and we don't always want/need to get back to the "pre-break" feelings, but I am wondering... Does a psychotic break change our disorder to a permanently detiorated state? Does it just get worse on it's own?
447130 tn?1225470866 has recenlty been traumatized, then had a complete meltdown which the docs called a Psychotic Break? They are hospitalized for being a danger to themselves & others. I don't have much more info than that. What does this mean? Is it temporary? How long can it last & does anyone know how long you can be held by law? Or is that a state by state issue? Thanks for your help.
Avatar m tn Let's say i suffer from psychotic depression.I read it is treat with a combination of antipsychotic and triciyclic antidepressants.
1116728 tn?1276797124 I will say that when I was having my very powerful delusions I had no idea that they were delusions. I believed everything about them 100% and that to me it was very logical and made sense at that time. Once I was away from whatever was causing them long enough not only did I stop believing them, but I actually completely put them out of my head. I did not think about them again until I was confronted with the place that was central to the delusion.
Avatar f tn As to your question that's complex. A manic episode is a mental change in that its a break from reality. A person's emotions are not normative to what is going on. It may impair judgement such as the grandiosity typical for mania where a person has an inflated sense of self importance. As for psychosis that is a sharp break from reality in logical and normative thinking.
Avatar m tn I smoked weed heavily for 8 years. I did end up with a psychotic break, but only after many years and use of other drugs like alcohol and cocaine. I think you may be feeling some guilt about your drug use and imagining you are being "punished" with side effects. How long ago did you smoke? Any residual effects from marijuana should disappear within a month. If you still have symptoms after a month and they are impacting your daily life, please talk to your doctor.
Avatar n tn Well, I'm not sure about that. Antipsychotics don't work right away. Tranquilizers do. Antipsychotics, if they do work, work all the time. Tranquilizes only work for a short period of time and then wear off. If she took this as an antipsychotic injection, it would be during an emergency situation but she would have to take the shots for several months and then go on the medication for longer than that.
Avatar f tn Husband diagnosed 11 months ago with BP, had a Major Manic Episode (tried to commit suicide), Psychotic/Paranoid for at least 3 months. Was on meds (Risperdal and Depakote) for only 6 months and abruptly stopped. Taking no meds now. He left home 1 months ago. He wanted to separate and there was nothing his family and I could do! The one thing that still Puzzles me is that since he was Psychotic (and of course 'making things up' I wouldn't call them lies...
Avatar f tn Ok. But is it common to be manic all year round like I am. Even with the meds. Like I said I only hit the depressive mode when I hear a certain melody or when its those to holidays but I never stay in it for long. But I wouldnt say just depressed its mixed.
1303813 tn?1303159362 Cassandra they will know right away when the baby gets here whether or not this has happened because the fluid becomes meconium stained...They evaluate that when they either break your water or when the baby is delivered. Most of the time this doesnt happen unless past your due date...
Avatar m tn Risperdal is an anti-psychotic but that's a subclinical dose so perhaps your psychiatrist prescribed it for panic attacks but I haven't heard of it for that use though it may have some effects. There is no particular interaction between the two medications. If it helps then see what happens. At that small dose there shouldn't be many problems and at any dose those two medications can be used together safely.
Avatar f tn You will shurly know when it happens cuz it will run out like a fauset that's what happens to me
Avatar m tn Has anyone ever experienced anything like this or even remotely like this. Several times throughout the past few years, and more so recently, I get an unnerving/disturbing sensation in my head. It typically happens at night when I am in bed. It's both a physical and auditory sensation. It feels like a taught metal cord has been snapped, like a thick base guitar string but the sound does not linger. Its a metallic sound and I can almost feel it when it happens.
1351968 tn?1278205300 In mood swings there are difficulties in the understanding of emotions and relations with people and ability to focus and understand things and make appropriate decisions but when a person encounters psychotic symptoms there is a full break in reality testing. If you are concerned about any specific symptoms you have it would be essential to discuss them with your psychiatrist and of course if you have any new symptoms of any kind always bring it to their attention.

Avatar m tn Sometimes drugs poop out when a traumatic event happens -- a break-up caused a drug to stop working for me, so it does happen. My view is you need to do this in talk therapy to find out why you're having this reaction. I'd do that personally before going up in dosage because you'll either have to stay at a higher dosage or deal with going back down again, but you and your doctor are better equipped to deal with this than me.
Avatar f tn It stems from mistakes I made when I had my psychotic break a few years ago. I did some things that just shame me to no end - mostly financial. Some of them were apparent when I lost everything (financially) and some others aren't completely out there. And of course, my suicide attempt that very few people close to me know about. This panic has led to anxiety and the anxiety to severe depression.
Avatar f tn Ok, I'm a first time mom to be... I don't know what happens first. Do you start having bad contractions then your water breaks? Or does your water break and contractions? I don't know about all this labor stuff.
Avatar m tn It sounds like you're having manic or psychotic episodes. Do you think you're disassociating yourself from something that is stressing out? I find myself doing the same thing as you describe. Just take a break from typing when you can. It's like a written word salad. I don't believe you can do much about it except maybe go to the doctor and talk about maybe Adderall to keep you concentrated?
3236191 tn?1451021479 So my dreams have always been foggy/cloudy as if I were just imagining them while awake but lately my dreams have become very vivid as if I'm not even in my body while I'm having them. My meds were coincidentally increased and are having more of a positive effect on me than they did last time they were increased but I've also had a psychotic break between now and then.
Avatar m tn after attempting the HCV trmt interferon with Ribaviran for less than 2 wks had a psychotic break and then was but on an antidepressant. Avatar n tn Here is what is going on, let me say right now I have not drunk alcohol for 5 months straight and I have not taken any illegal drugs for 3 months. Just to sum up that, as you'll probably ask that later. I am asking if psychosis exists in bipolar disorder because I have been experiencing episodes that make it difficult to concentrate on anything. I frequently have blackouts, where I honestly cannot remember how I got from point A to point B.
Avatar f tn I agree with lurooney, if your waters break and your not having contractions (or if they break preterm) phone the hospital, they may need to monitor you as there is a risk of infection once your waters break.
Avatar n tn t talk to me and had 5 children. I had a psychotic break due to neglect and trauma and had to leave my children to get better. I have a good job, a home, and lots of friends, but my children and family don't talk to me since I am well now. I am off medicine and feeling weird, like I am becoming myself or something, but waking up with anxiety, itching, and so tired. I just want to wake up and feel refreshed, but never are.
