Common Questions and Answers about Psychotic break family

psychotic

Avatar m tn My pdoc yesterday told me it's possible to have a psychotic break from too severe anxiety. This scares me bad, what is that? Does that mean I'll go crazy and hurt someone? Myself? Has anyone ever had one of these? Also is there anyone here that has had several months of severe anxiety, then slowly goes back to several months of calm? I'm afraid this feeling will last forever. Just to make sure I'm experiencing this "anxiety" what does it feel like to u all?
Avatar m tn my 22 year old son just experienced a psychotic break. I need to understand how he was feeling. Is there anyone who has personally experienced this, and would be willing to describe what you felt? I am desperate to understand what he is going through.
Avatar f tn As to your question that's complex. A manic episode is a mental change in that its a break from reality. A person's emotions are not normative to what is going on. It may impair judgement such as the grandiosity typical for mania where a person has an inflated sense of self importance. As for psychosis that is a sharp break from reality in logical and normative thinking.
Avatar f tn t until I had a psychotic break that I was diagnosed. It seems that after I was diagnosed (after my break) that I haven't gotten back to the "pre-break" feeling. (I stay in the depressed more than the mania) I know part of that is because of medications and we don't always want/need to get back to the "pre-break" feelings, but I am wondering... Does a psychotic break change our disorder to a permanently detiorated state? Does it just get worse on it's own?
447130 tn?1225470866 has recenlty been traumatized, then had a complete meltdown which the docs called a Psychotic Break? They are hospitalized for being a danger to themselves & others. I don't have much more info than that. What does this mean? Is it temporary? How long can it last & does anyone know how long you can be held by law? Or is that a state by state issue? Thanks for your help.
Avatar n tn t talk to me and had 5 children. I had a psychotic break due to neglect and trauma and had to leave my children to get better. I have a good job, a home, and lots of friends, but my children and family don't talk to me since I am well now. I am off medicine and feeling weird, like I am becoming myself or something, but waking up with anxiety, itching, and so tired. I just want to wake up and feel refreshed, but never are.
Avatar n tn She is 20 years old and in college. Today she told me she felt like she was having a psychotic breakdown. What is this kind of breakdown?
Avatar f tn It stems from mistakes I made when I had my psychotic break a few years ago. I did some things that just shame me to no end - mostly financial. Some of them were apparent when I lost everything (financially) and some others aren't completely out there. And of course, my suicide attempt that very few people close to me know about. This panic has led to anxiety and the anxiety to severe depression.
100309 tn?1328041299 Haldol is an anti-psychotic and Reglan (an anti-nausea) is also in the anti-psychotic family. I was given Reglan a long time ago because I had a CSF leak from a LP, I was in severe pain and the Reglan made me FREAK out! I have heard of some ER docs giving IV Haldol for HA, although it does cause some pretty bad adverse side effects! UGH, I can sympathize with you.. After they gave me that Reglan, it felt like I was going to have a heart attack. I was anxious times a million.

Avatar f tn Things were disturbing and extreme and I needed medication as soon as I had my first psychotic break. My mother has cyclothymia (mild bipolar) and perhaps anxiety disorder (again onsite or off I agree only a psychiatrist can make a conclusive diagnosis, her therapist has tentatively agreed to this) and she has gone for over 65 years without medication and I am helping her approach treatment.
Avatar f tn Well the psychiatrist she is seeing could explain her diagnosis to the family but that could be bipolar with psychotic features. That like all psychiatric disabilities is treatable but it takes some time for the medication to build up to a working dose. After that things should begin to stabilize with her and of course the family should follow up to see that she recieves proper outpatient services.
Avatar f tn Just found out (although also found out that husband has known about for 18 mos) that when they were 12/10 or 14/12, my older son sexually abused his younger brother. He is currently hospitalized after a psychotic break last night and stated this during his "assessment" by the doctor of what's been going on/what brought him to the ER. I was totally stunned and unaware that this has happened, if in fact it has. The boys/men!? are now 21 and 19 years old.
Avatar n tn Well, I'm not sure about that. Antipsychotics don't work right away. Tranquilizers do. Antipsychotics, if they do work, work all the time. Tranquilizes only work for a short period of time and then wear off. If she took this as an antipsychotic injection, it would be during an emergency situation but she would have to take the shots for several months and then go on the medication for longer than that.
Avatar n tn Being a bipolar 1 father, and talking with the partner of a bipolar 1, I almost didn't respond to this, as I don't want to be discouraging. Well, here goes. I can distinctly see how my bipolar was amplified by having kids. As far as stress goes, I don't think I have ever felt more stress than being a dad. And yes, stress can trigger bipolar. If marriage made him manic, kids are a much bigger stress than that.
Avatar f tn Ok. But is it common to be manic all year round like I am. Even with the meds. Like I said I only hit the depressive mode when I hear a certain melody or when its those to holidays but I never stay in it for long. But I wouldnt say just depressed its mixed.
Avatar f tn Husband diagnosed 11 months ago with BP, had a Major Manic Episode (tried to commit suicide), Psychotic/Paranoid for at least 3 months. Was on meds (Risperdal and Depakote) for only 6 months and abruptly stopped. Taking no meds now. He left home 1 months ago. He wanted to separate and there was nothing his family and I could do! The one thing that still Puzzles me is that since he was Psychotic (and of course 'making things up' I wouldn't call them lies...
1351968 tn?1278205300 In mood swings there are difficulties in the understanding of emotions and relations with people and ability to focus and understand things and make appropriate decisions but when a person encounters psychotic symptoms there is a full break in reality testing. If you are concerned about any specific symptoms you have it would be essential to discuss them with your psychiatrist and of course if you have any new symptoms of any kind always bring it to their attention.
Avatar f tn I also functioned while suffering with symptoms of paranoid schizophrenia myself for the longest time (although with difficulty) before I finally had my first full psychotic break and then couldn't function without medication at all as another example.
Avatar m tn Mostly, I tend to go off in the mountains, but sometimes, I have done some pretty embarrassing things. My psychotic break was about 18 months ago now. It took a good year to fully recover. I so relate to you saying that you "thought" you were doing better, but were likely still manic or affected by your break or bipolar. I too kept going back to start up my life again, as it was, but couldn't seem to function well for very long.
Avatar n tn When I was younger before my diagnosis I had similar psychotic features and I was treated for major depression with psychotic features. I was treated with anti depressants and anti pyschotics. Unfortunately the anti d's triggered rapid cycling and lithium was then added to the mix. If it helps I no longer hear voices, it stopped around age 20. Now during an episode I have classic bipolar features.
3236191 tn?1451021479 So my dreams have always been foggy/cloudy as if I were just imagining them while awake but lately my dreams have become very vivid as if I'm not even in my body while I'm having them. My meds were coincidentally increased and are having more of a positive effect on me than they did last time they were increased but I've also had a psychotic break between now and then.
Avatar m tn after attempting the HCV trmt interferon with Ribaviran for less than 2 wks had a psychotic break and then was but on an antidepressant. He stayed on an antidepressant for approximately 4 years then attempted the peglayted interferon with Ribaviran for less than 2 wks and again had multiple anxiety issues.......he is now dealing with type2 diabetes, liver cirrhosis and Biolar 1 issues Proceed with caution on medication.....
Avatar f tn t break up your Childrens home because their fathers family chose to break up his. If he was that close to his dad nothing would be able to come between that. Honestly my Fathers family wasn't so nice to my Mother either even though my Mother tried and ALWAYS include them. My Grandmother used to tell us "in the eyes of the Catholic Church my parents aren't married because my Mom isn't a Catholic".
