psychotic

Avatar m tn my 22 year old son just experienced a psychotic break. I need to understand how he was feeling. Is there anyone who has personally experienced this, and would be willing to describe what you felt? I am desperate to understand what he is going through.
Avatar m tn My pdoc yesterday told me it's possible to have a psychotic break from too severe anxiety. This scares me bad, what is that? Does that mean I'll go crazy and hurt someone? Myself? Has anyone ever had one of these? Also is there anyone here that has had several months of severe anxiety, then slowly goes back to several months of calm? I'm afraid this feeling will last forever. Just to make sure I'm experiencing this "anxiety" what does it feel like to u all?
Avatar f tn t until I had a psychotic break that I was diagnosed. It seems that after I was diagnosed (after my break) that I haven't gotten back to the "pre-break" feeling. (I stay in the depressed more than the mania) I know part of that is because of medications and we don't always want/need to get back to the "pre-break" feelings, but I am wondering... Does a psychotic break change our disorder to a permanently detiorated state? Does it just get worse on it's own?
447130 tn?1225470866 has recenlty been traumatized, then had a complete meltdown which the docs called a Psychotic Break? They are hospitalized for being a danger to themselves & others. I don't have much more info than that. What does this mean? Is it temporary? How long can it last & does anyone know how long you can be held by law? Or is that a state by state issue? Thanks for your help.
Avatar f tn With psychotic features just means you experience psychotic symptoms when manic and/or depressed but particularly while manic. Psychosis from bipolar disorder can possibly be recovered from fully with the right medication unlike let's say schizophrenia for example where classically the patient usually doesn't recover to baseline fully after their first full psychotic break with the current medications out there.
1351968 tn?1278205300 In mood swings there are difficulties in the understanding of emotions and relations with people and ability to focus and understand things and make appropriate decisions but when a person encounters psychotic symptoms there is a full break in reality testing. If you are concerned about any specific symptoms you have it would be essential to discuss them with your psychiatrist and of course if you have any new symptoms of any kind always bring it to their attention.
Avatar m tn Due to going psychotic on Lithium and having flat affect from Lamictal, I have been off all meds for several months now. My Psychotic Break a year ago this month lead me to try meds, but quite them, once I felt stable enough. I went to see my doctor and discovered I have 3 fractured vertebrae in my back, which explains a lot, my physical limitations trigger me.
Avatar n tn m sorry about your son and I hope he gets better soon. Sometimes something can tip off a psychotic break and even though that chemical is not longer there it takes a while to come back from it. Also, the marijuana may have been laced with another chemical he didn't know about. Typically its amphetimines or cocaine that are more likely to cause psychosis.
Avatar f tn I am currently recovering from a severe depression with suicide ideation in which i apparently had psychotic symptoms. Has anyone else had psychosis without knowing what it was until speaking to your therapist about what was going on? and does anyone have any advice as to what to look for in oneself when psychosis starts?
Avatar f tn As to your question that's complex. A manic episode is a mental change in that its a break from reality. A person's emotions are not normative to what is going on. It may impair judgement such as the grandiosity typical for mania where a person has an inflated sense of self importance. As for psychosis that is a sharp break from reality in logical and normative thinking.
603015 tn?1329862973 Yes of course like anything else. Before I recovered I would know things were not going well. I would not of course know the specifics. I would then speak to my psychiatrist. But if someone is completely psychotic they lose track of reality completely. As well a person's awareness they that have a psychiatric disability can be completely lost. I did once before I recovered stop medication and of course have to sign myself into the psychiatric hospital.
16615961 tn?1454420087 I am a 29 year old female and I have suffered from PTSD from a repetitive traumatic experience since age 9. I have been in and out of counseling since age 15 and nothing has really seemed to help. I'm a very private person usually and I have a hard time being face to face with professionals, discussing my experiences, becsuse I don't feel like I can relate to them. Therefore, I feel I don't think they can help me if they haven't experienced similar trauma.
1201916 tn?1277603095 It works better than Geodon did for me but I take it for a psychotic disorder rather than a mood disorder but bipolar disorder can have psychotic symptoms and every medicine works differently for each person.
Avatar m tn Being open about my true nature has been one of the hardest parts of my recovery so far, other than my psychotic break, which led me to not caring what I had to do to get better. If it were me, I'd tell your partner as soon as I thought it was getting serious.
585414 tn?1288941302 But the fact that it stopped that dissociation that was clearly psychotic (and I was never psychotic otherwise after recovery) but only experienced during the wide variety of spasms from the advanced tardive dyskinesia does indicate something to me.
1965148 tn?1354978634 I think that bipolar disorder can be with or without psychotic features. Since you seem to be having some psychosis then I would say you have it with. I think they have to observe you over time to get an acurate diagnosis. Therefor you would have to meet the diagnostic creiteria outlined in the DSM IV to recieve a diagnosis.
585414 tn?1288941302 The panic attacks can also act as a catalyst to trigger a psychotic break in my schizophrenia and the schizophrenia can feed off of the traumatic events and trigger the PTSD. It's a catch 22 situation really. I've heard both can cause psychotic symptoms which I'm not too sure when which is causing my psychotic symptoms if that is true. I know at least I experienced psychotic symptoms before I developed PTSD or even went through the traumas which lead to PTSD.
Avatar n tn Well, I'm not sure about that. Antipsychotics don't work right away. Tranquilizers do. Antipsychotics, if they do work, work all the time. Tranquilizes only work for a short period of time and then wear off. If she took this as an antipsychotic injection, it would be during an emergency situation but she would have to take the shots for several months and then go on the medication for longer than that.
1134609 tn?1269272200 I was placed on it a few years ago and had a psychotic break.
Avatar m tn Mostly, I tend to go off in the mountains, but sometimes, I have done some pretty embarrassing things. My psychotic break was about 18 months ago now. It took a good year to fully recover. I so relate to you saying that you "thought" you were doing better, but were likely still manic or affected by your break or bipolar. I too kept going back to start up my life again, as it was, but couldn't seem to function well for very long.
Avatar f tn Husband diagnosed 11 months ago with BP, had a Major Manic Episode (tried to commit suicide), Psychotic/Paranoid for at least 3 months. Was on meds (Risperdal and Depakote) for only 6 months and abruptly stopped. Taking no meds now. He left home 1 months ago. He wanted to separate and there was nothing his family and I could do! The one thing that still Puzzles me is that since he was Psychotic (and of course 'making things up' I wouldn't call them lies...
Avatar m tn Going cold turkey with all of the high powered drugs i was on if i took one hydocodone as a "break" would it set me back or would i be able to get a little rest tonight and pick up where i left off?
987762 tn?1671273328 d been involuntarily admitted to a state hospital for treatment in his mid teens, he told me he wanted to get away from his controlling mother and faked a break down. He also said the experience was great because he enjoys playing mind games with psychs, he had them all fooled and when he'd had enough he just said what they needed to hear so he could get out etc.
Avatar n tn I have been diagnosed with dissociative disorder and ptsd before i had a major psychotic episode where i felt everything was repeating itself war, protests from the native people blocking major highways, noise of airplanes, it was canada day. I am a survivor of a war, my city was under siege for two months i lost friends at 14, I've seen a lot of sadness in my younger years but i don't understand why this hit me at 41. I am scared to be in that mental state again.

899491 tn?1243773627 I think she was overly concerned. She kept telling one lady that I was having problems with my mother in ill health. The lady always mentioned the gossiper all the time like we were big buddies. My mother is getting old and I expect certain illnesses will affect her but I felt it was over done by the gossiper. And I felt it was overly done. I don't like people putting their own spin on things to suit their needs. Some people do live through other people.
