Avatar n tn I have taken Propanolol and Effexor for a couple of years with no issues. I don't take the Propanolol for anxiety but for a tremor in my hand. Propanolol is used as an anxiety medication, cluster headaches, high BP and tremors like mine. I have taken it with just about every antidepressant out there with no issues. At one time I also took a BP medication with it due to high BP and with no problems. Although with lifestyle changes I was able to get off of the BP medication.
Avatar n tn Psychiatrists are specialists, and have experience and deeper knowledge of psychiatric diagnosis, etiology, and treatment than a general practitioner. Regarding the issue of the danger of these medications, stimulants such as Concerta are widely considered to be among the safest of all psychiatric medications.

I am going to have to do some checking around for some centers. We live in no mans land so pretty hard to find anything, It does not help that his sister was taken by ambulance last night to Er and we are currently waiting to see what time surgery is.

Avatar f tn All this research should have been conducted a long time ago and it should be required now not just for approved medications but for all medications, especially psychiatric medications for dosage, efficacy and safety. And some psychiatric disabilities such as ADHD respond to cognitive behavioral therapy which in some situations can be used instead of medication.
Avatar f tn Both my children are on med’s and both are doing well right now. But it is never a dull moment and we never know when things might get crazy. I would be willing to talk to you, if you would like, my email is ***@****, as you stated there symptoms are long and many and started very early, my older son was different from the moment he was born. 757137 tn?1347196453 Medication has helped a tremendous amount of people and I feel happy to live in an era that medications are available to help adults and children. There are many things available to us and seeing a specialist in mental health is one of them. When you do, you will be treated for your clinical presentation of a psychiatric disorder. For children, a prudent parent would try other options first as a good parent does not relish medicating their kid.

Avatar f tn Other medical/psychiatric conditions I have are hypothyroidism and bi-polar disorder/depression for which I take levothyroxine (Synthroid), divalproex (Depakote) and bupropion (Welbutrin). The medication information for the Medrol dose-pack states cautious use in those with hypothyroidism, psychiatric history, being treated with an anti-convulsant, and on bupropion, as it could produce mood changes and affect the seizure threshold.
Avatar m tn Yes that can if misused worsen the symptoms of bipolar and other psychiatric disabilities. A person with a psychiatric disability can also sometimes self medicate with illegal drugs or taking prescription medications for purposes other than intended.
Avatar f tn He is a beautiful soul, but he suffers with his challenges. He got diagnosed with an anxiety disorder and depression last year. He is under the care of a medical team, and it looks like he may have early on-set bipolar disorder as he has massive mood swings ranging from being calm, to irritable, to extreme anger, to feeling very down and suicidal, to over-excitedness. This can all be in half an hour at times!
Avatar f tn He does have some serious issues from drug use, abusive behavior, and it could be psychiatric and psychological. Bipolar is one thing it could also be boarderline personality disorder (BPD.) It mimics bipolar and also can go along with bipolar, (people can have both.) It has that love you/hate you attitude. But, he needs to want to help himself and you need to make sure you and your children are safe from abuse.
Avatar f tn in fact it is dangerous to stop psychiatric medications in one day. If you wish to stop your medications you need to consult your doctor. I don't understand your second question can you explain what you mean?
Avatar m tn Ryan is no longer responding to medication questions on this forum. You well know that none of us on this forum are doctor's or pharmacists, but it's my humble and non-medical opinion that you are on way too many meds at far too high a dosage! 8mg qd (every day) of Xanax is a very large dose! You are also taking 6mg of clonazepam qd. and 100mg of Zoloft. You state that you've been taking this amount for "about" the last 6 months.
Avatar m tn 16 day after taking the medications my father suddenly refuse to take his medication and refuse to eat and his condition had worsened, As if he has lost his will to live. He is now in a psych unit and now taking clonidine and lorazepam, we hope that this combination will work for him coz, we, the family, are already suffering from his condition. Does the benefit outweighs the risk in trying prozac for an elderly patient? and does clonidine better in teating deppression?
573297 tn?1304709140 has been very helpful for some people with a psychiatric disability and some people with a psychiatric disability do find that a cat or dog has a calming effect. As for this being classified as an accomodation, its new to the law and that's in the U.S. As for myself, I keep all the medications I need when traveling (including ordinary trips which for myself require Access A Ride and home attendant) but by law they must be in their original prescription container.
Avatar f tn Panadol (paracetamol) and adhd can't be caused by taking medication.
Avatar n tn Can Antiallersin (contains Promethazine hydrochloride) and Cipralex (escitalopram) be taken at the same time? The Antiallersin's manual says to avoid mixing with antidepresants, and the Cipralex's manual forbids prescription to children under 18 to avoid risk of suicidal thoughts and anger. A doctor has prescribed BOTH medications to a 16 year old girl who is complaining of aggression, anger and suicidal thougths. Is the doctor wrong?

802234 tn?1237830136 Seroquel causes cataracts. That much is known. If that happenned he should be transferred to another antipsychotic. I believe Seroquel is the only antipsychotic known to do that (I had to get regular eye tests when I was on it). Abilify is the antipsychotic with the best side effect profile. I have made a full recovery from schizoaffective disorder with an antipsychotic agent (for more information google "Dr.
Avatar f tn Nobody can answer this, as side effects and withdrawal effects of meds differ considerably from person to person. This is particularly difficult in India, as it appears the docs there really load on the drugs, but maybe that's just my perception from the posts on here from people from India. You also didn't say if you stopped them abruptly, or tapered off them carefully -- that can make a difference.
969154 tn?1264690517 I also have suffered from great depression and also suicidal feelings I then just think of my children and what I would miss. Plus their father my husband committed suicide 2 yrs ago and I think that would just send them over the edge. I am so glad you are feeling much better and things will just keep falling in line. Here's to getting the help you need!
2211627 tn?1339141123 Hi, I have only just stopped taking this medication and even though in my experience I have to deal with weight gain with most psychiatric medication this wasn't the case when taking citalopram. All medications effect people differently and obviously side effects can be issue. I would, if you are concerned, contact your doctor for advice.
1703515 tn?1350500231 I'm not sure about that possible interaction in particular, but I do know that the hormones in many types of birth control can interact with certain psychiatric medications. It would be a good idea to ask the prescribing doctors of each medication and the pharmacist. In my experience, not all doctors are aware of the interactions between psychiatric medications and birth control.

Several ended up involuntarily committed and all ended up with serious psychiatric records prohibiting them from owning firearms. Get hold of one of the many books written by Dr. Thomas Szasz such as "The myth of mental illness". Ordinary sunlight exposure, at least 45 minutes a day, can relieve many psychiatric disorders. Not all of them.
