Avatar f tn My dad is diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder. He has been taking Effexor and Depakote which has successfully brought him out of a depressed state. His wife asked his psychiatrist to find a substitute for the Depakote due to significant weight gain. The doctor prescribed Tegretol instead. Then my dad quit taking his Effexor (I'm not sure why) and his depression symptoms suddenly returned.
Avatar m tn Hi I am a 30 year old male. I am on Meds for panic disorder/social anxiety disorder and depression. I'm on a bit of a cocktail, Wellbutrin, Klonopin, Prozac,Propanol, a goal of my MD and mine is to make the cocktail smaller. I am fortunate to have a great doc who actually does 45minute sessions. He listens and wants to know what is going on in the patients life, wants the patients input on Meds. He is not a drive thru doc like I hear about and have experienced who sees 4 patients an hour.
Avatar f tn I think you are right about the withdrawal symptoms from going from one med to the other without weaning off first. Thanks for your advice. Will look into going and seeing a psychiatrist for help with this! Thanks so much!
Avatar f tn I remember something vaguley that the withdrawal of Prozac can bring on orginal symptoms and that they will pass with the withdrawal process. Or am I feeling like this because I need prozac and I should never have come off and never will come off?????? I also have the physical symptons of bloating , stomach cramps insomnia, vivd dreams etc but accept that these will go away in time. But the question is am I a chronicly unhappy person or is it just the withdrawal and it will pass?
1422233 tn?1282701102 This question could also qualify as a depression one so I hope it's ok to post it here. I'm a 22 year old female & have anxiety, depression, & OCD. I have been on Paxil (the generic brand) for about three years now. A couple of weeks ago I started to feel like it wasn't working for me anymore. I can feel the anxiety & I get down. It's not as bad as before I was on the Paxil, but I think I need a change. I have a Doctors' appointment this week.
Avatar n tn The constant physical symptoms have ruined my quality of life. I feel terrible every day, but no one can or will try to diagnose my symptoms. Can these symptoms be caused by Prozac and are they permanent? I really want to stop this medicine because I'm having strange neurological symptoms (numbness in extremities, a weird gait when I walk, pain shooting up and down my spine and into my head and horrid ringing in the head and ears).
Avatar f tn What I do know if that my psychiatrist thinks its just plain old depression and not the withdrawal. She increased my prozac from 10mg to 20mg.
Avatar f tn Hey Megan, I am 72 years old and after 20 years of being on anti depressants, I am now free of all medication. Like you I have been on many different anti depressants over the years. I took Zoloft for quite a few years, and it worked well for me. It is just that my doctor thought I needed a change. I understand that St John's Wort works for people with mild depression, so it may be worth a try. I have never tried it myselof.
Avatar m tn I've been off work for 3 months now and have just maxed out on Wellbutrin SR to help with major depression. It's not helping so now I need to try another AD. I took Prozac a few years ago and had good success for a few years, so I think my next step to try the Prozac again. I tried Effexor for about 8 months but it never really helped. I experienced extreme withdrawal from it while switching to wellbutrin.
Avatar f tn That being said I think your anxiety must be to the roof and I would gradually reduce the Prozac like you are doing and maybe halting the tapering the week before and during your vacations to avoid severe withdrawal symptoms but you may still get withdrawal symptoms. Does the withdrawal symptoms are worse than the adverse-effects you were getting on a full dose? Wellbutrin and Adderall is really not helping your anxiety and you should consider that.
Avatar m tn I hope this is in the correct thread; I tried to find a thread dedicated to just withdrawal from Tramadol but didn't find it. Please redirect me if I'm in the wrong place. I started Tramadol a year ago not realizing it was addictive.
1330182 tn?1279815900 Like cj29, I sympathize with your distress. I didn't have any problem discontinuing Prozac, but was taking a small dose of clonazapam at the same time, which may have helped. It is darn hard to figure out if anxiety and digestive issues are caused by the anxiety disorder or withdrawal from Prozac. My money is on the disorder. Can't believe hormone issues are the culprit. Always good to rule out physical sources of discomfort.
Avatar m tn I am out of options at this point and am willing to take or listen to ANY advice as to how I can better handle this withdrawal. I would like to know how long these symptoms last and if they ever go away. Even when I was being taken off the medication by my phyician lowering the dosage, the brain shivers had been starting. I have read online that the withdrawals take anywhere between days to months to years!
Avatar m tn Hi I came off Effexor cold turkey doctors fault, I am sorry to tell you but there.is no quick fix to your symptoms of withdrawal. I don't think Prozac is In the same group as Effexor. Effexor is a SNRI, what group is Prozac in ? My doctor changed me from Effexor to citalopram to dolsulipin that was in a different group and works on a different part of the brain. That means that you go into cold turkey.
Avatar f tn Anyone have severe chest pain caused by anxiety or depression? This pain is constant. Doctor wants me to go on prozac and wean off the ativan.
1331182 tn?1275475604 I started feeling dizzy when I went to 37.5mg. The doc said to basically make a clean switch to prozac, for example Tuesday take last dose of effexor and Wednesday take Prozac. I have read and read and read everything I could find about tapering and withdrawal. I have NOT read one thing about anyone just quitting effexor and being okay. It is because of the short half life of the drug, meaning it is out of your system the next day.
Avatar m tn Prozac stays in the body a long time, whereas Paxil leaves the body very quickly. That means Prozac is much less likely to have withdrawal effects than Paxil, but then, so do most meds! If you're treating depression, they are theoretically interchangeable, but the reality is, everyone is different. Paxil seems to be stronger than other ssris, possibly because of its larger effect on choline receptors, which accounts for some its difficulties.
Avatar f tn Hi i have been on prozac for it will be a month on friday , and it made me feel worse than good my anxiety seems have hit the roof thus resulting in having symptoms of depersonalization / derealization which let me tell you is scary as hell,:( so i went back to my docs today and told her how my anxiety is 10 times worse than it was as i got identified with GAD ( general anxiety disorder) which is id say harder to cope with than depression at the mo, so she suggest i switch from 20mg prozac to
Avatar n tn Next day I started taking 80 mg Prozac and withdrawal effects diminished. Also stopped gaining weight but cannot lose the pounds I gained during Effexor. After 3 weeks with Prozac I feel very tired all day, even after sleeping 15 hours or more. And depression came back and hit me. I donĀ“t know what to do.
532848 tn?1214345168 t know how much of my problem is Effexor withdrawals and how much is depression) recommended that in order to get off Effexor, you should be put on Prozac (sorry, I don't know the dosage) for several weeks, (it takes a long time for Prozac to take affect and also to leave your system), and then you taper off the Effexor AFTER the Prozac kicks in. I read this in a doctors forum by one of the few Psychiatrist's that actually acknowledges the effexor withdrawal problems.
Avatar f tn I have been nauseated and feel as though I have all the symptoms of severe depression. No motivation, sleeping 16-18 hours etc. This was a new Doctor for me. Family practice. I also quit smoking and was on Chantix at the same time. I thought the terrible side effects were Chantix. But I still am in trouble after stopping Chantix 7 weeks ago. Pretty nuts, a change from smoking 40 years, Effexor, Chantix, and Prozac. Should I quit every drug and start over?
Avatar f tn I spoke with my doctor and tapered off the dosage of effexor and started on Prozac to help with the withdrawal symptoms. I took my last 1/4 pill of 37.5 effexor 1 week ago. I have been so sick, unable to eat, drink, crying, phobic, scared, nauseated and unable to function. I am really worried about my job as I have been emotional there and unable to do my job properly. Yesturday I felt that I just couldn't get through it, drove to work but don't know how I did it.
Avatar f tn I was taking 40 mg prozac, 60 mg dexedrine, and taking xanex as needed. I just changed the prozac to 150 mg effexor, because my Insurance co. wouldn't let me continue getting brand name prozac (the generic brand didn't work the same. I had no problem changing over to effexor, no withdrawal effects from prozac. What made you get off the meds? That's wonderful you are no longer depressed. I don't think I will ever get off the anti-depressants.
