Prozac withdrawal how long

Common Questions and Answers about Prozac withdrawal how long

prozac

Avatar n tn I should note these are not discontinuation symptoms and are not symptoms I experienced prior to starting Prozac. They started due to the Prozac. I know it may take longer to disappear than other SSRIs due to its longer half-life.
Avatar f tn Do you think prozac is causing these problems? Unlikely it is withdrawal from Sertraline after 2 months. You should discuss this with your doctor. Your prozac dosage is very low, so it is probably not that. Nevertheless, what you are feeling is a worry. Looks like the cardiologist will give you the answer. The problem is now you are getting stressed about waiting so long for the appointment, and that is not helping, and stress and anxiety will give you bad palpitations.
Avatar f tn My guess is that this is the Effexor withdrawal, not the Prozac, as the Prozac will take about 4-6 weeks usually to start working. I also don't think it will help much with the Effexor withdrawal, as it's in a different class of drugs, no two drugs work the same or target the same neurotransmitter receptors, and you might get new side effects while getting used to the Prozac.
Avatar n tn t tell you if that will do the same thing...ease the withdrawal. My son was on prozac for 4 weeks and than the doctor stopped it Cold turkey (not sure if I agree with that method) 10 days ago. He is doing just Ok. side effects nothing like effexor though.
Avatar f tn Lorraine what did you switch to after effexor?? Monique how long was you on 20mg of prozac for before your doc upped your dose mine wants to wait at least 6 weeks. thanks for your comments ladies it means so much that i can come on here and have support and advice while i get through this ruff time.
1636357 tn?1300254494 Bad move, I know, but I longer have health insurance, hence the reason I stopped taking it. I was fine for a couple of weeks, as Prozac had a long half-life. The the brain zaps began...and still continue. My question is this: Is it possible that I may have brain zaps indefinitely? They are seriously driving me mad and I am at my wits end...I don't know what to do. I don't want to be a slave to this medication.
Avatar m tn Hi I have been on Remeron 30mg for 2.5 months for anxiety and it wasn't working. My doctor has put me on Prozac 20mg I have been taking this for 8 days and have been slowly tapering the Remeron. Am now down to 7.5mgs and will take 3.75mg tonight and tomorrow night and then stop. Today I feel very nausious and my head feels weird and Im a bit dizzy. Generally feel like crap. Could this be withdrawal from the Remeron or shouldn't I get withdrawal since Im on Prozac now.
Avatar f tn Luckily, Prozac has the longest half-life of the SSRI antidepressants, and people rarely experience intense withdrawal symptoms - even without weaning off of it. See how you do without the Prozac... if you need it again, it will always be there. Best of luck..
Avatar m tn Hi all just wished to find out from others past experience of the drug how long one should expect to experience withdrawal effects from prozac. Been off prozac myself for 2 1/2 weeks after changing to mirtazapine and now have buily up to an 45mg dose after 8 1/2 weeks but i'm experiencing a range of strange sensations over this whole period.
1295419 tn?1276822872 Anyone's guess as to how long the effects of 'quitting, cold turkey' can last. Suggest you talk it over with your qualified medical practitioner ~ we all differ in our meds/side effects. All AD's have side effects, these effects must be balanced by the benefits received.. Your choice.
1422233 tn?1282701102 Prozac is probably better for depression generally than it is for anxiety, and Paxil for whatever reason is very strong, probably because it also has a strong effect on choline receptors.
Avatar m tn hi guys :( my new dr got me off of effexor cold turkey. before that i was experiencing twitches that were so severe that i wouldn't be able to get a good night rest. after i explaining this to my new psych, he wanted to ween me off with prozac. for some time i started getting chest pains after taking prozac/effexor in the morning. subsequently, my dr ordered a full cold turkey off of effexor. that's when things got terrible.
Avatar f tn Wow this withdrawal is sooo hard. I was taking Prozac for panic attacks and OCD. I was being brave but didn't mentally prepare for this. I haven't really slept in the last week and have been having major stomach problems and OCD. I also have this weird thing where I stop breathing and when I realize I've stopped breathing I would take a big breath and that is almost every 5 minutes, and it happens in my sleep too.
Avatar f tn You say you were on Lexapro for a long time? Is that right? How did you stop taking it, abruptly or a slow taper taking as long as you needed to (here's hoping Lexapro has a liquid, because one of the hard things about only needing such a low dose is it's hard to break pills to do a taper off). I'm asking because some of the effects you're having sound more like withdrawal effects than the usual start-up effects of Prozac.
Avatar f tn Hi all, So I was on Effexor for a few years and recently weaned off of it (a slow taper over several months), but the withdrawal was so bad for me that my pdoc put me on 10mg of Prozac. After a week she determined it wasn't the withdrawal anymore and that I was just depressed - she increased my dose to 20mg. I have now been on the Prozac for three weeks and I still feel pretty bad.
Avatar n tn i recently started taking ultram after seeing my doctor and asking for a non-narcotic pain reliever. i have had serious problems with norco and lortab in the past. i recently started going to aa and have quit drinking and smoking, so naturally even though i have serious back pain i wanted OFF THE DRUGS. well, i switched from norco to ultram and when i ran out, i have started withdrawal REALLY bad. this is worse than i have ever experienced with the previous "narcotic" drugs.
Avatar n tn I feel dizzy like- out of it- jittery- just do not feel well at all- I cannot drive because I feel so bad- I was wondering if anyone knew how long this will last for? I am a really strong person & it just seems to be tough already! Does anyone have any ideas that could help ease these side effects or withdrawal? I typically do not do these blog type things- but I figure support of people that know what it's like would be great!
Avatar f tn I remember something vaguley that the withdrawal of Prozac can bring on orginal symptoms and that they will pass with the withdrawal process. Or am I feeling like this because I need prozac and I should never have come off and never will come off?????? I also have the physical symptons of bloating , stomach cramps insomnia, vivd dreams etc but accept that these will go away in time. But the question is am I a chronicly unhappy person or is it just the withdrawal and it will pass?
1331182 tn?1275475604 I think tomorrow I will stop the Effexor completely and begin taking Prozac 20mg and see how I feel. If I begin to feel withdrawal, what would people out there recommend I take as a supplement (Xanax, Fish Oil, St. John's Wort)? Thanks so much for the help!
Avatar f tn I have to disagree with your Dr. I know many people, including myself, that gained weight on Paxil. Prozac and Paxil are both antidepressants but they are different. I think you're most likely going through some withdrawal from the Paxil. You could also be having start up side effects from the Prozac. If we do get start up side effects it can be hard to say how long they'll last. I'm not sure what advice I can give you as far as what med to take.
Avatar m tn They really are clueless on withdrawal. This sounds like classic withdrawal. Nobody can tell you how long it will last, but frankly, compared with most reports of Effexor withdrawal, if this is your only symptom, you're doing great and will probably be fine in a couple of weeks. In the meantime, try a healthy dose of fish oil daily -- it's said to help with brain zaps, though what you're reporting sounds more like disorientation that is also a very common withdrawal effect.
Avatar f tn A lot of people don't get withdrawal. A lot do. Those two drugs aren't the worst for withdrawals. Prozac stays in the body for about a month, whereas the other ssris such as Zoloft leave in a matter of a day or less. So if there is going to be a withdrawal from Prozac, it's usually so long after quitting that shrinks probably don't attribute it to the Prozac.
Avatar f tn Talks a lot about withdrawal, how to deal with it, and how taking a different medication might help or hurt the process. I can tell you that Dr. Gould on the mental health forum usually says remeron isn't that difficult to quit, but then, he's a psychiatrist, and they're often morons.
20632981 tn?1503687567 No. Don't even try. Not worth the risk. You could be one of the many who do this easily, but it's truly not worth finding out. That long on a drug, just think how long it's been since your brain had to work for itself. I'm not going to tell you there aren't psychiatrists out there who believe you can just switch from one drug to another, but it makes no sense to me.
