Hi, I am taking 60mg Prozac in the morning (past 4 weeks) and then 100mg Lithium (down from 200) with .5mg Clonazepam at bedtime for depression. Since upping the prozac from the original 20 I find that i feel quite nausious in the mornings often with the need to pass loose motions 3 or 4 times. It does fade a bit during the day but I'm not sure what may be causing this. Any ideas?
My 15 yr. old daughter has been on Prozac since the end of December '08. At first it was for depression then after a month or so the Dr. thought she maybe Bipolar weened her off Prozac and put her on Abilify. Total disaster very bad reation after only 1 day. Stopped that went back to prozac for the last 1 1/2 months or so. She has just started showing strong signs again of manic and obsesive behavior. Dr.s thinking prozac has backfired.
I really had no other side effects from either med. Lithium is more for mania and prozac for depression. I take a Lithium/Wellbutrin combo and it is awsome for me. Controls both sides pretty darn good! It is really trial and error with any med, it might or might not effect your libido. Just have to try and see. If it does, switch again! I know tegretol kills it too. So you might do better on Lithium or Prozac.
Like you i am on Wellbutrin 150 mg amd 20mg of Prozac i do well on both have been for 2 yrs now. The prozac makes me tired i tried no prozac and 1 wellbutrin in the morning and 1 in the afternoon. I had more energy but i was snapping at everyone and being hateful so went back on the prozac my Dr. said the prozac dosnt make you tired but my body says the different.
I currently take Prozac, Lithium (ER), and Vyvanse each 1x a day. I also get an injection of Depo-Provera once every 3 months. I also have an Rx for Xanex, which is to be taken as needed, but I have not taken it in months. I also often self-medicate with caffine pills - I took two 200mg caffine pills yesterday around 5pm. I also took some Aleve at that time, as I have been having eye pain and headaches for the last two weeks and I was hoping to aleviate that pain.
once i went up to 200mg i felt very very spacey so i am back down to 150. about 5 weeks ago she took me off my prozac and on lithium. I started at 300mg then moved up to 600mg..at that dose i was getting very severe nausia. then last week on tues i started to cry and could not stop..you know the kind of cry where you just feel so hopeless and sad. this went on until xmas eve with feelings of paranoia and like noone liked me or wanted to be around me..
The doctor started her on Lithium at the same time we were weening her. The Lithium must be taken with food and like prozac, it causes nausea in my child. She was on 1 pill 300 mg in the evening for a week. Then it was increased to 2 pills at the same time the effexor was decreased to 75 mg. This lasted a week. Then, we dropped the Lithium back to 1 pill because of the extreme nausea lately.
When I stopped I lost the 40kgs just like that. With the lithium I am now excericising regularly including hard work outs with kickboxing, walking and gym. I haven't lost any weight and am thinking it is mainly water retention from the lithium . I am now on 250mg of lithium and zeldox since a reduction in dec 2010 but still no weight loss. Help !!! any tips on reducing the effects of the fluid retention!
hey, i have rapid cycling bipolar and am on a lot of medication, prozac, lithium, lamictal, seroquel. i have put on a lot of weight since going on these meds, ive practically doubled in size! im coming off prozac and intend to come off anything except lithium. Im afraid that i will have severe mood swings when i do this but i need to get my life back, i sleep most of the day because of fatigue and i need to lose weight! any advice please? be well.

i don't have psychiatric supervision to speak of right now, so i am making use of the meds i have available from past doctors only because i have ceased to function.
i am taking 80 mg fluoxetine plus 45 - 60 mg buspirone and i was wondering if there is reason for concern about serotonin syndrome with such a cocktail at those dosages. if it's a bad idea to be taking so much of the both of them, it's not necessarily a big deal for me to d/c them as i still lay in bed all day!
my dr is gpoing to up my prozac from 20 mg to 40 mg (I have been on prozac since march 3 and also xanax...before that i had been on ativan since may 09,,and in jan a dr tried me on lithium depakote and zyprexa all during the month of jan....the last one i was on was zyprexa and stopped it march 2 after only being on it about 2 weeks....
Does anyone have any ideas on what meds I can try other than Depakote, Cymbalta, and Geodon? What experience have people had with prozac? I'm thinking that a change in antidepressant is what I need. I will be switching to another psychiatrist soon, because my current one is leaving his practice. Hopefully I will get a new start on some new meds that can help me.
If you can take prozac alone, it is less likely you have bipolar because those types of drugs can spring a bipolar person into mania if they are not prescribed with a mood stabilizer like lamotrigine or lithium. Once you get medicaid it would be worth going to see a psychiatrist and get tested.
For cheap drugs check out Walmart. I think, although I could be wrong, that generic prozac is on their list of discounted drugs. Under $10 if I remember correctly.
but after being on so many meds in jan u know depakote,lithium,and zyprexa and now prozac im worried about seritonin syndrome...since being on the prozac i sweat alot...i think i did read thats a side effect....im doing more but im also kinda feel more sadness so my dr is upping the prozac from 20 mg to 40 mg.....im a bit worried about that as usual......i just feel so discouraged that nothing is gonna work.....and i cant take prozac in the day its makes me zonked...my dr was surprised by that..
Some of the one I am familiar with are Abilify, Geodon, Depakote, Lamictal, Lithium, Remeron, Aoloft, Prozac, and many many more. You may want to post and ask for a website link to get more info. I know one site www. NAMI.org is very good and has links. I think it boils down to good old fashion research.
Usually it's a combination of 2 or 3 meds to treat the different symtoms of Bipolar. Most people are not on just one med.
I seem to remember back 15 years ago that I was initially diagnosed with cyclothymia, and then moved back to my original home state and saw someone else that said it was Major depresssion and not cyclothymia. Currently psychiatrist in a partial hospital program that put me on Prozac said I now need to get off Prozac and we will try something else. She doesn't know if it is bipolar, but she thinks it is "activating me", and prescribed Risperadal 0.
I have tried so many diffrent meds and none seem to work however they all have the side effects I cannot stand, I took lithium and it made me super sick I lost 9 pounds in 4 days. with depokote all I did was sleep and feel like a dead head I am trying tegretol now and I am so bitchy seriously every one hates me even me. Even as I am being grouchy I feel like I should shut up but I cant and my muscles are so sore. Any one on a med that they love and would like to recomend?
For several years now I've been taking Remeron, Paroxitine, Wellbutrin XL and Lithium; everything is at the top dosage. Only the Wellbutrin and Lithium I take during the day. These drops have been going on for quite some time, but now are the very worst they have been.
Last year I had to quit a part time job because of this and got on the sub list. Mornings are my best times til 9:30am, I push myself thru chores and if I do go to work I pray that is only for 3.5hrs.
She has taken lithium for 30 years, plus prozac with great results and no problems with mood swings. We began noticing mania symptoms about 3 days after beginning first treatment ( Folfuri 46 hours on take home infusion pump). That was almost 3 wks ago. Had her 2nd tx 4 days ago. I mentioned mania to her oncologist who said steroids were probably to blame but due to RA she has had lots of steroids over last 9 yrs with no problems.
m not sure what the highest dose of Anafranil is but there are many other medications for OCD (many in the same category as Anafranil which are SSRI anti-depressents such as Prozac, Zoloft, Paxil, etc. that are also used for OCD) so you might want to speak to your psychiatrist about potentially changing you to another medication if Anafranil doesn't work anymore.
