prozac with ativan

My psychiatrist has just added Zyprexa to take with Prozac as the Prozac is not working like it used to work.I'm worried about the weight gain with Zyprexa, is there something else that could be used with the Prozac instead? Also until now I've also been taking 1 mg. Ativan in the morning and 1 mg Ativan before bed. Is it safe to use Ativan with the Zyprexa?

I got a new dr and he says i am depressed and put me on 20 mg of Prozac...as some of u know i have had problems for some time..well today is my 4th day on the prozac and he also had me stop my ativan and put me on a high dose of xanx 6 mgs....but im not taking that much he ssiad i could play around with the xanx dose,,,but i feel kinda more depressed today and im so drowsy and dizzy and my walking is bad kinda feel like im in slow motion and just cant walk good cause of the dizziness.

have been taking 3-4 mgs of ativan daily for 2 years, cant function without it. my doc just prescribed prozac, very low dose, have not picked uo script yet. has anyone taken these 2 meds together. iam afraid the prozac will make me more anxious. my anxiety is worse then my depresion, i think. anxiety paralizes me w/ fear.

Ditto on JSGeare. I was prescribed lexapro and prozac. Lexapro sent me to the ER with a major anxiety attack and prozac also made me nervous. Long story short, my doc. and physchiatrist recognized that I ONLY needed ativan for my anxiety. Unfortunately and for some reason, a lot of doctors out there are trying to treat anxiety with anti-depressants. Anti-depressants are uppers and they basically make you more nervous. These drugs are good for depressive folks. However, for anxiety...

I definately agree that because the prozac was too high for me,the ativan effects were amplified. I almost wish i started on the 10mg but I took prozac years ago and never had a problem and was actually on a much higher dose. Just strange how the body works,isn't it?

Has anyone ever heard of, or been on, the combination of 40mg Prozac, 30mg Dexedrine, and 4-6mg Ativan daily? I was on this for 7 years, along with narcotics for terrible migraines. Been drug free for 3 years with no depression, but man...was it awful getting off all that stuff! Would love to hear from anyone with this combo or hear any stories about Zoloft, Prozac, & Effexor side effects and withdrawals.

I may have to take the ativan till I get used to the prozac. I hear prozac can make you more anxious in the beginning, but it gets better. my anxiety/panic is 24/7. My body hurts from being so tense. I feel like I am dying all the time...It is horrible..I don't know how I got to this place. Losing my son was horrible. It was unexpected, he was hit and killed by a speeding driver when he was 11..I cry for him everyday and I suspect I am having some major ptsd with the anxiety.

ve found that both the benzos (valium, xanex, ativan etc..) AND the SSRIs (Prozac, Zoloft,etc..) help with palpitations. I have been on Prozac for almost two months and have seen my ectopic beats (PVCs) reduce. At my worst, I had maybe 6 a day. Now I'm down to one every couple of days. Anxiety makes them worse so the meds help the anxiety etc.. However, when I started the Prozac, I had them every day for the first week. If you go on SSRI meds, give them time to work.

t doing a good enough job, so they added Wellbutrin, still with the Ativan. The Ativan stopped working, so they replaced that with Klonopin. And added Guanfacine for nightmares. I got fed up and recently switched psychiatrists. Anyway, Celexa is supposed to be a good choice for people with prominent anxiety along with depression (also, it has very few side effects-- probably the best of the SSRI's as far as that goes), so I'd give it a chance.

I decided to get some help with my anxiety. I had an unknown illness during the winter. This illness caused me to have an elevated heart rate, very high blood pressure, and chest pain/pressure almost all the time for about 5 months. When it all started, I wasn't anxious, and i wasn't experiencing panic attacks.

Did they just have you abruptly stop the Prozac and prescribed the new drug? This could be why you are having problems while on Ativan. Most of us suffering with anxiety take at least two medications, an antidepressant and an anxiety medication. You can either call your doctor or talk to your pharmacist about your concerns. Pharmacists are very knowledgable and can tell you if there will be a problem as well. I hope this works for you so you can start to feel better. Take care.

I have depression and anxiety aalong with BPD and worked very hard with my doctor to find a med combo that would work for me. We finally settled on Lexapro 40 mgs. and Seroquel 300 mgs a day. I was doing great on this plan until January the first when medicaid in my state changed their formulary and will no longer pay for either of these drugs. Now I am on 60mgs of Celexa a day and my anxiety is through the roof. I cannot even function.

Hello. I am hoping someone can shed some light on this for me. I am 39 and have known I have very mild Mitral Valve Prolapse for years. It caused me NO problems whatsoever, then one day WHAM panic attacks and anxiety. Long story short, after several trips to the ER, cardiologists visits, Internal Medicine docs, psychiatrist. They all conclude Panic disorder/Anxiety. I have since learned that many times people with MVP are more prone to panic and anxiety.

If you've only been taking the Klonopin for four days, you do not have to taper.

it is okay to drink nonalcoholic beer with those two medications .it is okay to take vitamin D.you have to be careful with alcohol, especially because of the Xanax. I think you may have given me the wrong dose.

UNLESS he discussed putting you on this med for the long haul and thought this would be a good time to begin the therapy with that. Prozac is for the depression. There is no quick fix for depression. You said he also gave you Ativan. This med is for anxiety. It is very fast acting and you should be feeling some relief from your anxiety state by now, even if he started you on the lowest dose. I am going to presume that you will be seeing him after the week-end?

The Ativan is a good choice for prn (as needed) use while you are adjusting to the Prozac. Try to use ONLY when you absolutely have to. Ativan, like Xanax, should be used short term only, (<4 months) unless it is used strictly prn. If it is used prn and sparingly at that, the question of addiction/tolerance/dependance will not be an issue. This is something else you need to disuss at length with your doctor. My advice, humble though it is..........

My question is well the drowiness pass after i get used to it....I ws on Prozac last May to sept...with ativan and abilify and my new dr said it was the wrong conbimation.Every thing i read about xanax says it can also help depression.

anxiety and your doc HAS written you a script for Ativan, the pharmacist can legally tell you to go ahead and take some additional Ativan to help you through the rough patch until you can speak with your doc. By "additional" I don't mean they can tell you to take MORE than your doc has prescribed!

Hi. Everyone reacts differently to different meds. This is why we have to run the gamut of 'try this' and 'try that', and it takes such a long time to find the correct med-mix. You may just need a milder anti-anxiety med you can take as needed. Ask your doctor about Vistiril.

I then stayed on Prozac in between my children and the entire time I was pregnant with my second son. I didn't breast feed either one of them because of the meds in my body. My children are 18 and 16 and so back then there really wasn't a lot of research about these meds and pregnancy. The idea during the first pregnancy was to make it to the 3 month mark because prior to that is when the baby is forming everything.

I have severe anxiety and depression from Hyperthyroidism, and take both Prozac and Ativan (lorazepam). The combination of the two make me feel like a normal person. Sooner or later I'll be able to go off the Ativan, though (been through this before!). Good Luck to you and keep us up to date on how you're doing.

m clinically depressed and right now take about forty mg of fluxoteine (generic prozac). My psychiatrist has been trying to help me find something that might help me fall asleep, we've tried what she said was basically all of the sleeping medications, to anti anxiety/muscle relaxants, to now anti psychotics to see if those might bring me to be sleepy. Has anyone had luck with a sleep facility or anything?
