Yes, I took prozac for a while and I looked like I swallowed a wheelie bin,I put the weight on,but that all changed when the doc put me on valium to help with my anxiety.It worked well and helped me sleep with no weight gain.Prozac also cause a huge drop in sexual desire/performance.

When I was taking Prozac I didnt gain weight.Paxcel made me gain some though.

ll have to go through getting off Paxil after such a long period of use. Prozac is said to not have the weight gain problem, but if your problem is anxiety, Prozac probably won't be as good. No way of knowing, but that's generally true. Lexapro also is known for fewer side effects, but it has its effects and it might not work for you and it too can cause weight gain. The question is, do you still need the Paxil after 10 years?

I also ended up going off it I had a fluttering heart and other bad side effects, I personally think that drug should be banned. It causes stress not relieves it. Now im on paxil im just wondering will i gain weight from this drug?

I have been on both citalopram and prozac but citalopram was longterm weight gain, dry mouth and headaches and prozac major short term weight gain. Came of prozac for that reason after only a few months and wonder if it would've settled with time, or go back to the one i was on for 12 years but had some side effects including weight gain. Doc says my last option is mirtazapine but it is also an appetite stimulator.

SSRIs are notorious for weight gain, but Prozac has less of a weight gain potential (compared to say Paxil). Your weight gain may be natural - over the course of 20 years. Or it may be the result of the Prozac. But 2-3 pounds per year to gain from an SSRI is not very much. I was on Lexapro for 2-3 years and gained nearly 40 pounds in that time.

I switched from Paxil to prozac because of weight gain - been on th eprozac for one week and depression/anxiety symptoms are back in full force. I want to go back to Paxil - do I have to wait while the prozac gets out of my system, or can I start today? Do I need to taper off the prozac (20mg) if I've only been on it a week?

I know that you cant be told that it definitely wont make you gain weight. My doctor says its had the least complaints of weight gain as a side effect. As to where Zoloft has had many complaints of weight gain. Like I said before.. Zoloft put a massive amount of weight on me. My daughter also has gained 70 lbs from it and was recently swithced to something else. I figured it was just me that my daughter wouldnt be affected the way I was from it. But I was wrong.

ve heard that some people lose weight on prozac, but some people who are skinny to begin with (like me) often gain weight with prozac. I've been off it for ages but have recently gone on it again. I'm having a hard time adjusting back to it as well. From what I remember, last time it took me about a month before the side effects went away. You could try mirtazapine (Avanza) it wont affect your sex drive. I tried it, but it made me way too drowsy.

The weight will come off when you discontinue the medication - or switch to a medication that has less of a chance of causing weight gain (ie. Prozac). I'm on 10mg of Prozac and have noticed some weight gain within the past 2 months or so and my doctor has suggested I start taking Wellbutrin along with the Prozac but my biggest concern is having panic attacks. I suffer from panic disorder w/ agoraphobia and the Prozac has been helping but I'm afraid that adding on the Wellbutrin may counteract that. (I know it is considered a stimulant for a lot of people - hence the usual weight loss.

After being on Prozac 10 mg since June 09 dr had me just stop it due tpo the side effects I was having weight gain,bad dizzziness and no sex drive................should i have done a taper off it.............is it dangerous to have just stopped it?

Wellbutrin is for depression, not anxiety, and as such can be stimulating. Drugs like Effexor are for both, but all can cause weight gain. You won't know until you try. The least problematic are probably Prozac, and then Lexapro, but even Lexapro has been known to cause significant weight gain and Prozac isn't usually that great for anxiety, but who knows? They're weird, these drugs, and affect everyone differently.

I was on prozac a long time and it did not cause weight gain. It's been so long that I don't remember it making me depressed at first but I believe I was feeling some positive effects within a week or two. If you are not feeling any better in a couple of weeks, I would definitely discuss with my p-doc; perhaps prozac is not the med for you.

Why the weight gain on these anit d's is it because you are so relaxed? Does Prozac have the same effect? I know 3 people on Prozac and they are skinny......I don't want to gain weight.

Effexor, Prozac, Lexapro, etc. Often the gain was not instant, like with the older generation of meds. Took a year for one to put 50 lbs on me in a few months. I also have been on Wellbutrin. It didn't help with depression, and increased anxiety to point where I had painful muscle spasms. At 74, and after anal cancer treatment, the really awful side effect is non stop diarrhea, which almost landed me in the hospital in one case.

What I would like to know is there another antidepressant that does not make u gain weight? I tryed prozac forget that my heart raced so bad i almose died.

I jsut started taking prozac, and i was wondering if it causes weight gain ?
