Prozac vs zoloft for ocd

Common Questions and Answers about Prozac vs zoloft for ocd

prozac

Avatar f tn I take Prozac for OCD. I have had OCD for many years but just started taking Prozac in October. I have gradually noticed a difference and usually for the better but still have times when I seem like I'm slipping back again. I have also noticed that I have times elevated mood, which is great....lol....but it's almost too elevated....lol. Anyway hope that you find the medication thats right for you. Oh.by the way I take 30mg a day.
Avatar f tn I use Zoloft and find it helps me tremendiously. I use to take Prozac, I've been dealing with OCD/GAD for 23 years. But it was time for something different, that happens. The side effect do go away in time, and I think its worth going through a little to get so much better. Some time doctors may have to try a couple different things to get the right thing for you so don't get discouraged. I did take Effexor one time and it did not help me out at all.
Avatar n tn and saying I was just about to comment on the very old thread, I am about to start generic Zoloft and am here looking for exerience with Zoloft. Maybe the original post will give me some useful on Zoloft.
Avatar f tn t think that it is prescribed as much for OCD as the SSRIs but it does seem to work for me. I have not gained a bunch of weight and it doesn't kill a person's sex drive like the others do. Maybe worth a discussion with your prescribing doctor.
1665434 tn?1365238898 psychiatric meds take time to work it is not like taking something for a headache and it goes away with pills it is hit & miss ask your doctor for something else to take, i take vistaril, zoloft and trazadone for anxiety & depression :)
Avatar f tn I posted this in the Anxiety forum, but hoped I'd get some help from here. I have been on Zoloft for years (on and off). I had to go back on it in January after a 6 month break. My anxiety got so bad I was having severe panic attacks. This time when I went on the Zoloft it had the opposite effect....it was more stimulating that calming for me and I'm not sure why. Neither is my doctor. I also have OCD and it increased my OCD by 10x almost immediately.
869686 tn?1241110241 The reason for both Prozac and Zoloft is I am transitioning off of Prozac to Zoloft. I am very sensitive to med changes so we must go slow. I feel great today and I am keeping my mood tracker. The doctor says I am pushing myself too hard right now and that I need to give myself time to heal and get things setteled. I am like that. I wan't results right away and I don't' like waiting for things to work.
Avatar n tn with meds it's always trial& error i take zoloft 50mg/day for anxiety and depression i took prozac in '94 and it was not for me people respond differently to meds what might work for me might not work for you.
Avatar n tn My eldest son, 25, has OCD-O. At 17 he became very depressed (OCD not diagnosed as yet) so went on prozac. Since then, because of various side-effects (bladder/sexual), his psychiatrist switched him to zoloft, then paxil, effexor, back to zoloft, then prozac, all the while trying to get rid of the side-effects. They helped his depression, but not his obsessive thoughts. He tried 'cognitive behavioral therapy', which helped immensely. Yoga & meditation also help.
Avatar f tn I started Zoloft in July for a new diagnosis panic attacks and ocd. My primary care doctor prescribed it until I could get an appointment with a psychiatrist. After seeing th psychiatrist he switched me to Prozac. I went from Prozac 10 mg to 15mg with no issues. When he increased my dose to 20 mg I began to experience frequent urge to urinated and burning in my pelvic area. My primary care checked me for UTI and yeast infection.
Avatar f tn I was taking Prozac and it worked really well on my OCD and anxiety. I gained 30 lbs from taking Prozac, and I noticed I was always so tired. My Dr switched me to Wellbutrin. I'm on 100 mg and I take two a day, plus one Prozac. I'm on my 3rd week now. I felt pretty good on the 3rd and 4th day. I noticed I'm able to wake up early in the morning and that I had more energy. I even lost 5 lbs so far. But last week I noticed my OCD was coming back.
Avatar n tn ve tried several medications for anxiety and panic attacks, but have had major side effects from them all. Zoloft, Celexa, etc. My doctor recently prescribed Prozac for my anxiety and panic attacks. In reading about Prozac, it does list anxiety and panic, but they are down the list a ways. Does anyone know if Prozac is a good choice for this? I don't want to take them if they aren't going to do anything. I don't have OCD, which seems to be the main disorder Prozac is prescribed for.
Avatar m tn I say its up to you, depends on what you want to try to control or minimise the OCD? Ive tried CBT honestly it didnt control the OCD it alleviated it for some time, however I find that meds and self control work best for me. There are safe meds to take for OCD while pregnant such as Zoloft or the one I take Ciprimil. Zoloft however is known to have a risk of respiratory disfunction in newborns so its recommended when giving birth they hospital takes close watch of baby.
Avatar f tn Try Zoloft for OCD it's been a lifesaver for me the differance is night and day. I had OCD so bad I would clean my small apartment 2-3x a day for hours and hours I stopped eating, sleeping and working to futill the need to clean but it was never ending until I went on the Zoloft Good Luck hope it helps!
796506 tn?1370188305 Dh and I have been trying to get pregnant for 16 months and this last month I was on the koladapins from prozac for the last month because I haven't been ovulating so they knew it was safe to take a class d. I started to lose the ability for prozac to do me any good. Does anyone know of any good meds they can recommend for me that would be safe for me to take while TTCing?
Avatar f tn Also has anyone tried Luvox for OCD? I've been on Prozac and Zoloft and still mAnage to not be able to control scary thought. After I had my daughter they got real bad too.
286686 tn?1416012340 Also, I wonder if maybe one of the older more established medications may work for him such as Prozac. That worked well for me but so does Wellbutrin which I currently take. Also, you didn't mention how bad his OCD is. Did they ever suggest taking a benzo such as klonopin as well? As far as therapy goes, I am happy to see that you are switching. He definitely needs to learn cognitive behavioral therapy.
225237 tn?1333138999 I have been given two different prescriptions an I'd like to see which one you would recommend... Prozac or zoloft??!! I have anxiety an I think it's to the point of trying meds.
Avatar f tn t work, Wellbutrin made me shake so much I could hardly put my make-up on, cymbalta made my anxiety go through the roof, prozac made me too hyper and anxious, paxil worked then stopped, Anafranil was for my OCD but didn't work, even when I tried it intervenously. I also had combonations of these pills. I KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN. All I can say is THANK GOD FOR LUVOX...its the only drug that has helped my ocd...
Avatar n tn You mean for a total of 600 Mg of Zoloft, 450 Mg Effexor and 900 Mg of Gabapentin each day? If so you better talk to your doctor about this dosing. 250 mg of Zoloft (per day) is about the Max and 350 Mg of Effexor per day is about max also. Not sure on the other drug. Either way those dosages sound high to me.
Avatar n tn m not sure what the highest dose of Anafranil is but there are many other medications for OCD (many in the same category as Anafranil which are SSRI anti-depressents such as Prozac, Zoloft, Paxil, etc. that are also used for OCD) so you might want to speak to your psychiatrist about potentially changing you to another medication if Anafranil doesn't work anymore.
Avatar f tn Im currently taking 100mg of zoloft for the past 3 weeks, started at 50 mg first week. I weigh115lbs. Ive read the following "correct dosages vary from drug to drug, based on your weight and severity of symptoms". Does anyone know this info for Zoloft? Im thinking about increasing the dose because im not feeling any difference yet? Comments are much appreciated..
459689 tn?1276570143 I do have one concern, Zoloft is supposedly better for anxiety than Prozac, and I have even heard that Prozac can make anxiety worse. I am confused and dont want to become addicted to having to have a sleep aid, but I start back at my evil (did not used to feel that way) corporation this Monday. I just want to sleep and not stink and not yell at my wife and be sooo agitiated, is that so wrong? I would appreciaite any feedback from the community. This forum has been a life saver for me.
Avatar f tn I stayed on it for 10 years. After gaining 40 lbs my dr suggested I go to zoloft. It worked for 2 years. Then it stopped. I was switched to lexipro. Worked fine for 1 year and got the symptoms back upping to 20 mgs did nothing. Now back on zoloft for 6 weeks 200 mgs I am starting to feel better. My question is a friend told me recently that years ago I should not have switched to paxil and went to zoloft and perhaps I would not have encountered some of these relapses.
Avatar m tn I really, really thoroughly recommend seeing a therapist and perhaps your psychiatrist (assuming that's who prescribed you the klonopin and zoloft). for one, maybe the zoloft isn't the right medication for your OCD! you may need to try another medication for OCD. i believe some others are prozac and lexapro. secondly, i am in therapy for a VERY similar situation as you. i also have a very intense fear of HIV.
937868 tn?1570328281 That doctor put me in Prozac but now the insurance don't want to cover for this medication and I would like to know if you have o any other mess that works for OCD. I feel like I'm lost Inside my own mind and life, very tired !
Avatar n tn That sounds like very good solution. You might ask your doctor for Prozac since that is the only antidepressant that does not cause weight gain.
937868 tn?1570328281 That's a very quick taper, and that may be your problem -- you may not have given yourself a proper taper for who you are.
1540869 tn?1351214013 PROZAC A BETTER MEDICATION FOR ANXIETY THAN ZOLOFT?!?! AND WHAT MEDICATION WORKS GOOD WITH OCD AND ANXIETY?!?<3 I KNOW EVERY MEDICATION WORKS DIFFERENT WITH EVERYONE BUT I REALLY NEED SAY ON THIS ! I'M WANTING TO SWITCH !
