Prozac vs lexapro drug

Common Questions and Answers about Prozac vs lexapro drug

prozac

Avatar m tn re committed to taking an ssri, why not see if it works rather than arbitrarily adding a benzo? If one drug will work, why take two? Prozac is known to be a more stimulating anti-depressant, but it's the easiest of the ssris to be on and come off of for most people, so it's a good place to start, but your reaction will be your own and won't necessarily match what any of us experienced, as we all metabolize these meds somewhat differently.
415867 tn?1323365503 Newer antidepressants don’t have the same side effect. While Paxil and Zoloft do cause some weight gain, other SSRIs, like Prozac, Celexa and Lexapro, don’t. For Paxil and Zoloft, the weight gain can add up to five to 40 pounds a year. Some people do experience weight gain with Lexapro or Celexa, but most don’t. In this case, it is not a surprise to have idiosyncratic responses, since the chemical structure of all the SSRIs is so similar.
Avatar f tn I started 5 mg of Prozac 10 days ago for anxiety. Lexapro always did well for me except that I would gain weight (a lot) and feel like a zombie even at 5 mg. No other noticeable side effects. So the doctor switched me to Prozac and these first 10 days have been h*ll. I am anxious and weepy and have more anger in me. My sleep is messed up (waking up in the middle of the night for an hour or two then falling back asleep). I feel very jittery and on edge all the time.
Avatar f tn I hope they come up with a good solution for you. It's so frustrating trying to find the right one. Fortunately, when I first had anxiety, I only had a few months of "hell" to go through before finding Lexapro. Now I'm going on a year and I feel like it's a battle that will never end. Are you taking anything now? Wellbutrin is a drug that can be used by itself, or supplemented with another SSRI. The only drug I've had any luck with for anxiety is Lexapro.
Avatar f tn I have had good experiences with SSRIs like Lexapro. In my opinion, one must weigh the benefits vs. the costs of taking it. If it improves your life and the side effects are tolerable then in my mind, I would take it, but not everyone does and we all react to them differently. How did you do on Lexapro? (Prozac is also an SSRI like Prozac). If your doctor thinks that your life is affected enough from your anxiety and depression to prescribe it to you, then why not see if it works for you?
Avatar m tn My daughter is transitioning from lexapro to prozac. She suffers from clinical depression...diagnosed over 1.5 years ago. She seems worse than ever and will barely get out of bed, listless comes to mind. Is this to be expected?
Avatar m tn Ok so I first saw a p doc for the first time for long term anxiety issues and panic attacks and was prescribed lexapro that lasted a week before I couldn't take it any longer. Called the doc and now I'm on Prozac not nearly as bad as the lexapro. So 2 weeks later anxiety is still worse than before I started on anything else. I'm not depressed but I've been have very frequent suicidal thoughts especially while having panic attacks. So now I want to stop the Prozac too.
Avatar m tn it was said 5-years ago i had depression and panic attacks, ive been on paxil, effexxor, lexapro, cymbalta, triptolines, all of the new ones and some old, now ive been switched to prozac 20mg. can anyone tell me anything good about prozac?
Avatar m tn You think Prozac may be better for that.? I don´t want to leave at all lexapro. It is excellent for me, but I can´t accept my weight. I also tried with little doses of bupropion but it makes me very irritated.
Avatar n tn My psychiatrist has just added Zyprexa to take with Prozac as the Prozac is not working like it used to work.I'm worried about the weight gain with Zyprexa, is there something else that could be used with the Prozac instead? Also until now I've also been taking 1 mg. Ativan in the morning and 1 mg Ativan before bed. Is it safe to use Ativan with the Zyprexa?
Avatar f tn nursegirl, advice needs your advice! =) I was able to get into my doctor today. He said his next pick would be Lexapro or Viibryd. I chose Lexapro since Viibryd is a new drug and I was unsure about it. My concern is insurance doesn't cover Lexapro. I hope they are able to make it go through. He also gave me a script for Valium. I was shocked he didn't give Ativan or Klonopin or something along those lines. Is Valium good?
Avatar n tn Sounds to me like you are choosing meds for the wrong reasons. You wanted to try Pristiq because you saw it being Rx'ed a lot where you work? I'm SURE you can understand how that would not be a good reason. If you were taking an AD for anxiety (the Prozac), Pristiq would have actually not been the best choicem as it can be quite activating. I'm sure you're not having a psychotic break...sounds more like it is affecting your memory and increasing anxiety.
1348686 tn?1310654243 So the dr prescribed me prozac for my anxiety after we found out I am allergic to lexapro. Can anyone tell me if they have had any luck with prozac. I am disappointed about the lexapro because even though I was only on it for 3 weeks it was really helping me. I just hate starting new meds....
Avatar m tn By the way, Celexa often has different and more side effects than Lexapro, even though they are almost the same drug. So either learn to deal, or try a different ssri.
Avatar n tn t like the side effects)...I was a little hesitant to try Wellbutrin since I had success with Prozac in the past, which works on Serotonin (like Zoloft) and Wellbutrin works on Dopamine (a completely different drug)...well I have to say, after 3 tough weeks of severe nausea, lightheadedness, dizziness, headaches, and dry mouth, I had to stop Wellbutrin and will be going back to prozac.
Avatar f tn The drug left your body the next day. All ssris other than Prozac leave the body pretty quickly. Any left is too little to do anything. That's first. Second, these drugs don't start to work for most people until 4-6 weeks, but side effects start right away. If you were having panic attacks before taking Lexapro, you shouldn't have expected it to work so soon.
Avatar n tn She thinks this will help with the withdrawals. I am afraid to try Prozac. I have read so much about Lexapro withdrawal. Some say that the symptoms could last over a year. I think you need to contact your doctor and see what he/she says. Good luck and remember you have company through this awful process.
Avatar f tn I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for a good anxiety drug other than Paxil, Effexor or Lexapro. I was on Paxil for years and it worked well for me but my doctor switched me to Lexapro which made me extremely sick as did Effexor. Anyway, now I am about to go back on Paxil because it was the only drug that really worked for me and didn't make me sick but I have one problem.
Avatar n tn I have been dealing with anxiety for a few years now. I am a 18 year old male. I have anxiety attacks at work and can't think or concentrate. I feel very awkard, uncomfortable, and just plain weird sometimes. I have a friend that is taking Celexa and he said the side effects were a nightmare for 3 weeks but then he got better. I took 5mg of a Celexa and felt horribly weird. I know it has the s enhibitors and the r. The lexapro I want to take has a lot of the r enhibitors.
Avatar m tn lexapro or sam-e, somebody please give some advice. Lexapro scares me and sam-e who knows what. I am taking clonazepam for gad, doc wants wean me off with lexapro. All drugs scare me but going through tough time.
1423878 tn?1282883632 The doc started me on prozac and xanex untill I reach a theaputic level with the prozac.
Avatar n tn My Dr suggested to taper off paxil and go onto Prozac that this drug is weight nuetral- Has anyone done this and what is thier suggestion to me?
Avatar f tn Increased sweating is a common side effect of Prozac (Fluoxetine is the generic for Prozac so it is the exact same thing). For most patients the sweating settles down after a month or two after start of therapy...but not for all. Some patients that struggle with the sweating issue with take their Prozac at bedtime to try to minimize this side effect, but even that doesn't always work. Keep in mind that there are other anti-anxiety/depression choices out there if you are willing to try.
Avatar m tn Hi: I have general anxiety with a tendency towards social anxiety. I used to have panic attacks but haven't had one in a couple years. I also suffer with depression. What drug has helped you? I am now taking Klonopin for the anxiety and Prozac for depression. I would like to cut the Klonopin or at least cut down (now taking 1 mg/day). The Prozac isn't helping my depression at all and I have given it months to work.
Avatar m tn Hey all! I've been battling anxiety and panic attacks (mainly pertaining to my health - health anxiety) for about 17 years & took Lexapro for about 15 of them. It helped me a lot until I started researching them. I stopped taking the Lexapro just about 3 years ago because of things I've read and my daily headaches (which continued after stopping the drug). I have been trying to handle it on my own and change my lifestyle to be as healthy as possible.
