Prozac vs fluoxetine

Common Questions and Answers about Prozac vs fluoxetine

prozac

Avatar f tn Increased sweating is a common side effect of Prozac (Fluoxetine is the generic for Prozac so it is the exact same thing). For most patients the sweating settles down after a month or two after start of therapy...but not for all. Some patients that struggle with the sweating issue with take their Prozac at bedtime to try to minimize this side effect, but even that doesn't always work. Keep in mind that there are other anti-anxiety/depression choices out there if you are willing to try.
Avatar m tn Chemically, the fluoxetine hydrochloride (prozac is the original trademarked term but the patent's expired so it can be made generically) ought to be identical, regardless of its makers' labelling, colouring, packaging (as a tablet or capsule). Prozac has been generic for a very long time, there are several companies now making generic versions. Precisely which were your before and after brands of generic prozac (fluoxetine hydrochloride)?

Avatar f tn Of all the SSRI antidepressants, Prozac (fluoxetine) is the easiest to get off of post-tx. Take it.
Avatar f tn I've had depression for some time and was prescribed fluoxetine a few months ago. In the second and third week of taking it I experienced what I can only describe as mild euphoria and a sort of agitation- not being able to sleep, restlessness and the shakes- which was not unpleasant because of the euphoric feeling that accompanied it.
Avatar m tn These drugs tend to cause less sedation and have different side effects to older antidepressants. Fluoxetine or Prozac elevates mood, increases physical activity and restores interest in everyday pursuits. Prozac is used to treat depression , to reduce binge eating and purging activity ( bulimia nervosa) and to treat obsessive-compulsive disorder. Fluoxetine is broken down slowly and remains in the body for several weeks after treatment is stopped.
Avatar f tn That most likely explains your symptoms more so than the Prozac. Often, at the tail end of a taper down, Prozac will be used to help when withdrawal is bad because it's considered easier to stop taking, but that's only at the very end of the taper. So you're probably suffering from Zoloft withdrawal because your doc took you off it abruptly instead of tapering.
Avatar f tn I replied to someone's question about this, but I think it's an important observation to share. Recently, there's been many published articles linking antidepressants with antibiotic-resistance, especially Prozac (Fluoxetine). Not sure if there's a connection between other medications, but I was on Prozac a couple years ago. After I stopped using it, my PATM reactions began. Could this be one of the causes?
Avatar f tn The data set forth in this study indicate that infants who are breastfed by mothers who take fluoxetine [Prozac] track a growth curve significantly below that of infants breastfed without the medication." Previously, a study published in the New England Journal of Medicine (1996) found that the birth weight of babies exposed to Prozac during pregnancy was less than those not exposed to Prozac during pregnancy.
Avatar n tn Ive been to the doctors and they put me on Fluoxetine tablets. One a day until they tell me to stop. However I've had two so far but want to stop. I know you have to slowly come off of them but if I've only had two can I just stop? Please help!

1063764 tn?1272821064 be an interaction between melatonin and Prozac (fluoxetine). Some evidence comes from animal studies, but how these relate to humans is still unresolved (as far as I know; I been out of the loop for a couple years. In animal studies, melatonin does decrease levels of fluoxetine, but the significance of this is in question. A molecule related to fluoxetine, fluvoxamine (Luvox) naturally increases blood levels of melatonin.
Avatar n tn Are you talking about Prozac? fluoxetine? This medication should be weaned off of. You can experience increased moodiness and anxiety with abrupt withdrawal. What symptoms are you experiencing? Let us know if we can help?
Avatar m tn i called y dr several times to let them know and she switched me to prisqu (some sis to prozac) b/c she thought it might be b/c prozac...after getting worse and ER trip and worse docs kept blowing me off as i was just exasterbating my symtoms of side effects....i finally goggled my meds on drug interactions and all these were MAJOR drug interactions causing something called serotonin syndrome or serotonin toxity...this can be fatal and i felt like i was going to die...
543959 tn?1301315419 we just started the lexapro slowly as i slowly decreased the fluoxetine. fluoxetine stays in your body for several weeks, so withdrawal effects are less likely (and/or less severe) than with other SSRIs. i would speak to your dr. about a slow transition from one med to the other... or give the buspirone a try. buspirone is supposed to be similar to valium in terms of it's anti-anxiety properties. so if you are having trouble with anxiety or panic, this might be a good combination for you.
Avatar f tn t popular, but start the Prozac a few days before going off the effexor completely. Or added Clonidine with the Prozac.
