prozac versus zoloft

Hi there, I am wondering which antidepressants are safe to take while still breastfeeding? My baby is 6 months old. The doctor prescribed Prozac, is this safe. The reason I won't take Eglonyl or Zoloft is because it is most likely to cause weight gain and I am already overweight and unhappy about it.

Hi I just had a question regarding anxiety meds I'm currently prescribed .5 xanax xr twice a day and 25mg zoloft. I tend not to be tolerant of ssris, but I'm trying to stick with this one so I don't end up on xanax forever and the stigma associated with it. Well taking my meds as prescribed add I've been doing for months I had a strange episode last night.

Well both Prozac and Zoloft take weeks to kick in fully. What was your side effect on Prozac?

Also, you did not have any sexual side effects with Prozac? I was given Zoloft to treat anxiety and depression. My energy level is so bad that I am having trouble getting out of my apartment. Will the prozac boost my energy level? Looking forward to your reply.

I stopped Zoloft and went back on prozac. I stopped the prozac after a couple traumatic events with increased panic. For some reason i thought the prozac no longer worked. i doubt the zoloft would have either. The sexual side effects will happen with any ssri, but prozac was much more suttle and only lasted a few days. the zoloft was far worse, my desire was greatly diminished and..well you know the rest. I was told early on that if an ssri is correct you will feel nothing...

assured my several times that Zoloft has NOT cause my Thyroid to act up. I was on Zoloft for 4 years. I recently decided (with my Dr.) to go off because of sexual side effects. After being weaned off slowly for 4 weeks, my hair started coming out. TONS. I was then tested and told I was Hypo. ( I have been tired for years, so it might not be the Zoloft causing this issue with my Thyroid.) Anyway, I read 'somewhere' that Zoloft has been know to cause thyroid issues?

I do not know if to ask to change it to zoloft or keep prozac. I do not want prozac to create me a panic attack since has been only one in my life. any suggestions?

m experiencing on Prozac will fade with time. My doctor switched me from Zoloft to Prozac. I have taken Zoloft in the past but this time it was not working for me so after a couple of months we agreed to try Prozac. This is my 12th day on Prozac and my anxiety is at an all time low. The first few days on Prozac I started to feel better (could have been placebo effect.). Now for the past week its starting to make me depressed because I feel like this is never going to get better.

I am taking zoloft in pregnancy right now and no problems so far and I know many many many women on here and not on here who are taking zoloft or have taking zoloft during pregnancy.

Ive had great success with antidepressants...in the past I have been on Zoloft, Prozac, Lexapro, with Zoloft and Lexapro being the most effective for me. if the Prozac doesn't work for you (after giving it ample time, even possibly trying a higher dose), then,in my opinion, I would ask about Zoloft. It's one of the first line meds for treatment of panic attacks/panic disorder. Also, you can arm yourself with as much info as you can...

The reason for both Prozac and Zoloft is I am transitioning off of Prozac to Zoloft. I am very sensitive to med changes so we must go slow. I feel great today and I am keeping my mood tracker. The doctor says I am pushing myself too hard right now and that I need to give myself time to heal and get things setteled. I am like that. I wan't results right away and I don't' like waiting for things to work.

i was on wellbutrin and prozac for 2 months and cut them cold turkey to take another antidepressant zoloft. it's been 4 days and still no symtomps.

After seeing th psychiatrist he switched me to Prozac. I went from Prozac 10 mg to 15mg with no issues. When he increased my dose to 20 mg I began to experience frequent urge to urinated and burning in my pelvic area. My primary care checked me for UTI and yeast infection. I did have glucose in my urine and a yeast infection for which I was treated with Diflucan and Metronizal gel.I was treated for vaginosis. I am not sexually active.

I switched to prozac which over time made my anxiety worse.. I went off prozac in March 2010 and my anxiety came back hard! I lost a lot of weight and couldn't eat :( I started Celexa 3 weeks ago @2.5mg. I know that is a low dose, but I am very med sensitive.. I have noticed a 50% reduction in my panic episodes, Unfortunately, I still have abdominal cramping, morning anxiety and little to no appetite. I am taking Klonopin (.25 2x a day) which helps somewhat but leaves me feeling sleepy.

Now she wants me to give Prozac a try, but she said I needed to completely stop Zoloft before taking the Prozac. Is this going to be safe or will the Prozac kick in, in place of the Zoloft because they are both SSRIS?

I started Zoloft around Febuary of this year, after stopping Prozac due to my inability to handle its side effects. Zoloft worked amazingly for about 5-6 months, and now in early October I'm finding that my depression, anxiety, and apathy are all returning. I'm continuing to take my Zoloft, which is at 50mg a day, but I'm going through unable to enjoy ANYTHING. could Zoloft not be working anymore? I don't know what to do. I just want something that works for as long as I take it.

ve tried several medications for anxiety and panic attacks, but have had major side effects from them all. Zoloft, Celexa, etc. My doctor recently prescribed Prozac for my anxiety and panic attacks. In reading about Prozac, it does list anxiety and panic, but they are down the list a ways. Does anyone know if Prozac is a good choice for this? I don't want to take them if they aren't going to do anything. I don't have OCD, which seems to be the main disorder Prozac is prescribed for.

I was on Zoloft for 8 years for anxiety and got off for 10 months for the birth of my daughter. I then went back on for anxiety and did fabulous for 9 more years. I started to get a little more anxiety and decided to increase the dosage, but it only made me more agitated. So, I've since tried Lexapro to no avail and Prozac was way too stimulating causing agitation again. It's been 4.5 months since I've weaned off Zoloft (been on Lexapro for 5 months, Prozac for 7 weeks).

I am still on the Clonazapam. .25 in the morning .25 in the afternoon & .50 at bedtime. I'm struggling now with diarreah and havent' taken any of the ZOLOFT yet. It's now been 3 days since I got off the .20mg of Prozac. I'm not sure why they had me start so high. I ask if I could just lower the dose but the switched me to the Zoloft. I was feeling fine & even better until that 8th day then everything went out of control. Chills, shakes...

I need everyone's opinions on Prozac and Zoloft. My doctor said said Prozac could give me seizures...scared the s*** out of me!! Please let me know if you have taken either of these?

Prozac is a more stimulating antidepressant than Zoloft, as such it tends to not be as effective as Zoloft and other ssris for anxiety generally, but you may respond differently. If it works, it's a good one to be on, as it's the easiest to stop taking as it lasts a lot longer in the body and therefore gives the body time to adjust if you stop taking it. But nobody can tell you if you'll gain weight on it -- everyone is different, so only trying it will tell you that. Good luck.

My question is, does Prozac have low side effects like Zoloft but does it work better? And should I be taking a SSRI or SNRI for depression and anxiety, what works better with less side effects?

Just recently I was put on Prozac from 125mg of zoloft. I am now taking 20mg of prozac and 2mg of Klonopin at night. I feel lightheaded and dizzy, I always have a headache and half the time feel depersonalization. I hate it! My psych this morning told me it's not the meds, he says that I am just anxiuos and making myself think it's the meds. He also said I could come off of anti- depressants all together if I want to.

What you're now on is Prozac. Two problems potentially here. First, you can't just quit Zoloft -- you need to taper off it as most people get some withdrawal from quitting these meds. That most likely explains your symptoms more so than the Prozac. Often, at the tail end of a taper down, Prozac will be used to help when withdrawal is bad because it's considered easier to stop taking, but that's only at the very end of the taper.
