Common Questions and Answers about Prozac usage

prozac

Avatar m tn Hey, I have been taking the generic fluoxetine hydrochloride 10 mgs tablets for about 1.5 years now. My pharmacy recently changed manufacturers and the tablets are now blue... I do NOT tolerate these tablets as well and have also tried the 10mg capsules with the same effects (less effective more side effects- nausea, dizziness, fat face, racing thoughts, decreased libido, nightmares, sleep disturbances, etc.).. I have called several pharmacies but they all have the blue tablets too -_-...
Avatar n tn My 9 year old daughter was just prescribed Prozac. I am reluctant to start giving her this medication, as I haven't been able to find any long-term studies about it; are their any adults who took it as a child and had long-term negative or positive effects? Does it slow growth in children? Are their negative effects on school performance? I would really appreciate a doctor's opinion, or any other person who has had a child who has taken Prozac. Thanks so much.

822153 tn?1333062995 In your case you also need to look at how long you have been taking Prozac (fluxotine) because after many years of usage Prozac can lose it effectivness as the result of resistance built up by your body. Most people only get a good 2 to 4 years from SSRI's such as Prozac before they fade in effectivness.
Avatar f tn Now I have been put on Prozac also. He said the 2 tighter, The Xanax is 0.5mg 4 times a day. The Prozac is 20mg. 1 time a day. Also this is coming form 2 different Dr. And both of them know all of the other meds, I am on. And it is a lot!!! TO THE DR,S ONLY PLEASE ! My question is this save?
Avatar f tn I have tried Paxil, Prozac, Effexor, and Wellbutrin. Effexor has the WORST withdrawals by far. at least out of the ones I have taken. I have not tried Lexapro because it is a bit expensive (or so my Dr told me). So I guess it depends on your definition of addictive. But, in all honesty, if it works for you, and improves your quality of life, addiction would be the last of my worries!!
Avatar f tn SHOULD I STOP THE PROZAC, I JUST STARED, BUT I NEED THE PROZAC VERY BADLY. WILL THE PROZAC HARM MY PREGNANCY OR MY BABY. WOULD I BE SAFE TAKING IT? I AM VERY CONFUSED, I NEED ADVICE, PLEASE.
Avatar n tn I have been off of lorcet 2 1/2 weeks now after 2 years of usage at about 3 10/350 a day. To some, I know that is not alot but the effects are still there. What I did not really expect was the emotional piece of it. I am on medication for depression and always have been dues to pmdd. Although I am feeling great physically, the emotional piece is not "normal" yet. I am wondering if this is normal and how the heck long does it take to get back to "normal".
Avatar f tn I tried prozac in feb. at the time I was really sick with hot flashes, night sweats, chills nausea etc. This lasted for weeks. They did bloodwork and found my prolactin level to be very high. I was also taking reglan for my gastroparesis by very infrequently. they thought I had a pituitary tumor...after brain MRI and the likes they took me off all the meds and my levels went back to normal...I was taking 10mg of prozac for a week at the time....kind of nervous to revisit.
Avatar m tn i dont know anything about the last two, but i was on prozac for years and suddenly stopped mine last year (i started getting a bad side effect after all those years on it, still dont know why i did) anyhow at first i didnt notice any problems but then i suddenly CRASHED AND BURNED!!!!! omg the depression came back tenfold!!! it was horrible. Please dont stop your meds without weaning off. How much do you take and for how long? why do you want to stop them?
Avatar n tn Well let's start for what the diagnosis is. You might think its bipolar but a psychiatrist could tell more. If you are concerned and think your son has been wrongly diagnosed and is over medicated seek a second opinion. Now let's go through the medications. First of all that's a lot of medications to begin with especially for a child and even standard psychiatry has concerns about use of antipsychotics in children due to the risk of tardive dyskinesia and diabetes.
