I have been on both citalopram and prozac but citalopram was longterm weight gain, dry mouth and headaches and prozac major short term weight gain. Came of prozac for that reason after only a few months and wonder if it would've settled with time, or go back to the one i was on for 12 years but had some side effects including weight gain. Doc says my last option is mirtazapine but it is also an appetite stimulator.

Hi, I was started on nefazadone hydrochloride years ago, worked well but was withdrawn from the market, citalopram for about 12 years, weight gain and few other side effects. stopped working. Escitalopram gave me fast hearbeat as did trazadone, Setraline fast or slow and irreg heartbeat. Never considered effexor xr/venlafaxine as i was so put off with the reviews of weight gain and the awful discontinuation symptoms. Prozac was great but major weight gain in two months.

If you are still depressed you might be stress eating or eating to relieve some of your symptoms. Weight gain or loss is a common symptom of depression. Taking more medicine could actually help you out. I typically lose my appetite when I get depressed. There's always a correction period when I start to feel better and get my appetite back.

re most likely going through some withdrawal from the Paxil. You could also be having start up side effects from the Prozac. If we do get start up side effects it can be hard to say how long they'll last. I'm not sure what advice I can give you as far as what med to take. Did the blurred vision precede the headache? That would indicate a migraine or migraine-like headache. As for the anxiety getting worse, Prozac is known to be the most stimulating ssri and because of that is the least successful one used for anxiety. The good thing about it is that it's the easiest to stop taking and doesn't usually have the weight gain and some other side effects associated with the others.

I switched from Paxil to prozac because of weight gain - been on th eprozac for one week and depression/anxiety symptoms are back in full force. I had terrible side effects for the first month (exhausted, depressed, just wanted to lie in bed all day). The only plus was that I lost my appetite. I stuck it out and once the side effects cleared I felt great - more sociable/connected to people and increased confidence (and libido!).The only down side was that my appetite came back with a vengeance I have gained around 15-20lbs since going on it and this is really starting to get me down.

They're very different ssris. Prozac stays in the body much longer, making it easier to quit and generally has fewer side effects. Paxil is a very stong ssri that also strongly affects choline receptors, can be very hard to quit, and has a lot of side effects, but can be more effective for anxiety. I'd try the prozac first, in fact I'd try all the ssris first, before I'd do Paxil.

I should have stayed with Prozac, other then the enormous weight gain i had no sexual side effects or other problems with it. I was worried about my health with all that weight gain BUT the Wellbutrin does not work for me as an appetite suppressant or as an stimulant, so really i'm right there with this med where i have been with Prozac, except with more anxiety and very frequent panic attacks....

Now about to go on Prozac (was on this back in 94 and it was a miracle drug for me) My doctor is going to keep me on a low dose of Remeron for about 3 weeks to help with an side effects from my body geeting use to theProzac anyone else been on both of these meds at the same time?
