Hello! I'm looking for hope that these awful side effects I'm experiencing on Prozac will fade with time. My doctor switched me from Zoloft to Prozac. I have taken Zoloft in the past but this time it was not working for me so after a couple of months we agreed to try Prozac. This is my 12th day on Prozac and my anxiety is at an all time low. The first few days on Prozac I started to feel better (could have been placebo effect.).

I have switched from prozac to wellbutrin and the first week on 150mg was not that bad with side affects other then bad headaches, pressure in my head, dry mouth for the first few days ect. now its time for me to upper the dose and i'm a bit nervous just like i was the first time i took wellbutrin. my question is, will i experience side affects again or will this be a smoother ride then the first time?

Reading these posts, I agree that the dry mouth is a real big one, I HAD to have a bottle of water at all times! Brain fog... yes. Dry skin... yes, I was so lucky to have a loving husband who applied lotion along with a head to toe body massage almost every night after things started getting to the point where I was too sick to do much of anything. He was the reason I di get through the treatments!

Rinse mouth with Biotene dry mouth rinse. It works quite well.

I am ending the Zoloft because of the insomnia, agitation, stiff neck, and blurry vision and sexual side effects it seems to be causing. I do have generic klonopin for situational anxiety but have taken .05 mgs a few times just to get some sleep. I know that these effects may stop. All side effects but the insomnia seem to be lessening slightly but I am just not as calm and it does not seem to be worth it; thus my choice is final. I am starting my taper tomorrow.

I have been on both citalopram and prozac but citalopram was longterm weight gain, dry mouth and headaches and prozac major short term weight gain. I have taken Vivactil (protriptyline) in the past and it had some beneficial effects. I liked the quick energy boost; you take it when you wake up, for instance, and it helps separate "sleep-time" from "wakefulness-time" in a non habit-forming way. It also worked pretty quickly. I was in the 40-60 mg/day range. It sure was difficult to wear contact lenses with Vivactil and it dries your eyes out severely, but there's always eye drops for that.

I was given 20mg of Lovan 7 months ago, I had the 4 - 6 weeks of dry mouth, increased anxiety, insomnia and jitters but when they subsided the Fluoxetine (Lovan) worked to a certain degree. 7 weeks ago I quit smoking and after 2 weeks anxiety and depression increased again. I know Abilify like all antipsychotics can cause anti-cholinergic side effects (although less so then other antipsychotics) which include dry mouth and urinary retention. Sometimes some of the side effect pills used to treat the motor restlessness from it such as the anti-cholinergics (Cogentin, Artane, etc.) can make that worse. That might be one cause but generally its not so severe. Your psychiatrist should be able to explain what happened though.

Hi there. Is this better? Prozac does give some gi side effects. When my son started this, he had nausea and it lasted for about a week and a half and then began getting better. He chewed ginger gum, ate tums and peptobismal chews. They seemed to help him. Was trazadone new as well? I will say that unless something is really awful, giving a full trial is best in my opinion. My son actually needed the full dose of prozac of 80 mg, so prepare that they may tweak your dosage as well.

I'm not sure if the medication is directly linked, but in the past year (I have been taking the drug for about 2.5 years) I break into an all over the body sweat very easily, and it has happened even when I'm not exercising.

I did get that and I do not know if this was just the trial however I had an EKG done as well, several in fact during the course of the trial. Also, as OH said, for dry mouth Biotene has some very good products as a dry mouth is more prone to cavities, etc.
