Common Questions and Answers about Prozac side effects dosage

prozac

20632981 tn?1503687567 My question is, does Prozac have low side effects like Zoloft but does it work better? And should I be taking a SSRI or SNRI for depression and anxiety, what works better with less side effects?
2193833 tn?1339411302 The bad news is, it will probably be much more difficult for you to adjust to the Prozac this time around, you may have to endure more side effects that are bothersome. The GOOD news is, the side effects still should subside in about 2 weeks (maybe a little less). The Xanax will definitely help with the side effects as well. You may want to speak with your doctor and see if he would be okay with you taking a slightly higher dose of the Xanax while you adjust to the Prozac...just a few weeks.
2080404 tn?1643113754 Hi there. Is this better? Prozac does give some gi side effects. When my son started this, he had nausea and it lasted for about a week and a half and then began getting better. He chewed ginger gum, ate tums and peptobismal chews. They seemed to help him. Was trazadone new as well? I will say that unless something is really awful, giving a full trial is best in my opinion. My son actually needed the full dose of prozac of 80 mg, so prepare that they may tweak your dosage as well.
Avatar m tn I woke up this morning worried about side effects and felt like my heart was racing and going to beat out of my chest. I took 2 xanax (which I've been taking for years) and feel like I'm calming down, but I'm worried this racing heart is a side effect or if it's just my anxiety of taking the new medication. I want to get my life back but I think I'm afraid even this won't work. Would appreciate any advice or feedback.
Avatar n tn How long have you been taking the Prozac for? Sometimes it takes a couple of weeks to get adjusted to medication. Also my psychiatrist told me alot of people who suffer from anxiety/depression will think the medication is making them worse because the are already struggling with anxiety/depression. However, some medications just don't work for people, or cause side effects such as fatigue.
1798419 tn?1315810427 told me that Effexor may attribute to weight gain, and it DOES state this in the side effects printed from the manufacturer, so your Dr. is incorrect. Do your homework and don't trust all the Doctors, find a good one, and also consider natural health options if you possibly can. Good luck!
Avatar f tn my hormones were low so dr put me on hormone pills and thyroid pills,i haad been on wellbutrin sr about 1 year 300 mg to counteract sexual side effects from prozac,it didnt help though,so my dr changed me from 300 wellbutrin sr to 450 mg xl,tonight for the first time in ages i feel kind of dizzy..ondering if it might be to high of a change over on the wllbutrin,,hoping after prozac is out of system i will have a sex drive any info would help or has anyone switched from the sr to the xl?
Avatar f tn Nobody actually knows. We all differ in the experience of side effects. Some meds give us tons that don't give someone else any and others give us few that gives that someone else tons. One way to ease into this is to taper up on the drug, as you're doing, just as when you stop you taper down as slowly as you need to. If you're more comfortable, you can wait a bit before going higher in dosage so you'll be more used to it.
Avatar f tn Sorry you had those side effects but Prozac can take 6-8 weeks to start working fully. The first few weeks being the worst! I hope the Zoloft treats you better.
Avatar f tn Bloating can be a side effect of Prozac as it can cause intestinal swelling. The shakes may be a side effect as well. If you're 18, your hips are naturally going to become larger. Nothing to worry about. Get off the Yasmin if you can, unless you have to take it for some medical reason other than you don't want to become pregnant. In my opinion, that stuff is bad news. Avatar m tn Our bodies build up a tolerance to these types of meds and normally we need a dosage change or a completely different medication. I think they all carry the sexual side affect, but I'm not 100% sure of this, but I am sure that someone who is more knowledgeable on this will jump on and better advise you. Take care....
Avatar n tn Long story short, after 3 weeks of being on the increased dosage if I persist and wait a few more weeks will the side effects to go away, is it normal for an increase in dosage to have this affect and how long do the side effects usually last? Or should I go back to my GP and be reducing back down to 20mg until I see the psychiatrist. If it is likely these are just interim side effects I can persist for another few weeks.
Avatar m tn Merry Christmas - I'm sorry you're going through this! I don't have any experience with prozac, so I'm not sure how much help I can be. However, I can share a couple of things I've learned on my med. journey. Starting or increasing a dose on our anxiety meds can actually increase our anxiety as a side effect. This is no fun, I know. But this is usually temporary and goes away over time. GI distress can also be a common side effect.
266195 tn?1215310411 Particulary those involving the heart. I googled prozac and cardiac side effects and found all kinds including heart blockages, arrhyhtmia, heart failure and so on, is this really a possibility? I think i'd rather suffer through my attacks than worry about those side effects.
232328 tn?1207090071 how high of a strength is what they gave me? How long until I start feeling better? And are there any side effects that I should be concerned about? I also take about 30 mg's of vicodin for severe back pain and 600 mg's of Neurontin a day. Would either of these 2 clash with the Prozac?? Please help. I can't wait to start feeling like "myself" again. Thanks and I really hope that I can get some sort of response from someone today.
2010625 tn?1329372056 I have taken Prozac for about two years. The main side effects I've noticed were initial insomnia and some facial swelling. Anytime I've gone down I have had some weird dreams. I just recently went up in meds and my face is puffy so that's annoying. Other than that Prozac has been a great drug for me.
Avatar m tn I think its better to listen to your doc,if you go off it quicker it might make you feel sick mentally and psyically.
Avatar f tn You say you were on Lexapro for a long time? Is that right? How did you stop taking it, abruptly or a slow taper taking as long as you needed to (here's hoping Lexapro has a liquid, because one of the hard things about only needing such a low dose is it's hard to break pills to do a taper off). I'm asking because some of the effects you're having sound more like withdrawal effects than the usual start-up effects of Prozac.
Avatar n tn ve stayed with it the longest. My question is regarding the side effects. Occasionally I will notice an internal restless feeling -- usually lasts a few days. It's almost like I feel kind of antsy. My sleep is not disturbed -- I sleep normal as usual. I've also noticed, and have in the past, that I have some twitches. Various muscles in my body will twitch from time to time.
Avatar f tn I'm recently weaned from Prozac and am having a difficult time. Besides the emotional side effects, I've been experiencing many physical side effects; some that scare me. Last week, I swam 10 laps in the pool and then went for a run. During the run, I suddenly started feeling like I was getting shocked. Not like when you are shocked by static but more like I touched an electric fence (one that they have to keep animals in a yard).
Avatar f tn 6 weeks is more than a comfortable time period to up the Prozac. During my prime anxiety days I was taking 60mg of Prozac. Upping the dosage is something that only you and your doctor can decide on. The few days in a row being a hot mess could have been the side effects too. Hopefully those are all out of the way. I have found.. and this is just my opinion, but all the meds in the world wont make our anxiety go away. Just help us.
Avatar m tn You will have start-up side effects that will be the worst within the first few days of taking the drug. Most of these will diminish over time, depending on the drug, amount Rxed and your body chemistry. My advice to anyone is to take the smallest dosage possible, or even split that small dose in half (if possible for that drug). Then see how you feel after a couple weeks if you feel a small amount better... increase the dosage. If you feel great!...
Avatar f tn Usually there are side effects, which should diminish with time. I found Prozac did not suit me at all, but it suits lots of other people. My side effects were so bad I had to stop the 10mg dose within a few weeks. We all react differently to drugs, what suits one person, may not suit another. You have not been on Prozac long, so you may need to give it time to get into your body. If you really think the side effects are too bad, then I suggest you go back to the doctor.
Avatar m tn I do NOT tolerate these tablets as well and have also tried the 10mg capsules with the same effects (less effective more side effects- nausea, dizziness, fat face, racing thoughts, decreased libido, nightmares, sleep disturbances, etc.).. I have called several pharmacies but they all have the blue tablets too -_-... Th side effects persist even after a month on the different pill forms too.. Any options left? Or must I suck it up and take a pill that makes me sick or discontinue usage...
Avatar f tn Has anyone else taking Fluoxetine (similar to Prozac) experienced side effects? I have noticed some odd changes in the way my body responds to exercise; specifically, excessive sweating. I'm not sure if the medication is directly linked, but in the past year (I have been taking the drug for about 2.5 years) I break into an all over the body sweat very easily, and it has happened even when I'm not exercising.
Avatar m tn They're both in the same class of drugs, and pretty much treat the same symptoms. Paxil is a newer medication, and if the dosage isn't working you may need to have your doctor increase it. Prozac is an old drug and I think the newer ones come with fewer side effects. It's best to discuss this with your doctor since he is aware of what will best suit your needs.
