prozac

Avatar f tn I'm thinking of trying Zoloft for my gad/pd. No real depression, just anxiety. I've been on Effexor for about 1 month and it doesn't seem to be working. It also gives me tremors and night sweats. I was on Lexapro for many years then it pooped out. I did very well on Lexapro. My anxiety has been a daily battle for the past few months. I exercise, do yoga, go to therapy, on meds to no avail. Has anyone had success on Zoloft for severe anxiety? What about side effects?
Avatar f tn Thanks for your comments. Will give the Prozac a little while longer. What do you think of my doctors advice to switch from one drug to the other without weaning off the first one?
Avatar f tn Prozac worked great for everything else for the past 11 years. I have been on Wellbutrin for 3 days and have severe insomnia, constipation and dizziness. Will these side effects last long? Will they go away eventually?
Avatar f tn when i seen my dr he mentioned trying wellbutrin wiht the xanax to help my sex drive,,i talked to mr dr partner today and told him about my wierd walking again the dierehha and more depression since upping prozac and he said go back to 30 mg for a few days and see if things goback how they were and they may add wellbutrin..makes me a bit nervous as i read where u can have seizures on wellbutrin and its not good to drink with itmbut i drink only 1 or two beers everry other day..
Avatar n tn Our child was on Prozac for a year when she was six years old - she sufferd from severe anxiety and depression. We had major issues with the Prozac. Her doctor placed her on Effexor for two-three years with moderate success but some side effects as sweating and poor sleep issues. She now takes a very low dose of Celexa and is doing well. If it were me, I think I might choose point (3) with one of the newer SSRI's (they tend to have fewer side effects).
Avatar m tn I have had depression for the last 15 years (dysthymia and major depression, sometimes at the same time, I'm 32/F). Different people react to SSRIs in different ways. Sometimes they cause an increase in generalized anxiety. This sounds like what you are describing to me. Feeling jittery and 'on edge' all the time? I don't have a diagnosed anxiety disorder but when my psychiatrist put me on Zoloft I suddenly had a very high level of anxiety all the time.
581310 tn?1253029550 I am feeling no different with the anxiety. I am thinking I might need to get on xanax for a little while until my prozac is increased since it is really driving me crazy. Any advice would be great.
Avatar f tn I am so very sorry that you are feeling so poorly. Perhaps Prozac is not the medication for you. We all react differently to drugs. What suits one person may not suit another. For instsance Prozac made me very, very ill and I had to stop it within the first few weeks. I found another anti depressant that suited me just fine and got rid of depression, anxiety and panics. It was the beat meds I ever took.
Avatar m tn s are toxic in my body,,but my mom has been on prozac off and on for years and done really well on them. Oh,,, and avoid all alchohol when you first start taking them... the biggest concern is ssri psychosis in individuals that are sensative,, and booze will really make that obviouse by causing bizzare behavior.
569026 tn?1216982293 Taken several SSRIs in the past for anxiety. Adderall XR for ADD, Wellbutrin too. I have been seeing a therapist for about 4 months and he had me go for a psychiatry evaluation a few days ago. The two concrred that I am "complex" and could be a combination of BiPolar 2, Adult ADD and even...Borderline Personality Disorder (god I hate that name). Anyhow, one of the main symptoms we all agreed upon was the mood swings.
Avatar f tn I took prozac for about 14 wks ( from my 13th week of pregnancy on) and it helped a lot. Just talk to your doc and tell him/her how you're feeling. My doc pretty much threw it at me.
Avatar f tn Hi, I had on medication for prozac and had stopped for 2 months. Now my psychiatrist thinks that I need it back but then due to financial problems I won't can afford it. I had reacted badly when I was due to see counselor last 2 weeks ago and earlier on I had taken the prozac for more than half a year. Do I really need the medicine?
Avatar n tn Are you saying that you have to take 160Mgs a day of Prozac to get a response from it? I think starr is right, 80 is the max effective dose for prozac. That's why it kind of unusual that 160 works better for you. Either way I would talk to your doc. 160mgs a day may be beyond the safe level. If 80 a day isn't working then I think you would be better to either switch AD meds or add another medication to the Prozac to produce a better response.
Avatar f tn m 45 year old woman and there is lots of family history of mental illness on both sides. I was on prozac for 4-5 years for depression. my new physc put me on lamictal..once i went up to 200mg i felt very very spacey so i am back down to 150. about 5 weeks ago she took me off my prozac and on lithium. I started at 300mg then moved up to 600mg..at that dose i was getting very severe nausia. then last week on tues i started to cry and could not stop..
1134609 tn?1269272200 s not a whole lot of mood swings involved; just depression. I have read, that even after completely cessation of nicotine, major depression is very prevalent. So, I've been through a few ADs, but most of them were the next generation (Celexa, Lexapro, Wellbutrin, etc..) and they all increased my cycling.
Avatar m tn I have not tried the natural way. I took Prozac years ago and currently I'm on Wellbutrin. I read that turmeric is good for inflammation and so I tried it but I don't think it did me any good. Honestly I would find it hard to believe that turmeric is better than prozac at treating depression but what works for you may not work for someone else. I haven't conducted research nor read any research about it so I really am not qualified to answer your question.
Avatar n tn I have a 13 yo son diagnosed with general anxiety disorder, mild depression, and OCD. He was put on prozac 1 1/2 years ago, starting at 10 mg. It helped a little, so eventually it was increased to 20 mg. In January, it was increased to 30 mg, but it seemed like the anxiety fears were more on the upswing, and the OCD wasn't as much under control. He also had a lot of health issues going on that same year, and we believe the prozac was tangled up and at least increasing his stomach pain.
266195 tn?1215310411 s pretty common to be prescribed both an SSRI and a benzo for this disorder. I was on prozac once and have been on xanex forever (a long time with both xanex and paxil). Never noticed any interaction at all. After the prozac kicks in, be sure to taper off the xanex and don't stop it abruptly and you should be fine.
1653969 tn?1390331661 Clean off of vics for 13 days now-yahoo-went through ( and going through) pretty text book wds. I talked to my reg doc ( not one writing the RX-done with him) and doc put me on prozac for depression and xanax for anxiety. Well OMG got got blindsided with the lowest low I have ever felt. Had been outside all morning cleaning yard, playing with boys, having a great time, came into make lunch and slam! Wanted to just curl up in bed and cry.

Avatar f tn Naw, Prozac is most commonly used as an antidepressant. Actually, for younger people, it's the most commonly prescribed antidepressant, and it definitely doesn't mean you have serious problems. :) Your doc probably just thought to give it a try because it tends to have fewer side effects than other drugs. It's almost the same as any other SSRI, it just has a longer half life than most so you're eased onto and off of it (which hopefully means less side effects). Good luck!!
Avatar f tn I have read that Prozac is more for depression....but I think the Dr was going to put me on it cuz it is easier to get off of? UGH So perhaps I should try the Lexapro? Paxil is done for me, no longer works and gives me bad side effects. If I could I would get off Paxil and just take Klonopin, but I am not sure that is a good plan either.
Avatar f tn Then their drugs have got to be questionable at the very least. Prozac does not cause insomnia, but helps it. If you can deal with your depression without drugs, it is definitely worth doing, and you are fortunate to be able to do this. But your are doing all the right things, good for you! The meds do help a lot of us, unfortunately most people come to the blogs to tell of bad experiences, not the good. I've been on meds for depression for 25 years and they have helped me immensely.
Avatar n tn After a short stint in the adolescent psychiatric ward due to ongoing strange behavior (bulemia, depression, substance abuse from alcohol/adderall/ecstacy/marijuana), she was sent home and put on Prozac 10 mg for depression. However, she told me that the Clinic had told her she had a thyroid condition, that I was never told about by the doctors that saw her.
Avatar f tn I never had anxiety till I started taking Prozac, Im taking Prozac for severe depression but ever since being on it anxiety has been my major problem, I can't go a day without a panic attack or feeling sick due to anxiety, I'm throwing up from anxiety at least once a week and I'm constantly trembling and shaking and having paranoid thoughts. Prozac destroyed more than it fixed for me.
560272 tn?1311350293 I've had depression/anxiety for 10 yrs now. I've been off and on Prozac (only drug I've ever tried). I was on 10mg-20mg Prozac for the last 2 years, until 6 weeks ago. I weaned myself off. This is the reasons why: I gained 40 pounds in 2 yrs on it, and I still had a great amount of depression and anxiety. And so far, I really haven't been worse off it, about the same. But I'm tired of the battle, the daily battle. I'm totally different now then what I used to be.
Avatar f tn I am on 40 prozac and ativan as needed for depression and anxiety. Before i was on prozac i had never had a panic attack, and while i dont blame stopping prozac for the panic attacks, i know i will never be able to funtion now without it. The depression i feel i have a hold on, but the anxiety is unbearable without the prozac, and only partially controlled on it.
Avatar f tn I, myself dont totally believe that, but your dr. knows more about you than I do. You dont say if you have tried any different avenues?
