I've have been on adderall in the past and didnt notice any changes in my sex drive, but anti-depressents like SSRI's(prozac, which I also take), have been known to decrease your sex drive. You said you were getting off the prozac, a little piece of advice, I stopped taking the prozac so I could see the difference with my sex drive, and there was a drastic change.
Are you prescribed Zantac? Or, are you talking about the OTC preparation? Zantac is a very safe medication, it probably wouldn't be an issue for you to try it...run it by your doc first.
These meds can cause all kinds of GI Upset, so it could very well be the Prozac. Have you ever been diagnosed with GERD? Have you ever just tried taking a few Tums? That may work also. Tums can be very effective, and they are completely safe.
Make sure you are taking the Prozac as prescribed.
I had to stop taking the strattera because it gave me the hot flashes.I stopped Strattera in Feb of 07. In November of 2008, I tapered off Prozac. I was ok for about 9 months. Then, in August of 09, I started having anxiety issues.. Not really mental anxiety, but physical anxiety.. My insides felt like they were running on overdrive, kind of like an engine at high idle. So in October of 08, I went back on Prozac (10mg) About 1 week into treatment, I started having chest pain..
you think so,i have been on prozac since march ttrying totaper off but got scared cause going to alaska,so dr said drop back to 10 mg of prozzac well im not going down to 10 mg ffrom 40 mg in one day i was freaking from cutting back from 50 to 40,,,i will wait till after vacation..some say u dont have to taper off prozac but i have been on it since march 2 and evn my pharmasist said that would be to much off a drop for me as i freak out so much..
By the way, our child was diagnosed with depression and anxiety at the age of six. She has been on SSRI's for several years now and is doing great. Prozac does exist in liquid form so it could be "hidden" in her drink but it does take some time before a change can be seen. I just googled "major depression and children" and found thousands of hits - one on the first page said that MDD (major depressive disorder) can develop in preschool children.
And sometimes starting new medication can cause a short term increase in anxiety. I had severe tingling in my arms from anxiety and had to get a CT scan to rule out a stroke. Amazingly, as soon as I found out my brain was okay, my tingling went away within a day or so. Continuing to worry about it can cause the symptoms to continue and even become worse. I recommend speaking to your doctor and trying to calm down and see if your symptoms go away.
You already got the answer -- Prozac stays in the system longer than other ssris. That's both better and worse -- it's better because it makes it easier to stop than other ssris. It's worse because bad side effects upon starting can last longer when you stop. And don't eliminate the possibility of some withdrawal -- everyone has a different experience. When you have a lot of side effects, it means you metabolized the drug well, and that means it got to your brain quickly.
I was on Prozac for 7 years and was switched to Lexapro by my doc about 2 months ago for IBS and depression. I stopped taking it almost 3 weeks ago and am having some withdrawl issues...brain zaps (although a little better today), dizzy feelings, etc...
Has anyone successfully gone through this? How long till withdrawl issues improved?
The surgeon was amazed that I waited so long to have mine removed because of the shape it was in....just a thought for you. I hope the prozac works for you. I know all drugs take a few days to get to used to. I would try to give it at least a week before thinking of switching to another. I know I should take them but I really want to get through all of my "health fears" on my own. When I was on Zoloft the first time, I had no choice.
for some time i started getting chest pains after taking prozac/effexor in the morning. subsequently, my dr ordered a full cold turkey off of effexor. that's when things got terrible.
i was getting night terrors, night sweats, and then a full blown panic attack.
after the panic attack things weren't the same. the dysphoria never really went away, and it's been a few weeks.
He went into his grandfathers barn and threw plastic bins of collectibles all over and broke things, then took mail out of neighbors mailboxes and threw it in the water in the ditch. This is all coming from a child that was totally normal with understanding right from wrong. We don't understand what's going on!! Help!!!!

Has your son been over to Iraq or Afghanistan? Stress and anxiety are very prevelent in the services today, and if he was perscribed Prozac, I would say trust the doctors. I came back from my second deployment and was put on a different SSRI like Prozac, but I believe the most important thing is that he is seeing a therapist. This combination for me really helped me.
Prozac is sometimes used at low dosage at the end of a difficult taper off a med to get you off the old med and onto Prozac because Prozac stays in the body longer than other SSRIs and is for that reason thought to have fewer withdrawal problems. But this doesn't necessarily work and it takes 4-6 weeks before you're "on" a new drug, though side effects start right away.
I take Toprol XL, and Prozac (also 5mg). It really helped to prevent the sudden drops in blood pressure, but my blood pressure was still very low. I now use Ritalin to kind of balance that effect.
I was on Atenolol in the past as well, but not in combination with Prozac. I am curious to know how this cocktail works out for you. I wish you luck!
Has anyone gotten a puffy bloated face from Prozac? I recently went back up to 20mgs and now my face is puffy.. Is this a start up type effect that will go down or what? It's noticeable enough to make me consider going back down to 10mgs..
THE REASON HE GAVE THE PROZAC TO OFFSET THE EFFEXOR SIDE EFFECTS IS BECAUSE PROZAC HAS A MUCH LONGER HALF LIFE THAN EFFEXOR. THE SEROTONIN IN YOUR BRAIN STAYS MORE STABLE WITH THE PROZAC IN YOUR SYSTEM, AS THE DRUGS GRADUALLY COMES OFF YOU ARE ABLE TO SLOWLY WEAN OFF. I HOPE THIS HELPED, PLEASE SPEAD THE WORD TO OTHER PEOPLE TAKING EFFEXOR TO TAKE THE 10MG OF PROZAC IT ACTUALLY HELPED.

Anyway what I was saying is that Prozac is considered to be the least of the AD's likely to cause it and you say you have used it before so itisnt a bad choice as you know you can tolerate - Anti Depressants in general and SSRI's in particular can be such a loaded gun its important to stick to what works I think.
