Prozac in pregnancy

Common Questions and Answers about Prozac in pregnancy

prozac

Avatar f tn I wound in the ER twice during my pregnancy, the 2nd time they kept me and induced the pregnancy (I was already 12 days late, so it wasn't that bad). They ran as many as they could with me being pregnant. I am just worried about doing it again but I really want 2 kids. They have told me that my gallbladder probably caused most of my problems during the pregnancy but I just wonder if I will be as lucky next time around.
1540869 tn?1351214013 I was on 40mg of Prozac and was taking it through out my pregnancy with my son(when I would remember to take it) and he is a healthy 2 yr old and this pregnancy I personally decided I didn't need it anymore and just stopped taking it...my new dr has no clue I was on it. My husband thinks I need to get back on it and sometimes I wish I did just stay on it. You need to stay on it unless your dr tells you to stop.
1109996 tn?1267012897 Hello, My husband and I have been ttc to conceive for some time now. This month I was on 100mg clomid and last month 50mg, but my question is that i'm on prozac and could this be a factor of not being able to get pregnant? I've talked to my doctor about stop taking the drug but he told me not to worry about it until I get pregnant. I would appreicate any input about anti-depressants and ttc.
Avatar f tn I believe I read somewhere but dont quote me prozac and wellbutrin are ok during pregnancy as are other SSRIs, TCAs like Tofranil and pamelor are considered safe to use during pregnancy. I am sure your doctor can share better insight.

Avatar n tn Several studies have shown that women who wean off the drug in early pregnancy often have a relapse of symptoms and need to re-start the medication. Most providers would recommend using the medication at the lowest effective dose. So, now you have to interpret what I just said! If you were my patient, I would probably encourage you to re-start at a dosage of 10mg, and increase if that wasn't sufficient.
Avatar f tn Like JG above, I also took Prozac during my pregnancy. I was on Lexapro when I found out I was pregnant, and both my psych and OB agreed that Prozac was a safer alternative. I had no issues and my baby was fine. Of course there is no guarantee that a medication won't somehow affect your pregnancy or baby, but these days, a lot of women take an antidepressant during their pregnancies.
Avatar n tn it is not their fault, our medical proffession is just not getting educated very well. and prozac. how does that mix with the hormonal changes through pregnancy? you should keep that in mind if you should start to experience some unusual feelings or moods. that is alot of drugs to be taking while pregnant. you should probably knock it off. if you think you are pysically addicted, than its probably not a good idea to stop all of a sudden. tapper it down instead.
Avatar n tn No, it is not safe, especially in the first trimester. I had to stop taking them as soon as my pregnancy test was positive. When I was in the middle of my second trimester, the doctor said that there were safe antidepressants to take under the care of a psychiatrist but since I am now 32 weeks, I am doing my best to just stick it out without the meds. Good luck.
Avatar f tn thank you for your input, yes i will give the tablets a bit more time,i stopped taking my tablets when was pregnant, cause i was in and out off hospital with my pregnancy, and didnt go back on my tablets straight away, after i had my son,but now im back on them, but i remember when was on them before i got pregnant,i remember a few things i done that wouldnt do now, like my cousins wedding etc,so they must off been doing more good back then, but i dont think i have found a doctor that is very understan
Avatar f tn Idk about prosaic but my ob put me on zoloft its the safest in pregnancy and if you don't feel right your baby wont
Avatar n tn I've been on Prozac all through my first pregnancy and nursing and now am pregnant again. Still on Prozac and added Welbutrin. No issues with my daughter at all and its caused no complications this pregnancy. A healthy mama is a healthy baby!
Avatar f tn hello everybody. I am 42 years old, and i am now 1 and a half month pregnant. I was on effexor 75 mg for almost 7 months. Now that I am pregnant, my doctor stopped the effexor gradually and it is been now 5 days that I stopped completely the effexor. I have bad withdrawl symptoms. like anxiety, I cannot sleep at night, mood swings, dizziness, and i cannot sleep at night. can I switch to prozac ?.
Avatar f tn I'm 38wks on Friday and was prescribed Bupropian(Wellbutrin), an antidepressant by my OB last week. I've been told by him and by other's that this late in pregnancy it will cause 0 or little side effects in my baby. I'll be breastfeeding too. I just feel guilty almost for taking something, but I didn't know what else to do. I was at my wits end. Are any other moms in this boat? And if so did it effect your baby?
541196 tn?1293552936 However, you may have a relapse of depression if you stop taking your antidepressant during pregnancy. If you are planning a pregnancy, or if you become pregnant while taking Lexapro, do not stop taking the medication without first talking to your doctor.
Avatar f tn I checked again about the safety of Prozac in pregnancy, and I was wrong in the first post, Prozac is not safe, sorry! Did the Dr that prescribed it for you aware that you're pregnant? There are a lot of different antidepressants that are safe though! I am on Anafranil. You can check on the internet to find out about the different meds.
Avatar n tn the anxiety you feel may not be from withdrawals but from the underlying anxiety breaking through because the prozac has not yet started to work. You might ask your doctor to cover you in the interim , for a week or so, with low doses of daily klonopin...then see in about two weeks how the prozac works alone...
Avatar f tn 5 months I took klonopin sparingly and Prozac. I stayed on Prozac for my entire second pregnancy. My oldest son is fine. My younger son has ADHD but so do I as well as my husband so I don't think it came from the Prozac. Do a bit of research as far as studies go. When I had my kids, there were no studies. There wasn't even the Internet I don't think. I guess what I'm saying is you can have your sanity as well as children.
1544019 tn?1318504526 I had a FET on 2/23 and am now currently six weeks pregnant. I have so many hormones coursing through my body right now! My hcg levels are really high. Plus, my husband gives me 2ml of progesterone shot every morning and estrogen twice a week. I've been SUPER exhausted. All I want to do is sleep! And I'm emotional too. My husband wants me to go on prozac during pregnancy because, he claims, I "turn into a puddle of tears" too often.
Avatar f tn How far along are you in your pregnancy? I took Zoloft through out my whole pregnancy. How long did you give it time to work?
1926656 tn?1334970201 pregnant women cant have opinions w/out being hormonal?!?! as for yhe pregnancy part...im with ya...im stuck in the hosp with a little one at home...they had to do a rescue cerclage...and they arent telling me when i get to go home...i went through it with my first too...i would talk to your drs about coming off the meds tho...im sure you need to taper off...just take a deep breath :) dont let your bf get to you...
Avatar n tn They recommend me going on either Zolaft, Prozac or Paxil. I have heard of some issues with Paxil which they say now studies have shown its okay but I would not want to take the chance since there were issues before...however i wanted to see if anybody has been on any of these drug treatments while TTC and pregnant and have a healthy baby. I would appreciate any feedback. Thank you.
1481291 tn?1287793105 Zoloft is the safest in pregnancy Prozac has a bit more risks. I am taking zoloft in pregnancy right now and no problems so far and I know many many many women on here and not on here who are taking zoloft or have taking zoloft during pregnancy.
Avatar n tn My psychiatrist has just added Zyprexa to take with Prozac as the Prozac is not working like it used to work.I'm worried about the weight gain with Zyprexa, is there something else that could be used with the Prozac instead? Also until now I've also been taking 1 mg. Ativan in the morning and 1 mg Ativan before bed. Is it safe to use Ativan with the Zyprexa?
