prozac

Avatar m tn He is now in a psych unit and now taking clonidine and lorazepam, we hope that this combination will work for him coz, we, the family, are already suffering from his condition. Does the benefit outweighs the risk in trying prozac for an elderly patient? and does clonidine better in teating deppression?
Avatar f tn During concomitant use of these drugs, patients should be monitored for potentially excessive or prolonged CNS and respiratory depression. Ambulatory patients should be counseled to avoid hazardous activities requiring complete mental alertness and motor coordination until they know how these agents affect them, and to notify their physician if they experience excessive or prolonged CNS effects that interfere with their normal activities.
Avatar n tn THAT OF COURSE WOULD BE A TERRIBLE THING TO DO, AND I RECOGNIZED THE PAIN I WOULD CAUSE MY GROWN SONS AND MY ELDERLY MOTHER. I STARTED TAKING 160 MG. OF PROZAC A DAY AS A DESPERATE ATTEMPT TO GET RID OF THE SADNESS AND DEPRESSION. IS THAT TOO MUCH DOSAGE TO TAKE? I FEEL HAPPIER. MUCH LESS SAD MEMORIES. NO DESIRE TO SHOOT/KILL MYSELF. WILL IT KEEP WORKING? WILL I NEED HIGHER DOSAGES IF THE DEPRESSION COMES BACK.?
Avatar f tn I have been on 20mg of paxil for 10 years. I have had some changes in my life( new boyfriend and elderly mom giving me problems) recently I have started having panic attacks and feeling down again. Do I need a change or increase in my meds.
Avatar m tn Another thought- has he been eating solid foods or is he only taking in liquids? If he has only been taking in non-solid food, this could wind up causing bulk not to form in stools.
Avatar n tn Are the blood blisters in the arms and legs of some elderly a vitamin or mineral deficiency? If so, what will help? This discussion is related to blood blisters.
Avatar f tn Hi. 5'10" Gent, and brand spankin newbie to this site. i just turned 56 in April. In my journal August. 12, 2013, I recorded wgt. 247.5 lb, BP 157/101, severe depression & anxiety with heaart palpitations and mid-nightime panic attacks. Also using CPAP setting of 14cm for severe sleep apnea, and suffered almost daily migraines. Plus my triglicerides were, as my dr put it, "through the roof!
Avatar f tn It is a complete mess and I have no idea when the end is in sight. Her doctor had her on 150 a day (75mg in the morning and 75 in the evening). Two weeks ago she dropped to 75 mg in the morning for one week. Then she had me drop that to 37.5 mg per day and that lasted two days. She stopped taking it completely after only two days because she was so sick. She is still very very ill. The doctor started her on Lithium at the same time we were weening her.

Avatar f tn According to an article in the international journal Research on Aging in 2009, the elderly population in China will have tripled by 2050. Norway and China are in many ways extreme opposites when it comes to family policy. Under China's policy responsibility for the family rests entirely with families themselves. There are almost no institutions for the elderly, and few elderly people receive pensions.
Avatar n tn when I first "started drinking" I went out almost every night with my buddies, I kind of went gong-ho with the whole situation, as for the past six months it has only been maybe once a week and I never over do it, As in at the most I've had maybe 2-3 beers at any outing. I don't think that drinking is my problem because I don't "need" to drink, I feel like I want to be able to go out and have fun with my friends as i had back in the summer.
Avatar n tn I am being met with resistance and am concerned that the attending physician is completely in the dark about several studies regarding the negative effects of these particular drugs in elderly patients with dementia, or any helpful alternatives. Are there any alternatives to using antipsychotic medications in this case? I have a hard time believing he is being kept in this state for other than that it makes him less work for the staff. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Avatar f tn No, I don't think so it is the symptom of end of life. I lived with my father in law who was 94 years old when he came in. He's healthy, only with asthma. He offered help me to sweep the floor/yard. Hanging and picking up the clothes. He also concentrated on the weather make sure he picked up the clothes before it rained. He'll miss if he slept all the day long! LOL. He liked sleep (usually longer hour than us).
Avatar f tn And sometimes starting new medication can cause a short term increase in anxiety. I had severe tingling in my arms from anxiety and had to get a CT scan to rule out a stroke. Amazingly, as soon as I found out my brain was okay, my tingling went away within a day or so. Continuing to worry about it can cause the symptoms to continue and even become worse. I recommend speaking to your doctor and trying to calm down and see if your symptoms go away.
518798 tn?1295212279 After recovery, I was put in a semi-private room with an elderly lady who had EVERY member of her family there. They finally put me into a private room around 6:00. After that, everything was smooth sailing. I started getting up and moving around and was even able to eat. They had me on Dilaudid every 3-4 hours and Demerol for break-through pain. Not once was the pain really bad. I think I was expecting the worst; which is much bettr than not being prepared.
4173517 tn?1350598701 You can take cipram another SSRI weaker if you live in the states the country of prozac try prozac There is coaxil/stablon if you can get it in the USA it's a French comp which produces it it's weak and very good for anxiety. Usually when you are young you take the weakest of drugs because they play with your fresh brain. Old people don't even respond to drugs, so only they are given the potent ones.
685562 tn?1447155231 Ive heard that there is a difference in the brand of meds that we with anxiety get. Like I used to get my 20 mg Prozac from Meijer "local Store" and had a few side effects, then my Doc switched me to 20mg in the morning, 10 mg at night, and I got them filled at the Pharmacy there in the DR's.
Avatar m tn I was on Prozac for 7 years and was switched to Lexapro by my doc about 2 months ago for IBS and depression. I stopped taking it almost 3 weeks ago and am having some withdrawl issues...brain zaps (although a little better today), dizzy feelings, etc... Has anyone successfully gone through this? How long till withdrawl issues improved?
Avatar f tn The surgeon was amazed that I waited so long to have mine removed because of the shape it was in....just a thought for you. I hope the prozac works for you. I know all drugs take a few days to get to used to. I would try to give it at least a week before thinking of switching to another. I know I should take them but I really want to get through all of my "health fears" on my own. When I was on Zoloft the first time, I had no choice.
Avatar f tn Also if you were on Prozac and he added the Lamictal, maybe the Prozac was not working as well by itself. You probably already know this but antidepressants are known for making many people Manic. I'm very glad this has not happened to you.

Avatar n tn My Mom is 92 years old. Has been living on her own in Elderly housing for 20 years. Her dementia consisted of repeating and repeating, forgetting who visited, etc. but went throughout her normal activities w/some services very well and very happiy. Always knew us but was starting to forget other people but after prompting she would be ok. 3 weeks ago she developed a very severe resistant UTI and then got c-dift (not sure how to spell that). Anyway ended up dilusional, confused, etc.
Avatar n tn I have heard that Suboxone could be used for pain in the elderly population to take the place of the many pain medications they may be on. such as morphine and Oxycodone Does anyone do this and how would I approach my Mother's Doctor about this. .
Avatar f tn The elderly generally take smaller doses because the liver metabolizes drugs more in the elderly. And any antidepressant can cause increased anxiety particularly in the beginning, but even later, as they can be stimulating.
