Prozac for social phobia

Common Questions and Answers about Prozac for social phobia

prozac

Avatar n tn I suffer from mild anxiety, panic and social phobia, Prozac worked great all those years and now symptoms are coming back. even more severe than before. I fear that any SSRI that I take will give me the same side effects, am taking klonopin when needed for sleep and panic. Have tried 5HTP,SAMe, St Johns Wort and the only one that seemed to work was SAMe but with a little anxiety and a little panic and social phobia ( that was about 10 years ago when I tried to stop Prozac).
Avatar m tn I've suffered with social phobia my entire life. Finally got it properly treated in my early 20s with therapy/meds. Recently my doc and I decided to try to out tapering me off of Prozac. We decided to stay on. When I got down to 20mg after 8 weeks I was neglecting hygiene and stopped going to the gym. Looking at a store would provoke panic before I went in. Thus we went back up to 40mg. After 12 weeks I would still have trouble with eye contact and going into social situations.
Avatar m tn I went to see the doctor yesterday and said i have social phobia. i fear making eye contact, feel like im being watched or judged. He prescribed Paroxetine and lexan ( spelling might be wrong), which use inhibitors to block interceptors to make the brain think that serotonin has increased. The side effecs are bad-- headaches, asethia, sexual disorder, suicial behavior, etc. I really dont think my illness is that bad, depending on the day, i could be completely okay or walking thru hell.
Avatar f tn I am 31 years old and I complain that I don't have many friends yet I avoid social situations almost always. It's a toss up for me to decide which is worse, having no one to hang out with or to put myself into a social situation where I may meet new people.I take Paxil to get me thru regular day to day activities. I was in prison for most of my 20"s and getting out made my social phobia worse because I only knew how to socialize with inmates and correctional staff.
Avatar f tn I have suffered from what I seem to think is social anxiety/phobia. When I am in the public eye I feel like everyone is looking at me and talking about me. Sometimes I get so bad I have to leave the public situation immediately. Sometimes I won't leave my home for days and here lately weeks. (Recently lost my job) If I do need to go to the store I will take my brother with me so he can go in and get what I need.
Avatar m tn I have been diagnosed with depression and social phobia from a psychiatrist.Initially i took escitalopram and olanzapine for one year but then i changed doctor because i didn't like him so much.I noticed that after the first couple of weeks of taking the meds my cognitive abilities dropped down a lot.The new doctor prescribed me prozac and rhisperdal but right now i also have short term memory problems.
Avatar m tn I am suffering from social phobia, my symptoms are some times I hesitate to speak or joke with my friends, I get nervoused to meet with my friends or relatives, this is happening to me from the past 7 years Itry keep my confidence boost but no progress. should i take medicine or there is other way to cure????
Avatar f tn There are new medications for social anxiety disorders and depression. See a Doctor. They can help get you fixed up. (I've had similar issues, due to being raped when I was 15.
Avatar n tn Prozac can be very useful. However, it may not be necessary to employ medication. The first attempt should involve cognitive-behavioral treatment, and the clinician will likely be versed in this. If the use of CBT does not prove sufficient to remedy the difficulty, pharmacological treatment can be employed as an additonal component of the treatment plan.
Avatar f tn if he can prescribe me anything to help me relax for my Dr visits, so although hesitant he did prescribe Xanax for those situations that get me nervous, like doctors and flying on airplanes. Does anyone have any input on Xanax, he gave me a very low dosage, which is fine.
Avatar f tn Oh how I feel for you. I am a nutritionist. I'm in my 40's. But I had social phobia when I was your age too. I'm so very sorry that you were bullied. First, I want to say something about that that MIGHT help you. People who feel good about themselves want nothing more than to make other people feel good about themselves. And people who do not feel good about themselves do not want others to feel good about themselves.
Avatar m tn Hi, I suffer from severe social anxiety and public speaking, my doctor in Manila prescribed me Abilify and Sertraline. Did anyone use these medicine for social/public anxiety and does it help?
Avatar f tn When I went to see a doctor he prescribed me 10mg of Prozac. I have only been on the medicine for 4 days but I feel like my anxiety is worse than ever. I now have a constant tension in my shoulders, and I don't want to be around my friends or go out. I know the doctor told me that it takes three weeks to work but is this normal? It is really affecting my social life and my job. What should I do?
Avatar f tn As far as evidence goes, the only problem this has been shown to help with are those with heart palpitations that are real and not imagined and those with social anxiety. Prozac isn't the best antidepressant for anxiety because it tends to be stimulating, so I'm guessing your main problem is anxiety. Only trying this drug will tell you if it will work, but it certainly was never approved for this purpose. It does help some. It doesn't appear to help most.
Avatar m tn Im very worried i have avoided soaps and tried to use epison salt and that helps a little bit but then the pain comes back sometime less the others. Also have social phobia and high anxiety.
Avatar f tn t seen a doctor about this, but I seem to fit the description exactly. I was treated for social anxiety about 10 years ago, along with depression. I am not depressed and haven't been since I was treated, but when I try to break my isolation and socialize more, it makes me depressed when it doesn't go well. It seems I'm left with the choice of self-imposed isolation or depression, but I would prefer neither. Are there medications that can treat this?
Avatar m tn First month was fine, second month I feel this general sadness and lack of motivation, also extreme anxiety in large crowds. He originally gave me the Prozac for social anxiety disorder. I already do go to the gym for natural help. I am conflicted, I would love to take one less med. I don't like looking at all my pill bottles, if I tell him about the social anxiety he will probably bump me back up to 40mg and keep me on it.
605458 tn?1539228808 That would monitor the kind social situations you were in that day - telephone, in person, chat, etc; how much interaction was required, for example I could mark 1 social situation that required mininimal interaction or 2 social situations that required maximum interaction and how much anxiety was felt; mark medications taken, such as antidepressents or antianxiety meds, or things like relaxation exercises and maybe how much relief was gotten. Something along those lines. Would that be possible?
Avatar f tn Yes, the Prozac can make him hyper. Our child took Prozac at the same age as your son and she, too, did not do well on it. It did help her anxiety but seemed to take away her "filter" for saying or doing appropriate things. Our doctor then placed her on Effexor - which worked well but today she is on Celexa (citalopram is the generic term) and this seems to be the best "fit" for her.

Avatar n tn s, though social phobia can also result in some of those same social behaviors. The repetitive routine and the 'different' appearance lean more toward Asperger's, so be sure to ask this question when you see the psychologist.
