719785 tn?1232901518 Hi my son is 14. He has been on Prozac 20mg for over a yr. He mentioned about 3 wks ago that he was hearing a voice but could not tell me what it said. A few days ago he told me this again. He said the voice sounds like a demon and it is telling him to hurt himself and others. I took him to a mental health ER on Wed. He saw a nurse, a therrapist and a psychiatrist. The psychiatrist upped his Prozac to 40mg.
Avatar m tn Thank you very much for your amazing answer, Ive been on prozac since February, the scary thing is that I read it may cause schizophrenia, thats why Im scared of taking an upper dosage, but many assured me it has nothing to do with this, and knowing Im already 24 years old, they said Im not in danger.
Avatar m tn Works wonders when mixed with Prozac for Bipolar depression.... If you like gaining 35 lbs in just a few months, that is. Too bad, too, or I'd still be taking it.
1021784 tn?1306363011 As the above poster has repeated, Latuda is almost exclusively used to treat Schizophrenia, but she adds that it is prescribed for "other uses." After a great deal more reading and three phone calls, I have found that the ONLY other condition Latuda is used for is bi-polar disorder and most doctors prescribe it as a last ditch attempt due to its side effects. As the preceeding poster advised......"Ask your doctor WHY he prescribed this for you.
Avatar f tn Yes as regards insurance perhaps you would be eligible for Medicaid. If you went to a walk in clinic you could be eligible for emergency Medicaid which could transition into standard Medicaid. There are also clinics with a sliding scale fee and other insurance options as well. There is an independent living center in each county of each state and they could advise you of insurance options. Other agencies could be of help in this regard as well.
248167 tn?1220363690 I totally understand being afraid of taking meds., so I always started on a mega- low dose, because that gave me more peace. I figured that if I felt horrible on a small dose it wasn't the right med., so i'd stop before side effects were unbearable and try something else. Prozac didn't work for me, but it might work for you, and you won't know until you try. If you work, you can always start on your days off, if you are really scared.
Avatar m tn The first drug is an antipsychotic, usually used for schizophrenia and mania, which you don't apparently have. The second is Prozac, a common antidepressant in the ssri category. But you don't get depression by not having a sex life, so that's confusing -- you might be sad about it or unhappy about it but depression is an illness with not real known cause. The question is, how depressed are you? Are you depressed at all or just unhappy? Is your life severely interfered with?
Avatar n tn I was wondering where the best place for me would be to find a complete list of medicines I should stay away from with Long QT syndrome. I have a list but it is over 5 years old, and I am in need of a new one! Thank You!
569026 tn?1216982293 Taken several SSRIs in the past for anxiety. Adderall XR for ADD, Wellbutrin too. I have been seeing a therapist for about 4 months and he had me go for a psychiatry evaluation a few days ago. The two concrred that I am "complex" and could be a combination of BiPolar 2, Adult ADD and even...Borderline Personality Disorder (god I hate that name). Anyhow, one of the main symptoms we all agreed upon was the mood swings.
585414 tn?1288941302 However its specific use is as adjunct for schizophrenia. It is also used as adjunct in clinical study for tardive dyskinesia, Parkinson's Disease and psychosis from Parkinson's (which is different in origin than schizophrenia psychosis, they also found it of use in me in the study criteria tardive psychosis but more research needs to be done on that criteria itself before its determined whether it exists or not to begin with).
Avatar m tn org to read more about BP II. For schizophrenia, you need to have some pretty major symptoms in the absence of mood swings--things like hearing voices, usually commentating on your life or saying nasty things, catatonia or major lack of affect, delusions (you utterly believe something patently false or bizarre), paranoia, etc. A lot of the treatments for bipolar actually overlap with schizophrenia treatments, although Lamictal wouldn't help with schizophrenia.
585414 tn?1288941302 Therefore, PPI is believed to have face, construct, and predictive validity for the PPI disruption in schizophrenia, and it is widely used as a model to study the neurobiology of this disorder and for screening antipsychotics.
581310 tn?1253029550 I am feeling no different with the anxiety. I am thinking I might need to get on xanax for a little while until my prozac is increased since it is really driving me crazy. Any advice would be great.
Avatar n tn Our child was on Prozac for a year when she was six years old - she sufferd from severe anxiety and depression. We had major issues with the Prozac. Her doctor placed her on Effexor for two-three years with moderate success but some side effects as sweating and poor sleep issues. She now takes a very low dose of Celexa and is doing well. If it were me, I think I might choose point (3) with one of the newer SSRI's (they tend to have fewer side effects).
Avatar f tn I had to stop taking Prozac because of anxiety after taking it with no problems for years. So, if it works for you now, keep an eye on how it's working later.
Avatar m tn At that time I took Prozac along with Klonopin while I was waiting to build up the prozac in my system. Lastly, there is a book you can get called Self-Communication by Joseph Luciani. I found it to be very, very helpful this last go around for me which was the beginning of May. I am now on Wellbutrin and doing fantastic. So please make an appointment to at least see your general doctor and go from there.
Avatar f tn Thanks for your comments. Will give the Prozac a little while longer. What do you think of my doctors advice to switch from one drug to the other without weaning off the first one?
Avatar f tn My Dad diagnosed schizophrenic 46 years ago has deteriorated over last 4 years and has been told that he never had schizophrenia that he has bipolar disorder. He has not has psychosis for 36 years always on different meds. HE is making my mothers life hell she is a saint and his full time carer, he is so full of ANGER and taking it out on her. Is that depression? or what is it. What medication would help with this. HE is on high dose epilim and lower dose of Seroquel together.
1331182 tn?1275475604 The doc said to basically make a clean switch to prozac, for example Tuesday take last dose of effexor and Wednesday take Prozac. I have read and read and read everything I could find about tapering and withdrawal. I have NOT read one thing about anyone just quitting effexor and being okay. It is because of the short half life of the drug, meaning it is out of your system the next day. Prozac takes 5 weeks to get out of your system which is why there are no withdrawals.
Avatar f tn Last December my 11 year old was diagnosed with depression after he told me he wanted to kill himself. He's been off his Prozac for a couple of months (with the doctor's approval). Tonight he tells me he hears voices in his head and that he's heard them since before he was diagnosed. These voices tell him to hurt others when he's made or to kill himself. he said they confuse him and make it difficult to know what's really.
Avatar m tn 5mg (off-label use as anxiolytic) and Prozac. However, after using this combo for a month, my panic attacks have worsened, and I actually have to use Clonazepam SOS for severe attacks. My psychiatrist has now asked me to start on Zyprexa 2.5mg and Sertraline 50mg. My questions are: 1. Although I do not have schizophrenia, why am I constantly being prescribed antipsychotics as off-label anxiolytics? 2.
Avatar f tn I was on prozac for 2 years for panic disorder. It worked very well, but I also took xanax as needed for breakthrough anxiety. However, for the first two weeks or so, the prozac made my anxiety much worse. I toughed it out, and it did its thing.
Avatar m tn I could take a Beta Blocker to help control the symptoms or Prozac for longer term relief. I opted to start 10 mg Prozac just to get my mind back on track so that I could focus on improving my life vs. worrying about the next panic attack. So I'm currently at day 7 and its been a rough ride to say the least. Previously I was taking the Hydroxyzine for anxiety once a week, I have now taken it three days in a row. The worst is usually during the night and morning.
Avatar f tn When I went to see a doctor he prescribed me 10mg of Prozac. I have only been on the medicine for 4 days but I feel like my anxiety is worse than ever. I now have a constant tension in my shoulders, and I don't want to be around my friends or go out. I know the doctor told me that it takes three weeks to work but is this normal? It is really affecting my social life and my job. What should I do?
1348086 tn?1370783185 Prozac tends to be better for depression than for anxiety, but then, so is Cymbalta, since both are also stimulating (Cymbalta much more so). On the other hand, if Prozac works, it's probably the least troublesome of all these meds. Cymbalta is liver toxic for many and one of the hardest to get off of, while Prozac is one of the easiest to come off of since it stays in the body for a lot longer time and therefore the withdrawal is, for most people, slower and easier.
Avatar n tn https://i.stack.imgur.com/ezWwu.jpg https://i.stack.imgur.com/jCdZH.jpg https://i.stack.imgur.com/7Doz7.jpg The medicines that I am using are-: 1) Proate 500 2) Zosert 50 3) Sizodon 2 I am from Nepal and it is unconventional to ask doctors what you are medicating for. Doctors don't tell that as well. My guess is schizotypal personality disorder looking at the notes of doctor. I think stackexchange can help me this much.
