Common Questions and Answers about Prozac for headaches

prozac

Avatar f tn I know prozac causes me some pretty ruff headaches. the kind i never get unless i'm on prozac. so i guess yes it could. for sure.
581310 tn?1253029550 In my own experience, prozac only gave me mild headaches for the first couple of weeks of taking it. I'm now on lexapro (which is supposed to be one of the "cleanest" SSRIs), and I don't have headache issues - just stomach issues.
1765426 tn?1323520782 If so I would say give it a shot.btw I used excedrin for my headaches but it has a lot of caffiene in it which may makes the RLS worse. Not sure just a thought.
Avatar f tn I want to know if anyone has switched safely from Cymbalta to Prozac? I was previously on Prozac for a couple of years and my dr. & I believed that it had stopped being as effective. I changed to Cymbalta with great results. However, I am starting to believe that it is no longer working and am considering changing back to Prozac. Has anyone else had trouble with the drugs effects tapering off like that? And if so, how do I go about safely making the change?
Avatar n tn I've started taking 10mg of Prozac for almost a month now for anxiety and I've been getting a few different effects going on. I've been getting pressure headaches in the back of my head, sometimes I feel light-headed. I'm tending to space out a bit more than usual and getting drowzy (They said that would most likely happen, so I should take my meds at night). And the past few nights when I've woken up, my hands have fallen asleep.
Avatar n tn my father has been taking prozac for 20 years. he has been having chest pain and asthma like symptoms for about 5 years and is undiagnosed. for the last two weeks he has been having headaches and bodyaches so bad he can hardly move. is this from prozac and are there any known longterm effects of this drug?
2010625 tn?1329372056 I have taken Prozac for about two years. The main side effects I've noticed were initial insomnia and some facial swelling. Anytime I've gone down I have had some weird dreams. I just recently went up in meds and my face is puffy so that's annoying. Other than that Prozac has been a great drug for me.
Avatar m tn Things like going to work, grocery shopping or cutting the grass. I tried St John Wort and I felt better (I also saw my doctor for cholesterol and EKG for my chest and stomach pain at the same time as starting the medicine, all came back great). After a few weeks it came back so I got on Prozac (day 8) and wow, so far so bad.
Avatar n tn I switched from Paxil to prozac because of weight gain - been on th eprozac for one week and depression/anxiety symptoms are back in full force. I want to go back to Paxil - do I have to wait while the prozac gets out of my system, or can I start today? Do I need to taper off the prozac (20mg) if I've only been on it a week?
Avatar m tn I don't know what i am going through i don't know what this is. well i am 20 year old male i had depression before due to smoking marijuana once only, that lead to anxiety i've had anxiety attack/panic attack about 5 weeks ago i was on paxil it didnt go well for me. I've been prescribed for prozac day time & elavil at night.
Avatar n tn Hi, I have been having hypoglycemic-like symptoms the past month or so. My blood sugar is SOMETIMES oddly low, and other times normal. The doctors still don't know what's wrong, but after doing some research I personally think it might be connected to me not taking Prozac anymore. I've been having awful headaches and migraines (especially after just one glass of alcohol), shakiness, fatigue, lower immune system, nausea occasionally, and heart palpitations randomly.
581310 tn?1253029550 I am feeling no different with the anxiety. I am thinking I might need to get on xanax for a little while until my prozac is increased since it is really driving me crazy. Any advice would be great.
Avatar f tn SSRIs are notorious for weight gain, but Prozac has less of a weight gain potential (compared to say Paxil). Your weight gain may be natural - over the course of 20 years. Or it may be the result of the Prozac. But 2-3 pounds per year to gain from an SSRI is not very much. I was on Lexapro for 2-3 years and gained nearly 40 pounds in that time.
Avatar f tn I was prescribe zolof but I had to stop because of the headaches. Im currently on prozac but feel the same way I dont think is working. My doctor says those are the only two meds safe to take during pregnancy. I feel hopeless n guilty. I havent been able to enjoy my pregnancy. feel so miserable!!!
Avatar f tn Since adding wellbutrin on june 10th to my prozac which i am now up to 50 mg and xanax and adderall i have devolped a tummy...its fat i have never had this problem before Im still feeling depressed but functioning...dont see my dr for 3 months,i would like to just go off meds,im taking a vitamin b cpmplex now and emergenc hoping the vitamins will help....
517130 tn?1223039824 If your quality of life is so horrible while you are waiting for the Prozac to take effect, better you should ask your doctor for a MILD and VERY SHORT TERM use of an anti-anxiety med. If you DO go that route, then alcohol is absolutely OUT! Mixing those three is just asking for trouble. And then, when you begin to feel better on the Prozac, you can discover the world of "virgin" drinks! Since you're not an alcoholic, it will be easy...........
Avatar f tn It was prescribed for headaches and so far its been great. Ive lost 2 lbs. already. It controls appetite etc and keeps you from getting headaches but the sideffects are terrible. I take it right before bed and wake up feeling ok although the first few days felt very droggy. My neurologist wants to take me off it and i am refusing.
1275577 tn?1273233214 thank you so much for your advice. i have to say that switching my meds for weight reasons was not my best choice. I should have stayed with Prozac, other then the enormous weight gain i had no sexual side effects or other problems with it.
Avatar f tn My husband ws told he has cancer an that ws last feb. Its so hard for me to tlk bout it to my friends with out crying anyways my question is my dr as of yesterday gave me Prozac 10 milagram. An I have heard so much bad. Things about this drug through out my life an I need to know its this safe for me im so scared.
Avatar n tn Our child was on Prozac for a year when she was six years old - she sufferd from severe anxiety and depression. We had major issues with the Prozac. Her doctor placed her on Effexor for two-three years with moderate success but some side effects as sweating and poor sleep issues. She now takes a very low dose of Celexa and is doing well. If it were me, I think I might choose point (3) with one of the newer SSRI's (they tend to have fewer side effects).
Avatar f tn m not sure if my side effects were from the Prozac still in my system or if was the Lexapro- or combo of both!! But I did experience headaches for awhile. I stuck it out and the headaches did go away- I would at times take a .5mg Xanax when my head was hurting (especially at night) and that seemed to help loosen the grip on my head! I hardly need to take any xanax which is good cause I think the Lexapro is finally regulated.
Avatar f tn Was just wondering if I need to give it a little longer for the prozac to wrk or is it time for a change.
Avatar f tn I had to stop taking Prozac because of anxiety after taking it with no problems for years. So, if it works for you now, keep an eye on how it's working later.
Avatar m tn Yes, indeed, but for one thing -- Prozac has a host of side effects. It's just that how many a person gets is a very individual thing as brains are a very individual thing. As with any antidepressant, Prozac can cause personalty changes, it can be overly stimulating, it can cause sedation, it can cause weight gain, headaches, constipation, loose stools, other digestive problems, violent thoughts and actions, suicidal thoughts and actions, and many many more.
Avatar f tn As far as headaches with stress, that's really common for me... and it gets a ton worse when I try to stop being on a medicine. Medicine, and withdrawal from medicine, is unique to each person physically, and so is alot of the reactions to anxiety itself. I find the headaches to withdrawal somewhat 'unique' among my other headaches. My usual tension headaches sort of start towards the my shoulders, neck, and then back of my head.
Avatar n tn I have taken numerous depression drugs in the past where my doc has started me on a very low dosage and worked me up to higher dosages but on prozac we went straight to 40 mg. I have been having headaches, nausua and dizziness. I thought these symptoms would fade away but I have had no luck. I'm beginning to wonder if this dosage is too high. I don't know anything about prozac....is this a high dosage to start off with?
Avatar f tn I came down on both lexapro and wellbutrin about a month and a half ago and have been on prozac for the past week. For the past month i have been having horrible headaches on the left side of my head. For about the past two weeks or so i have had some pain on the right side as well. With these headaches i have a lot of naseau, no vomitting though. I have been gagging for the past 4 months. Its pretty weird. It happened alot when i was eating out, also when i am walking outside in the heat.
Avatar f tn One other thing to mention are the general life style things that help too such as getting a bit extra sleep when you can, healthy diet, exercising and if you can get a massage focusing on your neck and head, that is a wonderful thing for headaches. If there is a 'place' that hurts-- an ice pack on it for a short time also helps (got hat tip from a physical therapist).
