Avatar n tn Are you in the US, or somewhere else in the world? What type of therapy are you receiving? I have Generalized Anxiety Disorder and I've seen therapists for years in the field of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and I also received 12 weeks of treatment for PTSD. I'm on Clonopin too, just switched from Xanax. Honestly, I am not impressed with it as far as meds go. Xanax is a nightmare that I had to get away from.
Avatar f tn I am going to assume that the problem you have is what is called generalized anxiety (as opposed to panic disorder, or obsessive compulsive disorder or posttraumatic stress disorder). Broadly these are the options - 1. Benzodiazepines like lorazepam (Ativan), diazepam (Valium), clonazepam (Klonopin), etcetera.
Avatar m tn Namaste, Effexor and Effexor SR are approved to treat depression, social anxiety disorder, panic disorder, and generalized anxiety disorder. They have also been used off-label to treat migraines, diabetic neuropathy, and hot flashes.
Avatar m tn Just wondering.... I have had a sudden onset of generalized anxiety disorder. Probably due to a few strange illnesses over the past few years (Vertigo, not pleasant, bacterial infections and Bells Paulsey). I am a 40 yo male. Recently the most routine things have brought on un-nautural anxiety and a few full blown panic attacks (also not pleasant). Things like going to work, grocery shopping or cutting the grass.
Avatar m tn For the past several years, I have been developing anxiety which at first I believed to be a form of GAD (generalized anxiety disorder), but more recently appears to be related to seasonal changes (SAD), since the pattern of anxiety begins in September and gets worse as the days grow shorter. My doctor has prescribed Prozac, 20mg daily for about 6 months and Xanax, .5mg twice a day as needed, 40 total.
Avatar f tn I have a question. I was diagnosed years ago with Generalized Anxiety Disorder with Anxiety Attacks and Agoraphobia. I had a discussion tonight with a friend who keeps saying I do it to myself. I have had this along with a diagnosis of ADD as well as Bipolar 2 and then Clinical Depression. I was wondering if Anxiety is really something that can be controlled by the mind or if it really does need to be treated with medication?
Avatar m tn I have a generalized anxiety disorder and a phobia of HIV and rabies. I went to get my blood work down and the nurse used a vacutainer to draw blood. However, the vacutainer holder was reused ( the nurse confirmed it is only the needle which is changed and not the holder as it does not come into contact with the patient) and now I think I will get HIV and I keep thinking about HIV until I get tested again at 3 months after the window period. luckily I have medicines however I hate this.
Avatar f tn I really don't think your case is too difficult to be treated. I'm not a Dr but from what you're describing it sounds like generalized anxiety disorder. There are several kinds of treatments to help you. Therapy and possible meds are a really good place to start. Just because Xanax made you feel worse does not mean another med won't help you. Many Drs will prescribed an anti depressant because it not only helps with depression but anxiety as well.
Avatar f tn It worked very well, but I also took xanax as needed for breakthrough anxiety. However, for the first two weeks or so, the prozac made my anxiety much worse. I toughed it out, and it did its thing. I don't know much about any interactions between birth control pills and antidepressants - expect that I've read that birth control pills can sometimes make depression worse, and some antidepressants can reduce the effectiveness of birth control pills.
Avatar m tn I took Lexapro for 10 years. Always in the morning. It worked very well for my anxiety.
Avatar n tn Therapy has done wonders for me to understand the way my mind processes anxiety symptoms and has taught me how to deal with them. Also the frequency of my panic attacks have decreased since going through therapy and coming to this forum has helped . My concern for you is your need for a Dr. you can trust. Maybe you should consider going to a Dr. that has a good reputation. Now take good care of yourself and keep us informed of how you are doing.
Avatar n tn m an 18 year-old girl, I have irregular periods and wacky hormones (PCOS). As well as a generalized anxiety disorder and major depression. I take prozac and I'm supposed to be starting birth control. I don't even know if that was necessary but anyways. Female masturbation, it happens. I happen to dabble in the arts and I just had a scare.
Avatar m tn I have been battling anger, anxious feelings, worrysome thoughts, O.C.D. (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder), and G.A.D. (Generalized Anxiety Disorder) for several years now. I also have a lack of positivity and energy. I am currently taking about five (5) various NATURAL Supplements from a homeopathic Ph.d. that I had been seeing. They include: ProDHA, GabaVal, Lizyme Forte, and MinTran.

Avatar f tn I have lived with Panic Disorder and Generalized Anxiety Disorder for 23 years and have taken Prozac, Zoloft and Lexapro. Prozac makes me irritable, Zoloft made me sick and more anxious, and Lexapro made me too tired and took my libido away. I am 3 1/2 years sober from alcohol. Any suggestions on a medication that might help?
Avatar n tn t say this since I work for a pharma company that *cough* is involed in the creation of some of these drugs, but frankly, I would stay away from Paxil. I also suffer from generalized anxiety disorder and panic, and I did try Paxil initially to help with the symptoms. It actually made them much worse and had a lot of very unpleasant side effects.
1472535 tn?1287684045 I have been taking Prozac for over a year for generalized anxiety disorder. I started on 20mg which was increased to 60 then down to 20mg which I have been taking for the past few months with no problems, until a few weeks ago. I am constantly suffering from adrenaline rushes which happened over the past few days and have had virtually no sleep. This is ruining my life I was wondering if anyone had this effect after taking a medication for a length of time and if there was any solution.
Avatar n tn Our child was on Prozac for a year when she was six years old - she sufferd from severe anxiety and depression. We had major issues with the Prozac. Her doctor placed her on Effexor for two-three years with moderate success but some side effects as sweating and poor sleep issues. She now takes a very low dose of Celexa and is doing well. If it were me, I think I might choose point (3) with one of the newer SSRI's (they tend to have fewer side effects).
Avatar f tn I have generalized anxiety disorder. I tried Zoloft in 2002. Like you it muted all emotions, caused me to gain weight and I did not like it. Tried Trofinil, that didn't work either. Last July I began taking Wellbutrin SR 150 mg 2x day. For me it is the wonder drug. I feel so much better and until I began to feel better I didn't know how bad I felt. If I am not mistaken Wellbutrin was used to treat anxiety long before it became a drug used for smoking cessation.
Avatar n tn Generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) is defined as chronic, excessive worry and fear that seems to have no real cause. Children or adolescents with generalized anxiety disorder often worry a lot about things such as future events, past behaviors, social acceptance, family matters, their personal abilities, and/or school performance. All children and adolescents experience some anxiety. It is a normal part of growing up.
Avatar f tn Prozac is used to treat major depressive disorder, bulimia nervosa (an eating disorder) obsessive-compulsive disorder, panic disorder, and premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD). Wellbutrin is an antidepressant medication. Wellbutrin is used to treat major depressive disorder and seasonal affective disorder. At least one brand of bupropion (Zyban) is used to help people stop smoking by reducing cravings and other withdrawal effects.
Avatar f tn I take 75 mg Effexor XR daily for generalized anxiety disorder, .25 mg xanax as needed. I sure have needed the xanax more since beginning tx 4 days ago, but I am hoping that will level off again. My doc's seem to think that this is fine. ;-) Good luck. Anxiety on top of this is awful. jt/jd- I plan to ask about Ativan. Do you think I can take it along w/ my other stuff on nights (like last!) when I am UP ALL NIGHT with crazy thoughts racing???
1001742 tn?1252685847 It is used to treat depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), and generalized anxiety disorder (GAD). It works by increasing levels of a neurotransmitter called serotonin in the brain. Increased serotonin levels can lead to an improved mood. I was prescibed this for my anxiety by my family doctor although I'm not sure if I should take this if I will **** dirty at the meth clinic.
Avatar n tn If you are experiencing panic attacks, the best medication would be an antianxiety agent (a benzodiazapame) such as Klonopin. I take Klonopin for generalized anxiety disorder. At first I felt very sedated. This could have been due to two headache medications I was on (am off of now), or my body hadn't adjusted to it. Now, I'm not sedated from it. For me, Klonopin helps a bit, but for panic attacks, it's supposed to work wonders.
