He is now in a psych unit and now taking clonidine and lorazepam, we hope that this combination will work for him coz, we, the family, are already suffering from his condition. Does the benefit outweighs the risk in trying prozac for an elderly patient? and does clonidine better in teating deppression?

OF PROZAC A DAY AS A DESPERATE ATTEMPT TO GET RID OF THE SADNESS AND DEPRESSION. IS THAT TOO MUCH DOSAGE TO TAKE? I FEEL HAPPIER. MUCH LESS SAD MEMORIES. NO DESIRE TO SHOOT/KILL MYSELF. WILL IT KEEP WORKING? WILL I NEED HIGHER DOSAGES IF THE DEPRESSION COMES BACK.?

I am taking 200mg Lyrica daily, plus 20mg Prozac, and Vicodin 5/500 as needed. I am miserable today - hurt all over I have a dr appt tomorrow morning but today is still long. I'm out of Vicodin and I have had a few 8 mg Dilaudid hanging around for awhile because a friend gave them to me. Has anyone had this combination of drugs? I need something but I am afraid the Lyrica and Prozac might interact with Dilaudid. Has anyone used Dilaudid to manage Fibro pain?

@ 2wks ago i noticed an almost burning sensitivity on the left side of my forehead, running back to top of my scalp when i touch the area lightly or brush my hair. i take prozac, cymbalta lopressor neurontin. i have fibromyalgia and atypical rheumatoid arthritis.53yr old female.i had two concussions on the left side.

I am feeling no different with the anxiety. I am thinking I might need to get on xanax for a little while until my prozac is increased since it is really driving me crazy. Any advice would be great.

Our child was on Prozac for a year when she was six years old - she sufferd from severe anxiety and depression. We had major issues with the Prozac. Her doctor placed her on Effexor for two-three years with moderate success but some side effects as sweating and poor sleep issues. She now takes a very low dose of Celexa and is doing well. If it were me, I think I might choose point (3) with one of the newer SSRI's (they tend to have fewer side effects).

I had to stop taking Prozac because of anxiety after taking it with no problems for years. So, if it works for you now, keep an eye on how it's working later.

Thanks for your comments. Will give the Prozac a little while longer. What do you think of my doctors advice to switch from one drug to the other without weaning off the first one?

In my journal August. 12, 2013, I recorded wgt. 247.5 lb, BP 157/101, severe depression & anxiety with heaart palpitations and mid-nightime panic attacks. Also using CPAP setting of 14cm for severe sleep apnea, and suffered almost daily migraines. Plus my triglicerides were, as my dr put it, "through the roof!

The doc said to basically make a clean switch to prozac, for example Tuesday take last dose of effexor and Wednesday take Prozac. I have read and read and read everything I could find about tapering and withdrawal. I have NOT read one thing about anyone just quitting effexor and being okay. It is because of the short half life of the drug, meaning it is out of your system the next day. Prozac takes 5 weeks to get out of your system which is why there are no withdrawals.

I was on prozac for 2 years for panic disorder. It worked very well, but I also took xanax as needed for breakthrough anxiety. However, for the first two weeks or so, the prozac made my anxiety much worse. I toughed it out, and it did its thing.

I could take a Beta Blocker to help control the symptoms or Prozac for longer term relief. I opted to start 10 mg Prozac just to get my mind back on track so that I could focus on improving my life vs. worrying about the next panic attack. When I went to see a doctor he prescribed me 10mg of Prozac. I have only been on the medicine for 4 days but I feel like my anxiety is worse than ever. Prozac tends to be better for depression than for anxiety, but then, so is Cymbalta, since both are also stimulating (Cymbalta much more so). On the other hand, if Prozac works, it's probably the least troublesome of all these meds. Cymbalta is liver toxic for many and one of the hardest to get off of, while Prozac is one of the easiest to come off of since it stays in the body for a lot longer time and therefore the withdrawal is, for most people, slower and easier.

I have a 13 yo son diagnosed with general anxiety disorder, mild depression, and OCD. He was put on prozac 1 1/2 years ago, starting at 10 mg. It helped a little, so eventually it was increased to 20 mg. In January, it was increased to 30 mg, but it seemed like the anxiety fears were more on the upswing, and the OCD wasn't as much under control. He also had a lot of health issues going on that same year, and we believe the prozac was tangled up and at least increasing his stomach pain.

I take Prozac for OCD. I have had OCD for many years but just started taking Prozac in October. I have gradually noticed a difference and usually for the better but still have times when I seem like I'm slipping back again. I have also noticed that I have times elevated mood,which is great....lol....but it's almost too elevated....lol. Anyway hope that you find the medication thats right for you. See treat your elderly cat like YOU would want to be treated when you get old and grumpy----- They have been there for you most of your life. Hi i am on my 1st month of prozac but my anxiety it aboutt he same and thats with taking an ativan everyday. Has anyone tired tofranil or TCA's for anxiety??? I was on tofranil before for almost 2yrs but it was for postpartum depressi with anxiety racing thoughts insomnia ect.... It worked real well once my body adjusted for 8 weeks i think.

Hi. I started Prozac 10 mg for GAD and Panic 3 days ago. I'm suddenly noticing increased anxiety. Is this a common side affect? If so, will it subside pretty quickly? I'm feeling worse than before:( Thank you!

Prescribed 20 mg prozac for 15 years because I suffered from panic attacks. During my 15th yr. at 20mg prozac I suffered a panic attack and Dr. upped my dose to 40 then 60mg. Did not have another panic attack, but could not overcome the anticipatory fear of having another attack. Dr. included 50 BID of Lyrica three weeks ago and I'm feeling normal again. Anyone have any experience with lyrica?
