prozac for anorexia

is celexa just for depression?? or does it also help with anxiety's?? is this one on the bottom of the list?? like zoloft,paxil,lexapro,prozac..this is in the same category as these others....please explain this??

I have been struggling with Bulima for 3 and a half years now and Im getting help. I want to try a drug to help me with the withdrawel affects of the crutch of eating for emotional needs. My Psychiatrist said Celexa, Prozac or Zoloft are my options. Celexa being the main one. I am concerned that I will gain weight though from their affects. I am also concerned it will increase my appetite. Will it help me with my mental addiction for the need to eat all the time?

It really helps a lot but I noticed an important weight gain since I take it. I googled it and foud out it was for the treatment of anorexia as well!!! Having a thyroid condition, I watch out A LOT what I eat, no fat no white sugar and as little carbs as I can. Even with the diet, I did put on about 10 kg in 3 months without changing anything in my diet. I was wondering if there was a medication similar to remeron w/o the weight gain side effect? I am feeling no different with the anxiety. I am thinking I might need to get on xanax for a little while until my prozac is increased since it is really driving me crazy. Any advice would be great.

Our child was on Prozac for a year when she was six years old - she sufferd from severe anxiety and depression. We had major issues with the Prozac. Her doctor placed her on Effexor for two-three years with moderate success but some side effects as sweating and poor sleep issues. She now takes a very low dose of Celexa and is doing well. If it were me, I think I might choose point (3) with one of the newer SSRI's (they tend to have fewer side effects).

I had to stop taking Prozac because of anxiety after taking it with no problems for years. So, if it works for you now, keep an eye on how it's working later.

Find a trustworthy website or two and look at the med. sheets. Are you on this medication for bingeing and purging, or for some other reason? It is true that some people go through a stage of bingeing when they are in recovery from anorexia. The body is malnourished and is trying to get what it needs to restore itself and its functioning. Also, the fact that you started puking to control your weight could be another reason.

t know anything about Portia. I had no idea she suffered from anorexia nervosa. I assumed she had anorexia - eating disorder from any cause - and that is why I assumed the anorexia resulted from her cirrhosis. Now, that I have read the gossip/Oprah stuff I lean more towards Willy's opinion.

The doc said to basically make a clean switch to prozac, for example Tuesday take last dose of effexor and Wednesday take Prozac. I have read and read and read everything I could find about tapering and withdrawal. I have NOT read one thing about anyone just quitting effexor and being okay. It is because of the short half life of the drug, meaning it is out of your system the next day. Prozac takes 5 weeks to get out of your system which is why there are no withdrawals.
