I have seen commercials that say Prozac and a list of other antidepressants could cause birth defects. But just like any other medicine, I would talk to your doctor about it.

I'm with acline I Also had to get off Zoloft. And I'm pretty sure I've seen warning commercials of Prozac leading to birth defects. But I'm not sure.

i am not on anti depressants but about a year ago i was considering it and talked to my OBGYN about it and this is what he told me - Prozac is a safe anti depressant for pregnant women. Research has been done and shows that prozac doesn't cause birth defects. you should ask your OB about this and see what he/she says. Maybe she has the same or different take on things.

I have been prescribed to take 20mg of paroxetine (paxil) but I am so nervous about it causing birth defects should I become pregnant. Because of my symptoms, my Dr. said prozac would probably not be helpful. Either paxil or Effexor...I know past studies had shown for Paxil to be linked to heart defects but now they are saying no (Motherisk Hospital for Sick Chrildren). I wouldn't take it. I stopped all my anti depressants as soon as I found out I was pregnant. I've heard way too many issues with them causing birth defects. Most are a class C drug or even D. And I wouldn't touch them. Just one opinion though.

I thought you all should know how bad Prozac can really be. I have been depressed almost my whole life and was originally on Lexapro but it just wasn't doing it. My dr. switched me to Prozac and i was on prozac for about 2 months. That's when things got really bad I was having crazy suicidal thoughts and violent out bursts. I didn't know why! I am a very nice person and usually stay at home. One night i attempted suicide and had to be rushed to the ER.

The Prozac may help your depression phases but probably will not do much for your manic phases. But I am sure it will be better than nothing. I am going to go the rest of my pregnancy without meds and I plan on breastfeeding so I will be off of them for a while.

Ladies im really concerned and cant get excited because im scared ive caused birth defects to my baby. Before I knew I was taking chinese herbs and also had a typhoid inj as I was goin to bali. Her surgerian told me whenever i was to get pregnant again i had to drink a higher dosis of folic acid to prevent birth defects, my ob prescribed me folic acid in pills which i have to take 4 of them every day im not taking no vitamins since he didnt prescribed none to me. Yeah, milk is definitely not necessary for anyone to drink. If you're worried about calcium Google "foods high in calcium" and you'll see many other options. As the ladies said above, soda isn't necessarily going to cause birth defects, but high sugar intake is not nourishing for mom or baby. I looked it up once and 4gms of sugar is about 1 tsp so one can of Mountain Dew, with 46gms of sug has ELEVEN teaspoons of sugar in it. One can! It's crazy!

zoloft might be different than what you were taking but there is a risk if birth defects especially in the beginning.. im still talking to my counselor so that is helping too.. ive stopped taking my xanax too..

t even like taking Tylenol. And now there are all those lawyer commercials for babie with birth defects as a result of Zoloft and other anti depressants. It scares me..

Hi Elaine, it So I am now 23 weeks along with my pregnancy. All is going well except I have had a lot of anxiety from my 3 miscarriages last year. My dr recently put me on 10mg prozac which I only took for a week because I am going to try to get through the rest of my pregnancy without it and perhaps start up near the end for the postpartum benefits. But now I am worried because I have read that antidepressants can cause pphd in newborns if antidepressants were taken in late pregnancy.

I can see no connection between your taking Bendectin and your Daughter now having Breast Cancer since birth defects were at the time the main concern regarding the drug rather than far reaching complications. For your information in case you were not aware the drug has been approved by the FDA and is returning under a different name after being discontinued some 30 years ago.

There is VERY little evidence that the hormones in the birth control pill will cause birth defects. The birth defect hype came from the drugs that were given to women who were ALREADY pregnant, to stop miscarriages. Don't stop taking the pill until a pregnancy is confirmed. It will not damage the zygote.

you would have to have an u/s and tests done through out the pregnancy to keep an eye on the baby. but there are higher odds of the baby having birth defects if its parents are blood related than if they were not blood related.
