Prozac and the liver

Common Questions and Answers about Prozac and the liver

prozac

Avatar f tn Well, I would ask your liver doctor about it but, are you on tx? I took a plethora of drugs on tx, including two different ad's and nobody, including two different hepatologists, seemed to have a problem with it. Of course, my liver enzymes were high as all get out from the time I got hcv in July of 2007 until the time I finished treatment, but then they resolved back to my pre-hcv levels which are extremely low. teens or twenties, something like that.
Avatar n tn I have very little varicose veins n i dont smoke or drink but i am on prozac 3 tablets in the morning and 2 tablets of risperidone at night. What is wrong with me?
Avatar f tn There are also some differences in how they are eliminated from the body (100% in the liver for prozac, 64% in the kidney and 36% in the liver for paxil). Prozac and paxil are both ssri's. They also have a lot of similarities. If you want to look at other information on the meds you may like to visit rxlist.com.
Avatar f tn DO NOT STOP THE PROZAC ABRUPTLY, this can cause seizures and other bad side affects. Call the doc who prescribed the Prozac and tell him what you are feeling, that's what he is there for. He can guide you as to what to do. Don't go by other's experiences, as we are all different. Prozac is a safe drug, I was on it for many years.
1348086 tn?1370783185 Now with all that said, he has sent me home with a prescription for prozac. Can anyone give me the good, bad, and ugly???
Avatar m tn s pretty much under control. I take Prozac for anxiety and depression but have taken it for a few years and I feel fine. Sometimes there's a slight feeling of pressure with the tingling and sometimes I can feel the sensation in the same area as though it's going through to my back in the same location. Has anyone ever heard of anything like this? If it gets terrible, I'll get checked out. But for now, it just seems to be an annoyance. Thanks in advance!
Avatar m tn Has your son been over to Iraq or Afghanistan? Stress and anxiety are very prevelent in the services today, and if he was perscribed Prozac, I would say trust the doctors. I came back from my second deployment and was put on a different SSRI like Prozac, but I believe the most important thing is that he is seeing a therapist. This combination for me really helped me.
Avatar f tn How long has it been since you had labs done? The lab work always shows you Liver Function test and Kidneys as well. They seem to come together. You may just have an allergic reaction to some med. I've had those before only a prescription antihistimine worked. Plus finding out what the source of the allergie was. Yes part of liver problems involve itching, when your biliruben goes up. I'm not an expert. Just offering my opinion.
Avatar f tn Bill said it pretty much and I agree with epiphiny about just increasing the prozac instead of changing. I was on lexapro but had taken prozac in the past and prefer it. No AD withdraw symptoms from prozac. Also, you would have to be off the prozac some period of time before you could begin another AD. Regarding the enlarged lymph nodes, yes had them also, under my arms and in my groin. I don't even remember when they finally disappeared. I'm glad you are starting to feel better!
Avatar f tn Nor am I a doctor, but Prozac does stay in the system longer than most antidepressants of its class -- about a month. But it was probably safe to drink while one it as long as you didn't drink more than a drink. For most people the drinking part is because of two reasons, one of which might still apply: first, drinking can intensify the drug and the sedation from the drug, which isn't good.
Avatar f tn Two months before she died a Doctor John Becker indicated that her liver looked normal on the screens and that a Biopsy of the liver would not be indicated. What do you think? Tests do not indicate everything but my family told the Doctors that her symptoms indicated liver problems, but who listens to the layman. Obviously Doctors don't.
Avatar n tn s and thyroid are ok along with my levels. I wonder if they also check for the liver and just do not tell me. Thanks for the tip...research time!
Avatar n tn This is typical -- psychiatrists in general, and I've seen a lot over many years of this crap, are pretty lazy. I learned about it because the manufacturer of Cymbalta is seeking FDA approval for using the med for pain and the liver deaths have come out. This isn't unheard of -- tricyclics have for years been difficult for some and you have to get your liver tested regularly when you're on them, but they don't for Cymbalta.
Avatar n tn You already got the answer -- Prozac stays in the system longer than other ssris. That's both better and worse -- it's better because it makes it easier to stop than other ssris. It's worse because bad side effects upon starting can last longer when you stop. And don't eliminate the possibility of some withdrawal -- everyone has a different experience. When you have a lot of side effects, it means you metabolized the drug well, and that means it got to your brain quickly.
Avatar n tn t tell you if that will do the same thing...ease the withdrawal. My son was on prozac for 4 weeks and than the doctor stopped it Cold turkey (not sure if I agree with that method) 10 days ago. He is doing just Ok. side effects nothing like effexor though.
484508 tn?1290010544 hitman it has nothing to do with the prozac. it is the klonopin w/d...i gaurentee it. start back on the prozac and get a taper schedule from ryan for the klonopin. treat them as 2 seperate issues. if you experience anxiety attribute it to the klonopin withdrawal and stay on the prozac. this one i know about, you could say i am an expert. the hasty taper schedule is what caused ALL your symptoms not the prozac.
Avatar n tn s scare me to death and now I have developed terrible shakiness that usually starts in the mornings and subsides as the day goes by. I am conviced in my head that something horrible is wrong but cant seem to convince anyone else of this. I am on prozac for anxiety, toprol to slow my heart beats, and Tetrazone to help me sleep. I have never been on medications before and it is depressing me majorly to have to deal with this.
Avatar m tn So I researched about the natural treatments and have been taking the following supplements for my OCD in the given amounts and have seen improvement in the way my brain handles irrational fears- Vitamin B6- 40mg/day Vitamin B12-1mg/day Folic acid-1.6 mg/day Vitamin D3- 60K UI powder sachet/week Ashwagandha(Withania Somnifera)- 500mg/day Cod Liver Oil(Omega 3)- 1.2g/day Turmeric with black pepper- 1 Teaspoon/day The question is, for how long should I take these? P.S.
Avatar f tn I finally went to the doctor and they ran some blood tests. The nurse called and said the labs looked ‘ok’ but they wanted to retest in a few weeks. She didn’t really give me much for details, so obviously I’m worrying. I have no other symptoms besides the bruising. I have started 2 new medications around the same time the bruising started, so I’m wondering if they could be related. Flouxitine and the Mirena IUD. I also had a baby 5 months ago.
Avatar f tn my godmother also hasnt had the wight gain with prozac- she was on onther medication however and literally blew up overnight. do some online research but from what ive seen and heard prozac is the best for not gaining wieght- alot of other antidepressants are terrible with that. but yes, prozac is supposed to be the best- its why my doctor put me on it (as i was worried). going off any type of medication usually causes wieght gain though, so watch out for that. good luck and keep me posted!
Avatar f tn Sounds to me like the Lexapro will enhance the side effects of the HCV treatment and maybe out weigh the benifits ? How bad dose the depression have to be before I take a chance on the possible benifits of lowering my depression . Will the Lexapro help with the Brain pause side effects as well? Any one with any information to help me make this choice would be helpfull . Thank You .
Avatar n tn I am able to live with my attacks (which can get really bad at times) and I actually have a fear of taking meds. I think the only thing I will take is a child's dose of tylenol only when I have a fever or migrane. I have discovered that taking Vitamin B Complex capsules have helped reduce my stress and anxiety levels. Also, I still love taking Flinstone vitamins, on top of the vit B complex. I feel great when I don't miss out in taking one a day.
Avatar n tn Can anyone let me know if Rozerem 8mg (RX sleep aid) and Prozac 20 mg (antidepressant) are safe to take with methadone (15mg daily) I am detoxing after 15 years on MMT and have slowly "tapered" my dose from 60mg daily to 15mg daily. I am having some insomnia & depression/antiety issues related to my husband being on the waiting list for a liver transplant. Just want to make sure i'm not gonna "croak" if I take the other meds.
719785 tn?1232901518 He also said that males at this age who have depression symptoms sometimes experience this. He started the 40mg Prozac on Thurs. morning and says the voices are more frequent. Does any one have any suggestions or know how long we should wait for the Prozac to "work". He has an appointment with a therapist on Wed.
