Prozac and side effects

Common Questions and Answers about Prozac and side effects

prozac

20632981 tn?1503687567 My question is, does Prozac have low side effects like Zoloft but does it work better? And should I be taking a SSRI or SNRI for depression and anxiety, what works better with less side effects?
1798419 tn?1315810427 How long do the side effect last?? And is weight gain a common side effect? My doctor swore black and blue that she had never come across a person who gained weight, and that it was more common to loose it on effexor. I'm a recovering bulimic so weight gain is a very scary thing for me, i wish it wasnt but it is..
2193833 tn?1339411302 Some people had no side effects initially, and the second time around, have every one in the book. That was me, pretty much. The bad news is, it will probably be much more difficult for you to adjust to the Prozac this time around, you may have to endure more side effects that are bothersome. The GOOD news is, the side effects still should subside in about 2 weeks (maybe a little less). The Xanax will definitely help with the side effects as well.
2080404 tn?1643113754 Hi there. Is this better? Prozac does give some gi side effects. When my son started this, he had nausea and it lasted for about a week and a half and then began getting better. He chewed ginger gum, ate tums and peptobismal chews. They seemed to help him. Was trazadone new as well? I will say that unless something is really awful, giving a full trial is best in my opinion. My son actually needed the full dose of prozac of 80 mg, so prepare that they may tweak your dosage as well.
Avatar f tn Usually there are side effects, which should diminish with time. I found Prozac did not suit me at all, but it suits lots of other people. My side effects were so bad I had to stop the 10mg dose within a few weeks. We all react differently to drugs, what suits one person, may not suit another. You have not been on Prozac long, so you may need to give it time to get into your body. If you really think the side effects are too bad, then I suggest you go back to the doctor.
Avatar n tn ive been on it for a year also, and just recently have been having the same side effects. ive had terrible nightmares that effect my sleep and my ability to function all together. i wish i knew what was wrong and could help- whenever i talk to my doctor she just ups my dose and tells me to give it more time. im now taking 40mg of fluextine (prozac). the other meds have worse side effects though, such as wieght gain- which for teenagers can be a big deal.
Avatar f tn Has anyone else taking Fluoxetine (similar to Prozac) experienced side effects? I have noticed some odd changes in the way my body responds to exercise; specifically, excessive sweating. I'm not sure if the medication is directly linked, but in the past year (I have been taking the drug for about 2.5 years) I break into an all over the body sweat very easily, and it has happened even when I'm not exercising.
Avatar f tn When I came off of it, my doc put me on a taper as I came off of it. I did notice some side effects like naseau and increased anxiety, however I kept an open line of communication with the doc. I asked if it would be okay to go on a slower taper as I came off of it. He agreed and the slower taper seemed to help with the side effects. I am glad that you are seeing a psychiatrist to help you with your medication prescriptions and questions.
1867019 tn?1353467540 Im not familiar with prozac but im on zoloft and it has gave me my life back.It did have a few side effects in the beginning and i didnt like it but so glad i stuck wiyh it cus i wudnt b were im at now,i was literally goin nuts with my anxiety and didnt think ne thing was gonna help me but this has done wonders for me.U can also ask ur dr for an anti-anxiety med to help wit the side effects if u want but they really arent that bad and go away after about a week.
Avatar m tn I woke up this morning worried about side effects and felt like my heart was racing and going to beat out of my chest. I took 2 xanax (which I've been taking for years) and feel like I'm calming down, but I'm worried this racing heart is a side effect or if it's just my anxiety of taking the new medication. I want to get my life back but I think I'm afraid even this won't work. Would appreciate any advice or feedback.
653169 tn?1303446369 Has anyone else had similar side effects with Savella and is it possible to take prozac with Savella?
Avatar f tn Any idea why I was better before I increased my Prozac from 15-20mg, side effects subsided off of Prozac but now persist with Zoloft?
Avatar m tn I am seeing counseling too .. they keep telling me PRoZAC ... which I read about and the many many side effects are frightening ... not sure about "naturopath"?? .. may have to look into ... I really appreciate the kindness in your concern .. you are a good soul!
Avatar n tn I am wondering if anyone has any of the sexual side effects? Prozac was the first med I was given about 2 years ago and I felt dead to the world and had terrible sexual side effects. I had to stop them. My doc said I may get them since Celexa is in the same category of meds. If I do then we can try something else.
Avatar n tn Have tried most all of them 15 years ago and Prozac seemed to be the one that worked without severe side effects and it worked very well at 20 mgs, then pooped out a several months ago. Upping the dose didn't work either. I suffer from mild anxiety, panic and social phobia, Prozac worked great all those years and now symptoms are coming back. even more severe than before.
Avatar f tn Prozac is a more stimulating antidepressant for many people, so that probably explains the sleeping problem. This might go away as side effects happen before effects do, or it might not. Only time will tell, but some antidepressants are just more stimulating -- the snri category and wellbutrin, for example, are even more stimulating than Prozac, intentionally so, but that makes them often not good for anxiety sufferers. Hope it passes, because Prozac is one of the easiest to stop taking.
Avatar f tn Did the blurred vision precede the headache? That would indicate a migraine or migraine-like headache. As for the anxiety getting worse, Prozac is known to be the most stimulating ssri and because of that is the least successful one used for anxiety. The good thing about it is that it's the easiest to stop taking and doesn't usually have the weight gain and some other side effects associated with the others.
Avatar m tn However, nobody knew why I had this problem. The hematologist said I had to stop taking effexor and prozac to check if those medications were the cause of my problem. I'm off prozac for a while now and I'm getting off Effexor now (which is a terrible experience) and want to know if somebody had similar problems to mine. We are suspecting an autoimmune disorder also, bur so far the doctors have discarded most of them. Thank you!
Avatar f tn I have been on Wellbutrin for 3 days and have severe insomnia, constipation and dizziness. Will these side effects last long? Will they go away eventually?
Avatar f tn t have the answer but it almost sounds as though you have answered your own question in that side-effects from prozac could be responsible. Do you remember roughly how long it took to adjust to prozac last time? I don't typically respond so much to the medication questions because medications can be complex and are best left to those with some knowledge or experience about them. It sounds like your doctor is managing the drug transitions well.
Avatar n tn I recently started taking Abilify and am experiencing uncontrolled shaking and light-headedness. What are the side effects of Abilify and are these a couple of them. Should I try something else to help with my depression. THe Psych. said that this in concert with my prozac should help me out. Thanks for your help.
Avatar n tn ve tried several medications for anxiety and panic attacks, but have had major side effects from them all. Zoloft, Celexa, etc. My doctor recently prescribed Prozac for my anxiety and panic attacks. In reading about Prozac, it does list anxiety and panic, but they are down the list a ways. Does anyone know if Prozac is a good choice for this? I don't want to take them if they aren't going to do anything. I don't have OCD, which seems to be the main disorder Prozac is prescribed for.
Avatar n tn Prozac (fluoxetine) is an anti-depressant that works by inhibiting the reuptake of serotonin back into your brain, thereby encouraging it to produce more. It has one of the longest half-lifes of all the SSRIs and is therefore one of the easiest to wean off of. It is generally taken early in the day so that you won't have diffuculty sleeping at night.
Avatar n tn Effexor makes it even worse. So the doctor changed me to Pristiq and said side effects will not be as bad as with Effexor. After taking it for 1 month I kept eating and gaining weight. And my menstrual cycle went crazy (one and a half months thinking I started an early menopause!). So I panicked and stopped Pristiq, but next day felt the horrible withdrawal effects (dizziness and nausea that kept me in bed). Next day I started taking 80 mg Prozac and withdrawal effects diminished.
