My eldest son, 25, has OCD-O. At 17 he became very depressed (OCD not diagnosed as yet) so went on prozac. Since then, because of various side-effects (bladder/sexual), his psychiatrist switched him to zoloft, then paxil, effexor, back to zoloft, then prozac, all the while trying to get rid of the side-effects. They helped his depression, but not his obsessive thoughts. He tried 'cognitive behavioral therapy', which helped immensely. Yoga & meditation also help.
I have taken prozac off and on for 20 years. This last reason I started taking prozac was because my hubby was going to Iraq and I started my checking and worrying about him. He is back now and I have weened myself off again of prozac and I have this awful headache that wont go away. I have had the headache for 4 days now. I have weened myself off plenty of times and never felt like this.
I then was put back on the Prozac and my doctor added Vyvanse for the binge eating disorder. The BED was cured but my OCD symptoms and anxiety have gotten MUCH worse. I am unsure if my BED will come back if I go off of the Vyvanse. I am wondering if the BED was cured partly from the Vyvanse, and partly from going back on the Prozac, which may have helped me to stop obsessing about dieting.
We met with a child psychiatrist and gave us the diagnosis but also said she had OCD and prescribed Prozac for her(about 1/4 tsp every day). I am concerned about putting her on meds but also feel horrible for her and her tantrums have been unbearable (stemming from the obsessions) for our entire family. Is meds for this along with therapies for the other autism issues the right thing or should i think twice about putting her on meds?
I went to my doctor today and finally admitted I need help. She has referred me for assessment and cbt and has prescribed me Prozac. I'm not worried at the moment about the medication, I just want to feel better but I am only 26 and I would love to start a family with my husband. I know I need to sort my ocd first but I am worried about being on Prozac when I do eventually get pregnant. Has anybody taken medication while pregnant and was everything ok?
My 7 year old was diagnosed with OCD a few months ago and is on Prozac. He doesn't do any counting or hand washing, nor do things have to be in any particular order, he just has bad thought ocd. He has to confess everything to me even it happened a year ago. And he will say to me "I just thought you are a pin head, but I don't think that anymore". He can't keep any of his thoughts to himself. He is now on Prozac and I'm wondering if it is making him hyper.
Hi there. I'm not the best person to answer this question. I have taken Prozac with success in the past. Currently I take a different drug. BUT I also take folic acid to counter the effects of methotrexate for RA and I don't feel it has had any effect on making my OCD worse. Honestly, over the counter medication I have not had much success with.
He also had a lot of health issues going on that same year, and we believe the prozac was tangled up and at least increasing his stomach pain. He missed three weeks of school in February, because it was so intense he could barely sit up. After stopping the prozac, he's doing better, although he does have other health issues so he does still have some on-and-off stomach pain.
I started Zoloft in July for a new diagnosis panic attacks and ocd. My primary care doctor prescribed it until I could get an appointment with a psychiatrist. After seeing th psychiatrist he switched me to Prozac. I went from Prozac 10 mg to 15mg with no issues. When he increased my dose to 20 mg I began to experience frequent urge to urinated and burning in my pelvic area. My primary care checked me for UTI and yeast infection.
I am able to live with my attacks (which can get really bad at times) and I actually have a fear of taking meds. I think the only thing I will take is a child's dose of tylenol only when I have a fever or migrane. I have discovered that taking Vitamin B Complex capsules have helped reduce my stress and anxiety levels. Also, I still love taking Flinstone vitamins, on top of the vit B complex. I feel great when I don't miss out in taking one a day.
After the intrusive thoughts and urges got really bad I finally sought out help and my psychiatrist says I am the textbook case of harm ocd. I was put on Prozac and recently my dosage has been increased. Honestly, my anxiety has gotten worse and now the fact that I can see triggers the thoughts and fear of harm and rumination. My therapist tells me to just let them go, but from the derealization to hyper awareness I only feel like I'm getting worse.
he has been suffering through depression and anxiety as well which r cured by prozac. now i m waiting and praying that he is cured frm ocd as well. main problem is he doesnt consider himself as doing something wrong, whenever i talk abt it he tries to prove that he is perfectly normal and all he does is also a normal thing. we have 2 daughters. i m very worried, has anyone else gone through same experience?

The only behavior that he has exhibited is pulling out his hair and constantly picking scabs that he has He is a bit hyper and high strung. But otherwise, he is a happy two year old. His ped did not refer him out to a specialist to be tested for this problem just basically took my daughter's word for what my grandson has been doing.
Absolutely what you have are OCD thoughts. I'm glad to hear that you know they are irrational thoughts but I know it is hard to get around them. I spent my college years looking for a bathroom. Even after I left one, I would think I had to go again, immediately...well there is an irrational thought for you. I knew where every damn bathroom was on campus and it was a BIG campus. I also had thoughts just like you are having. Anything we see virtually becomes fodder for the disorder.

ve had OCD since April 2015. I tried meditation and eating foods that increase serotonin levels, but it honestly didn't help me. I started taking Prozac in July 2015 and I was so much better by September 2015. The side effects I noticed were initially losing weight and just recently, starting this month, gaining a little weight. But my focus has improved tremendously.
I was diagnosed with ocd and was prescribed Prozac. But I am not taking it for the fear of side effects and withdrawl issues. So I researched about the natural treatments and have been taking the following supplements for my OCD in the given amounts and have seen improvement in the way my brain handles irrational fears-

I now take Wellbutrin instead and it seems to be working well. However, I need something for OCD. The Prozac used to address OCD but does not appear to work anymore. My doctor wants me to continue prozac but I have serious doubts. Is there a waiting period where in fact the tolerance that I have built up may go away and render the drug useful once again.
I was taking Prozac and it worked really well on my OCD and anxiety. I gained 30 lbs from taking Prozac, and I noticed I was always so tired. My Dr switched me to Wellbutrin. I'm on 100 mg and I take two a day, plus one Prozac. I'm on my 3rd week now. I felt pretty good on the 3rd and 4th day. I noticed I'm able to wake up early in the morning and that I had more energy. I even lost 5 lbs so far. But last week I noticed my OCD was coming back.
