Prozac and gaining weight

Common Questions and Answers about Prozac and gaining weight

prozac

Avatar f tn When I was taking Prozac I didnt gain weight.Paxcel made me gain some though.
Avatar n tn it is really frustrating as I am working out more and eating less but yet I am still gaining weight. I was 105 lbs before I started taking this medication, and so gaining close to 40 lbs in a year and a half is a lot. My face look bloated, my stomach looks like I am about 4 months pregnant (although my arms and legs look pretty much the same) --- all so frustrating --- so anything information and advice is very welcome and will be very much appreciated. Thank you again for your time...
Avatar n tn i went from 158 to now 168 in a year. I have been exercising a lot and eating healthy and im still gaining weight. Is there any anitdepressant out there that does not have the side effect of weight gain. Me gaining weight is making me depressed!
Avatar n tn So the doctor changed me to Pristiq and said side effects will not be as bad as with Effexor. After taking it for 1 month I kept eating and gaining weight. And my menstrual cycle went crazy (one and a half months thinking I started an early menopause!). So I panicked and stopped Pristiq, but next day felt the horrible withdrawal effects (dizziness and nausea that kept me in bed). Next day I started taking 80 mg Prozac and withdrawal effects diminished.
Avatar n tn Why the weight gain on these anit d's is it because you are so relaxed? Does Prozac have the same effect? I know 3 people on Prozac and they are skinny......I don't want to gain weight.
Avatar f tn I have been on both citalopram and prozac but citalopram was longterm weight gain, dry mouth and headaches and prozac major short term weight gain. Came of prozac for that reason after only a few months and wonder if it would've settled with time, or go back to the one i was on for 12 years but had some side effects including weight gain. Doc says my last option is mirtazapine but it is also an appetite stimulator.
Avatar n tn Keep to a good diet and exercise regime that is healthy for you. You may gain no weight at all. And if you do begin gaining weight, you and your doctor can determine if this side effect is worth the benefit of the drug. good luck to you and GREAT job overcoming your eating disorder!! Stay well.
Avatar n tn My Dr suggested to taper off paxil and go onto Prozac that this drug is weight nuetral- Has anyone done this and what is thier suggestion to me?
Avatar f tn Do any of you have any experience with Prozac and Lamictal as far as weight or loss?
Avatar f tn If your still gaining weight try some moderate strength training, because muscle eats more fat when its hungry. Get 8 hours of sleep and drink plenty of water. If your still gaining weight and you care so much then keep a calorie journal and reduce your calories by 10%. Idf your still gaining weight keep track of how much weight you gain per week and adjust your caloric intake as needed.
Avatar f tn It is entirely up to you what medications you will and will not take, irregardless of what the doctors recommend. (Obviously there ARE exceptions) Switching ADs is NOT a life threatening decision and Prozac is not the ONLY AD that will work for you. I have heard about Alli, only from TV commercials, so can't offer much of an opinion on that. But what I don't like are doctors who just keep adding more and more drugs with what seems to be the hope they'll eventually get it right.
Avatar f tn The truth is, turning 40 is hard on a woman regarding weight. When I turned 40, I began gaining weight. I had my kids later in my late 30's and then had the task of losing weight. Much harder from 40 on!! Our metabolism naturally slows down. There is a statistic about how much weight a woman will gain naturally as they age without changing diet or exercise. We just gain weight and our metabolism slows. Darn, I personally hate that!!
Avatar f tn If your concern is only the weight change factor just keep an eye on your weight and if you start to notice you that your gaining or losing call your doctor. The weight is one of the less serious side effects. But do your research on the Paxil and the dosage. Or nothing may happen at all the side effects vary from person to person. You may not have any side effects.
Avatar f tn Would be good to know if sum ones had the same problem and had change of meds and what to.
1448936 tn?1363206346 I hate it. I don't want to take. I'm gaining weight and I just don't feel like I need it. I felt better when I was just taking xanax as needed. How do I tell my doc this without sounding like I'm second guessing her? I also feel weird because my old doc treated me like a drug addict when I needed xanax refills and I don't want my new doc thinking the same even though my 30 pill script lasts me 2-3 months. I clearly don't abuse it but my old doc gave me a complex.
Avatar m tn Hi, I've had OCD since April 2015. I tried meditation and eating foods that increase serotonin levels, but it honestly didn't help me. I started taking Prozac in July 2015 and I was so much better by September 2015. The side effects I noticed were initially losing weight and just recently, starting this month, gaining a little weight. But my focus has improved tremendously.
Avatar f tn Hi. I had the same fear 3 months ago and let my OCD go for two months without treatment. It was the worst 2 months of my entire life. I felt i had no control over my brain but I was willing to go through that suffering instead taking medication and gaining weight. I was at my worst when I finally decided I can't do this to myself anymore and scheduled an apptmt with my psychiatrist to discuss medication as an option.
Avatar m tn My advice, only because I've been through this my whole life..is to express your concerns about weight gain on these types of medication. I've found a good combination of meds for my bipolar. My doctor informed me that these meds I'm on are weight neutral. Lamictal, and bupropion xl. I've been on Lamictal for almost 5 years now and no weight gain at all. I know people ask what's more important, happiness associated with meds that make you gain weight or skinny and unhappy.
Avatar f tn I noticed since I started taking the lexapro, I have gained about 10 pounds and it seems to be all in my belly, I have never had problems with weight before, I was the type of person who didn't exercise and never gained weight. Now I exercise and eat very little and still gain weight. I want to withdraw from this medication before it gets out of hand, when I start tapering and withdrawing I get extreme panic symptoms, so i don't know what to do, I feel stuck.
Avatar f tn Is there a correlation between taking Prozac and weight gain? I have been on this med for close to 20 years and have steadily gained weight during those years (2-3 pounds a year). I wondered if it is the meds or just me!?!
Avatar f tn A question to anyone out there that's taken Prozac and gained weight have they changed to a different medication because of it and which one? Did it do the job it needs to without the weight gain of Prozac?
1033596 tn?1252519593 Now I want to lose this weight and more through diet and exercise. Other blogs state that losing weight while on these types of medications is VERY difficult. I have found this to be true. Getting started is hard because my desire for food has increased--particularly with carbohydrate rich foods. Right now I am exercising vigorously once a day, and I have cut back on my alcohol consumption by a lot. Still--I battle with snacking. Any suggestions?
1745259 tn?1311370367 i was diagnosed with bipolar when i was about 15. i'm 26 now. i was hospitalized when i was first diagnosed. i've been on and off medication throughout the years. now that i'm married and have a child and my husband works over seas and i'm alone, i felt it nessesary to be on meds. the past several years have been esspecially hard for me. i have been working hard the past year to get myself stabilized and gosh, this is getting hard!
Avatar m tn Not muted, I could still feel but I felt at peace. I gained a lot of weight (biggest and more common side effect) and then developed a very rare side effect where my unhealthy cholestol shot through the roof and I had to stop taking it. Nothing I've tried has worked as well since.
Avatar n tn Wish I could help you with the weight, but I had the same problem with Paxil and I never solved it, and I exercise a lot and eat pretty well. I've heard that Prozac is the best for not gaining weight, but whether it will work as well or not, who knows? Didn't do anything for me.
