I have cut out coffee and try to avoid caffeine. The anxiety happens just as I'm waking up and lasts for about an hour then subsides during the day. I think part of it is because of the Prozac is very stimulating for me. This is my second time around on it. I was on it about 15years ago and it worked really well for me. Trying to remember if it caused morning anxiety though? I'm hoping that it's just my body still adjusting to the med.
I read that all SSRIs have stimulating effects. I am in no way depressed and don't need stimulation as I am sensitive to sugar and caffeine. What can be done for my anxiety in this case? Ativan is short term ONLY. 5. Does anyone think it is NOT the Prozac and that somehow the Metoprolol just now wore off (after 3 days) and my heart is permanently revved up? I am so afraid to exerise or do much of anything. Funny, both my cardio and psych prescribed exercise as my best weapon against anxiety!
These reactions are different than those associated with consuming too much caffeine which include jitters, headache, insomnia, and irritability. An uncommon component to caffeine that people experience adverse reactions to is tannins, but it does happen. Tannins are not only found in coffee and soda, but in chocolate and red wine as well. Adverse reactions to herbicides and pesticides used to grow coffee beans is a much more common culprit of adverse reactions.
Maybe there is another migrane med that will work for you that is compatible with the prozac. I have been on prozac in the past and it worked wonders for me (although I dont suffer from migranes so I didnt encounter your problem).
I have since learned to not panic over the weird heartbeats. I stopped smoking, drinking and caffeine consumption, all of this helped. I exercise daiy which helped reduce the anxiety and the extra heartbeats. Take a look at the heart forum on this site, you'll find lots of people with your condition and lots of tips on how to deal. Good luck to you!
maybe the prozac was too strong for you, and really I would say that you should have taken the prozac in the morning and the paxil at night. until you would be able to get off the Paxil. If that is what you wanted to do. My question is, when you tried the prozac, why so late at night? Did you try to stop taking the paxil at all during that time? If you did, it wasn't the prozac it was the paxil. And if you still takeing the paxil then maybe prozac is just not for you.
Caffeine is a stimulant and can trigger hypomanic episodes in higher doses, some can't even have a cup of coffee or it will tip them over. I didn't realize i was starting to be a little too "up" at my group therapy, then I went out with a friend and had a second cup of coffee. Within 2 hours I was in a serious hypomanic state, including a couple of paranoid moments, which has never happened before. Scared the bejesus out of me.
I've been doing research and have found a few cases where people are successfully taking Prozac and atenolol (it sounded like it was for migraines or something) but I was wondering if anybody here is on the same cocktail and if so, if there is any risk associated.
Then my Internist said even though I feel great now, I should still take the Prozac because during my cycle serotonin drops and I may have attacks and so on again. So, just as i am taking my last 12.5mg dose of Metoprolol, the next day I am beginning day 1 of Prozac. No Ativan usage at all. I still have had spasms in chest/legs etc. Not sure if they are related. I felt fine for 2 days then I noticed anxiety creeping in.
1. You need to stay hydrated at all times so plenty of water (I usually drink 1.5-2 gals a day) 2. Drink a protein drink that contains all the aminos you need; you'll notice the energy. 3. I drank Starbucks Expresso shots (cold) during the day; usually one every 2-3 hours but never after 2PM. 4. Push yourself into exercise, even if only for a walk, short run, etc...good exercise (sweat) helps release natural endorphins...natural pain killers and puts the body in a relaxed state later.
After awhile all medications like this seem to lose some of their effects, partly because life circumstances change, and their is a breakthrough effect. Yes, going off Prozac is normally 4-6 weeks, but if you start Lexapro, you can go off much faster as you gradually increase the Lexapro. The same is true for St. John's Wort. I would not complicate matters with 5htp.
i have been on prozac 12 days and at first tried it in the am but made me drowsy so i switched to about 5 pm and was doing ok,but kinda had a hard time falling alseep so today i took it at 10 am and i can barely stay awake,,,would it make that much differnce in the time i take it/I take xanax also but have not fekt this drowsy in days...im in amoxacillin and motrin for a toothache too....i guess i will go back to taking the prozac in the evening if i dont die tday from being so drugged...
I tend to have low blood pressure ( 90 / 60 isn't unusual) and feel tired a lot and so I rely on my drug of choice, caffeine. Yep, that is DUMB if I want to eliminate the palps, right? Soo, I'm trying to convince myself that it's worth a shot to give up all caffeine. My question: Realistically, is there a good chance it will help? And how long without coffee before I see if it is making a difference? one or two days? Thanks so much in advance......
sensation that just lasts for a moment but scares the you-know-what out of me. I'm taking a low dose of prozac and xanax for the panic and anxiety. here's my question: years ago, I went totally off caffeine. I can't remember if it made much of a difference in the palps. it did lower my, at the time fast, pulse rate. Now i drink 4 - 5 cups of instant, fairly weak, coffeee a day...

I have had rapid hearbeats and pvcs since I was 30 years old. I am now 43 and am having them again along with panic attacks. I have had an echo cardiogram and an ekg. Everything is fine so they say. The pvc's scare me to death and now I have developed terrible shakiness that usually starts in the mornings and subsides as the day goes by. I am conviced in my head that something horrible is wrong but cant seem to convince anyone else of this.

For the last 4 years I’ve been using nutrition—Intravenous and oral—to rebuild and repair the biochemistry pathways in the body and mind. Over four years experience —this includes heroin, and all other street drugs, alcohol, and prescription medications--has taught me that natural detox works 100 times better than detox formulated and predicated by the use of other mind altering chemicals.
This is a great site and I have learned a lot. Also, 10 years ago I was put on prozac for post-partum depression and just vaguely remember going through a similar experience and my Dr. adjusted my Klonopin then to counteract the side effects but I can't remember how long the side effects lasted and if it was this bad. BTW, I have only been off the Prozac for 3 months and the symptoms returned is why I went back to the Dr. After the adjustment to the Prozac I never had any side effects at all.
20 years ago I was diagnosed with mild mitral and tricuspid valve prolapses and i've had PVCs for 20 years. Mostly stayed off caffeine and everything was fine enough. They didn't bother me and when I did feel one or two of them, I just said to myself, oops, must have been that cup of coffee. In the meantime, ten years ago I got on Paxil for a depression, but have had diffifulty getting off of it for the horrendous withdrawal symptoms (electrical zaps, weird thoughts, feeling terrorized).
I have been on lexapro in the past for about 8 months. During this time, Lexapro made me very lethargic and turned "off" my desire to eat, so I lost a lot of weight. I then switched to prozac, which had little side effects on me, and I returned to my normal healthy weight. Now, 10 months later I am back on lexapro and am finding that instead of turning "off" my hunger, it has turned it "on".
Anyway I changed my psychiatric medication and went back on prozac and the stomach pain is gone most of the time. I also drink one cup of green tea a day and try to eat smaller meals. Serotonin from the prozac helps, I think. Prozac is generic now, so its cheaper than the other types of SSRI drugs.
However I know how it is when you finally get fed up of it all and just want to be rid of it all. I was on Prozac for about a week and I couldn't take it. I just felt so weird and isolated from the rest of the world. I had to stop it. My doctor later prescribed me Paxil and after reading all the side effects I couldn't risk it. My main problem was being addicted to hydros and that was the main thing I wanted to be rid of but I do have legitamate pain.
Avoid alcohol because it leads to dilation of the veins and arteries, and this can steal blood away from the central circulation Reduce caffeine intake Certain postures and physical maneuvers are helpful in raising blood pressure when sitting for a prolonged time, mainly by helping use contraction of the leg muscles to pump blood back to the heart and by compressing the abdomen to reduce the amount of blood that pools in the intestinal circulation.
Then, about 2 ½ years ago I had a near-psychotic meltdown, mostly about the devil and evil spirits, and was diagnosed with OCD and prescribed Anafranil and Zyprexa, which helped with the irrational thinking and obsessive thoughts a little. Between now and then, I have been diagnosed with OCD, Social anxiety disorder, GAD, major depressive disorder, ADHD, and most recently, aspergers/high functioning autism.
I have very low blood pressure 60/30 and a heart rate of 38-42. I am taking Prozac and Xanax and I am convinced that the Prozac did this to my heart. I have been taking it for 6 years and have been sick with these PVCs for about 2 years. I have thousands a day and I have found thqt jogging will take them away for about 1 hour. I can't jog at 2:00am when I can't sleep. Nor do I like jogging.
How are you now? Tremors and shakiness are the side effects of both lithium and Prozac. Excess of caffeine too causes muscle twitching. In your case that could be the cause. No it is not related to Lyme’s disease. Self medication should not be done. Especially in your case when you are on a combination of medication. Hope it helps! Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
