I took Prozac for anxiety and depression and it worked well for me for a couple of years. I eventually switched to Zoloft which was better for my anxiety. Though I stopped taking it as soon as I found out I was pregnant. Even though SSRI 's are considered one of the safest anti depressants that you can take while pregnant they have been linked to birth defects especially if taken during the first trimester.

Hi Sarah. I have two beautiful children and 1 on the way. I have taken Prozac at my ob's advice throughout both pregnancys and this one as well. In my case, which was anxiety, my doctor said the benefit outweighed the risk. I have two healthy children, and remained mentally healthy throughout both pregnancys. Ask your doc, they are very aware of what can happen to women under severe mental duress and stress. Just a little note to let you know there is a light at the end of the tunnell!

He is saying go ahead but my pharmicist disagrees. Is anyone out there taking this and breastfeeding by any chance??!!!

Hi there, I am wondering which antidepressants are safe to take while still breastfeeding? My baby is 6 months old. The doctor prescribed Prozac, is this safe. The reason I won't take Eglonyl or Zoloft is because it is most likely to cause weight gain and I am already overweight and unhappy about it.

The only thing to help me was Prozac 10mg once daily. It was like night and day. My PMS is torture for me and everyone else involved. I thank God my doctor knew the solution.

I was on Prozac before getting pregnant it helped sooooo much great medication. . Got off of it and still felt great but Dr is concerned for after the baby and even during so he said if I need anything g zoloft is what he will prescribe because it doesn't pass through breastfeeding milk and is class b I guess while Prozac is c ..

I have been on every ssri plus prozac since 13. Im now 16 and my thighs look ridiculous and when i walk it looks like I am slanted back b.c. my thighs don't match the rest of my body. I also read przac can do this. If I stopThe Drugs will this go back to normal, is it permanant, how can I know, and what drugs can I take to fix it?

I think you will find out more if you ask the pharmacist. They actually know more about medicines and side effects than doctors do. I really don't think you can take it while pregnant or breast feeding though. Best of luck to you and hope you get blessed with a bundle of joy someday.

I chose Zoloft first because I had read it was better for breastfeeding. I tried it a couple of years ago and got very jittery and quit, not wanting to accept that I needed medicine anyway. Despite all that, I hoped it would be better this time. It was not. This time I got diarrhea as well. My question is, can it be possible to have a better experience with Prozac? I've heard it's more stimulating and that worries me.

For my first pregnancy I made it to about 3.5 months before I started taking medication. I took Klonopin as sparingly as I could and I took Prozac. I don't remember taking the klonopin for very long and certainly not the entire rest of the pregnancy. The prozac was a low dose....I want to say 10 or 20 mg but honestly it was so long ago I can't remember. I tried very hard not to take the klonopin though.

Thanks! From what I have found it hasn't been linked to any birth defects but there is a higher chance of pulmonary hypertension after birth if it's taken during the 3rd trimester. I did take it while I was breastfeeding and didn't have any issues. I'm just scared to take anything while I'm pregnant.

My ob switched me to sertraline because it is very safe for pregnancy and breastfeeding, and it actually seems to be working. Maybe you should ask your dr about it? Stress is more of a danger to baby.

Ive been on prozac for a few years and my first was perfectly healthy. Im still on it with my second and everything seems to be progressing just right. Dont feel guilty about getting help. This medicine will make things just that much easier with your last bit of pregnancy and after the child is born if you feel better you can always stop taking it. I know that these meds work well and are very safe.

When I was taking Prozac I didnt gain weight.Paxcel made me gain some though.

I am able to live with my attacks (which can get really bad at times) and I actually have a fear of taking meds. I think the only thing I will take is a child's dose of tylenol only when I have a fever or migrane. I have discovered that taking Vitamin B Complex capsules have helped reduce my stress and anxiety levels. Also, I still love taking Flinstone vitamins, on top of the vit B complex. I feel great when I don't miss out in taking one a day.

The Dr said this would go away once the prozac fully kicked in , but its been a month and nothing. I know the prozac is helping but i have ups and downs all day. If I sit at home by myself for an hr or two i will feel depression and or anxiety. I guess my question is..... do you think that I should request a higher mg of prozac (20) or keep giving the 10mg pills a try? I hate having to try so hard to not feel depressed.

Hi i'm on Prozac and trazodone if you start on a low dose of trazodone it shouldn't be an issue and there really is no interaction with trazodone and Prozac because I've been on trazodone and Prozac for years and I've never had a problem you just have to take it like maybe you're better off just taking half a tablet or something

First of all, you shouldn't just stop taking antidepressants without discussing it with your doctor. Fortunately, you weren't on the Prozac long enough and you were at a very low dose, so you didn't experience the nasty effects of going cold turkey off these types of meds. Prozac can take anywhere from 4-6 weeks to reach "steady state" in your body. That is the point at which it will begin to help you.

I have been on and off prozac for 4 years and i now am experiencing heartburn. I take 20mg at night because it makes me dizzy but i dont get the heartburn until the afternoon the next day. I was wondering is it safe to take ranitidine 150mg effervescent? I took it all the time when needed before being back on prozac and it works i was wondering does it cause any side affect?

I have taken your great advice and am doing yoga and breathing exercises to deal with my mild anxiety instead. But heres my question to put my mind at ease. I took the prozac at 28 weeks for about a week. It wasnt right for me and I was too worried I was doing harm to the baby. After my 3 miscarriages last year I am always worried now.

got a new dr in may cause old one retired he had me try to up prozac and trouble with that so his asso. had me totally stop the prozac and go on wellbutrin sr 150am and pm,,,,after a week i was having prozac withdrawals so back on prozac i went and still on wellbutrin to be honest i dont know if my depression is something else cause neither brought me up or were stimulating..my new dt thinks i have slight add..anywayas i have been tapering off the prozac 10 mg a week per dr...

yesterday I went dr for anxiety and not sleeping at night. told her about my husband had been on Xanax for about 3 yrs and I have no in, so when my sleeplessness started , and anxiety I took one of his Xanax at times and some times I would have to take 2mg so she put me on 10 mg of prazac and 1mg of Xanax . my question is I scared to death of the anti-depressant because I have heard good people doing bad things on them I told her I was afraid of them but she insisted I take both.
