Hi all,
I am severely depressed & have been taking Prozac for a month now & my doc suggested Abilify to add. I had already put on 30lbs from lexapro, which is part of becoming depressed again. I have been on the Abilify for 6days now & can tell it is having a positive impact on me. I have had enough motivation to work out the past two days & I am really watching what I'm eating. Has anyone here had success with losing weight on Abilify & prozac?
I have only started the Abilify so far on day 3 … I was supposed to start together but I dropped the pristiq bottle and pills fell on floor now because of contamination ocd I can’t take them and insurance won’t pay for a refill yet so doctor says just take the Abilify for now , I’m noticing it is helping me to change my behavior versus the ssri just kinda helped me manage my existing behaviors but never had courage or motivation to change my behaviors so I’m hoping that’s where Abilify will come
Lightheadedness and uncontrollable shaking are side effects of Abilify. Some other ones are weight gain, nausea and dizziness. Prozac interacts with Abilify and may increase the concentration of Abilify in your body. That may be the reason why you are experiencing the side effects. If you just started on Abilify then you should go talk to your doctor and let him know that you cannot tolerate the side effects and be put on something else.
I think the member your talking about is worried about the possible toxicity of prozac and abilify together on her liver.
That's a very, very valid concern. Talk to your doctor about recommended dosages.He/she could change the proportions.
Or you could have him put you on something less toxic to your liver than prozac.
Also have him periodically test your blood for liver toxicity for peace of mind.
Hi I was wondering if anyone knew if the medication abilify could cause anxiety. My anxiety is so bad I don't know what to do. I am also on a low dose of prozac for depression. Abilify was added because the dr. thought i might be bi-polar. I dont think i am nor do my friends and family?? But recently the anxiety is unbearable i take xanax when it's really bad but it's has been so bad that i would have to take it once or twice a day and i really don't want to??? any suggestions??
Once I reached the therapeutic dose of Lamictal, I stopped Abilify and immediately experienced rapid fluctuations between depression and mania and my therapist told me to go back on Abilify at a reduced 2.5 mg. In addition, since beginning Lamictal + Abilify I have consistently gained 40 pounds.... 10 of which were gained within the 2 weeks I restarted Abilify at 2.5 mg. As someone who has a history of body dysmorphia and eating disorders, I NEED a different treatment.
and celexa over the past two yeaars...........so is it ok to drink it with the xanax and prozac........i had a couple i and i thought i got a buzz..which has never happened when i was on ativan or klonopin.could it be my imagination? several pharmamsits have said its ok to drink some with xanax and prozac.........years ago i drank real beer with xanax every day and i mean alot of beer and nothing ever happened...
Wellbutrin has been known to increase anxiety and agitation in people taking it, especially if they already tend to be anxious. I was on Wellbutrin and Abilify and did not notice any significant anxiety; once I came off the Abilify I was on the wellbutrin I was intensely anxious. I ended up stopping the Wellbutrin as well. A tip: if you plan on taking xanax long term you might want to consider Klonapin instead.
I just saw my doc today and he suggested i go on Abilify also. But when i went to the pharmacist he told me it would be $40 a month for the script. I can not afford that. The pharmacist told me about Effexor XR (that will be going generic July 1st). Has anyone been on this?? Has it helped?? I have also tried paxil, WellbutrinXL, and Prozac. These made me more depressed. I guess i just need some help as to what else is out there that works...
An SSRI is one standard class of anti-depresent in the class of Prozac, Paxil and Zoloft (and the others). An SSRE is a new class of anti-depressent. Someone who is more familiar with anti-depressents can explain how they work or look up some of the websites linked up that are clinically accurate but consumer friendly. Glycine is not FDA approved yet (its in Phase II FDA study) so its still an unknown quantity.
I am on 80mg of Prozac and was on 2 mg of the Abilify. I was doing well for a few week and then it seemed to poop out on me again. So the Dr. upped my Abilify to 5 mg. I have been at that dose for week and I am feeling ton of anxiety, worse than before. Anyone have a similar experience, whether it has been with the same meds or different? I don't know if I should ask to be switched or hang in there a bit longer?
I have been taking Wellbutrin XR, Lexapro and Klonopin (as needed.) Last year we added Abilify and the results were incredible. I came out of a very dark place, laughed, chatted, felt positive emotions and, for the first time in 15 years, felt like a "normal" person. But after a month or so I developed severe akathisia. It was so unbearable that I stopped taking Abilify.
This year I moved to another state and began seeing a new psychiatrist. I decided to give Abilify another try.
6 weeks along. My doctor took me off two of my antidepressants, leaving me on the class B welbutrin. My mood and mental health have been in sharp decline. I don't want to hurt my baby, but does anyone know what the risks are for Prozac and/or abilify? I'm struggling to get through the day and can't work at all like this. I'm scared and sad, and my poor husband is doing his best, but it's just not enough. I need help.
thought she maybe Bipolar weened her off Prozac and put her on Abilify. Total disaster very bad reation after only 1 day. Stopped that went back to prozac for the last 1 1/2 months or so. She has just started showing strong signs again of manic and obsesive behavior. Dr.s thinking prozac has backfired. She's been very agitated, angry, compulsive, crying, not knowing what's wrong or why she feels like she does. Even wanting to die. Four days ago took her to ER for eval.
3 weeks ago to Pristiq 50mg. The first week I took 30mg Cymbalta then 2nd week and since, no Cymbalta and only Pristiq (still taking buspar & Xanax prn)
I feel I'm noticing small improvements in the past cpl weeks but not back to normal. Today is a rough day with anxiety/adrenaline/agitation. I so want outta this hole and praying it works for me.
Anyone else have success switching to Pristiq? Would like to hear how long it took for ppl to notice a difference.
You might want to ask your psychiatrist about Rozerem an FDA approved medication that works like melatonin to adjust the sleep cycle and is safe and non addictive. The two newly approved antipsychotics Saphris and Fanapt work like Abilify in that they are serotonin dopamine antagonists (a slightly different class of antipsychotics than the ones before) so they might all have activating properties but for full information go to the medication website and of course speak to your psychiatrist.
