Common Questions and Answers about Prozac and abilify
I;m on 2mg of Abilifyand I love it but maybe you need another med with it, perhaps an antidepressant? Usually those of us with Bipolar disoder are on more than one medication. It's a matter of finding the right combination.I would get nack on the phone to the doc and tell him/her what's going on. They may change the meds alltogether. Don't get frustrated, it's part of the process, believe me I've been on everything all with no effect or bad side effects. Have you tried Lamictal?
Right now I am off of pristiq andabilifyand with only Wellbutrin and Klonoplin I am adding viibryd. So far I feel worse for the wear with the nausea and all but don't want to give up just yet ( only the first week). If this does not work I will try just the Wellbutrin.
My sister takes lexapro and loves it for her anxiety, my mom take celexa andabilify, my aunt takes lexapro also and loves it. My husband taks celexa for depression and lamictal for a mood stabalizer. He recently had to go off the lamictal and boy was it hard..he was so angry and mean so that really helps. But everyone is different. Your doc should try something else with you if prozac isnt working.
I already had severe anxiety with panic, I don't want to add deppression on because of the meds, if this is the case. Now the dr. wants me to try the 5 mg of lexapro and 2.5 mg of the abilify together, but I'm scared! I hate taking meds anyway but want to feel better. I have also been taking .25 mgs of zanax 3 times a day. I don't want to become a zombie!
I have been taking Wellbutrin XR, Lexapro and Klonopin (as needed.) Last year we added Abilifyand the results were incredible. I came out of a very dark place, laughed, chatted, felt positive emotions and, for the first time in 15 years, felt like a "normal" person. But after a month or so I developed severe akathisia. It was so unbearable that I stopped taking Abilify.
This year I moved to another state and began seeing a new psychiatrist. I decided to give Abilify another try.
An SSRI is one standard class of anti-depresent in the class of Prozac, Paxil and Zoloft (and the others). An SSRE is a new class of anti-depressent. Someone who is more familiar with anti-depressents can explain how they work or look up some of the websites linked up that are clinically accurate but consumer friendly. Glycine is not FDA approved yet (its in Phase II FDA study) so its still an unknown quantity.
I think the member your talking about is worried about the possible toxicity of prozacandabilify together on her liver.
That's a very, very valid concern. Talk to your doctor about recommended dosages.He/she could change the proportions.
Or you could have him put you on something less toxic to your liver than prozac.
Also have him periodically test your blood for liver toxicity for peace of mind.
Wellbutrin has been known to increase anxiety and agitation in people taking it, especially if they already tend to be anxious. I was on Wellbutrin andAbilifyand did not notice any significant anxiety; once I came off the Abilify I was on the wellbutrin I was intensely anxious. I ended up stopping the Wellbutrin as well. A tip: if you plan on taking xanax long term you might want to consider Klonapin instead.
I am currently on prozacandabilify for my depression and anxiety.
My pdoc originally gave me the abilify to help with anxiety but it
has helped tremendously with my depression too. I still think in
my case I need the prozac but the abilify has definitely helped.
My anxiety is so bad I don't know what to do. I am also on a low dose of prozac for depression. Abilify was added because the dr. thought i might be bi-polar. I dont think i am nor do my friends and family?? But recently the anxiety is unbearable i take xanax when it's really bad but it's has been so bad that i would have to take it once or twice a day and i really don't want to??? any suggestions??
Lightheadedness and uncontrollable shaking are side effects of Abilify. Some other ones are weight gain, nausea and dizziness. Prozac interacts with Abilifyand may increase the concentration of Abilify in your body. That may be the reason why you are experiencing the side effects. If you just started on Abilify then you should go talk to your doctor and let him know that you cannot tolerate the side effects and be put on something else.
I am diagnosed with depression and anxiety both and am on prozac, neurontin andabilify. The abilify does help with my depression but I dont think it would be enough
all alone without the antidepressant. Maybe you should look into a different
antidepressant. I know mine poop out every 4 years and I have to switch but
so far something else has always worked.
Depression and anxiety has gotten worse so I went back to my Dr. and he prescribed Abilify to take at night while he upped my prozac to 40mg per day and kept the xanax to what I was prescribed.
Last night was night 2 on the Abilify and for both nights, I have had NIGHTMARES!!! The Dr. gave me a six week sample supply, so I got my pharmacist to give me a print out on the med for information. This seems to be a drug used for psychotic purposes...ha. Guess I am psychotic huh.
to no avail -- I just was depressed the whole time on it, and felt like a zombie andProzac, 6 weeks, it gave me side effects and triggered a bipolar episode too)
1)Holy Basil: 300 mg/ 2x a day
2) A Women's One Multivitamin (bought specifically because there's a B complex in there, which is supposed to help us folks with bipolar, I believe. It's also a fantastic brand and made locally here in Santa Cruz.
3) Omega 3's: 9-10 grams a day, yes,9-10 grams - and my psychiatrist Dr.
I am on the maximum dosage of 80 mg of prozac
along with 100 of wellbutrin and 5 of abilify. It
bothers me that it takes such a high dosage to
keep me feeling good. Everyone else I talk to
is only on 10-20mg so I am scared of the effect
of taking 80/day. Is this unusual or dangerous?
and celexa over the past two yeaars...........so is it ok to drink it with the xanax andprozac........i had a couple i and i thought i got a buzz..which has never happened when i was on ativan or klonopin.could it be my imagination? several pharmamsits have said its ok to drink some with xanax and prozac.........years ago i drank real beer with xanax every day and i mean alot of beer and nothing ever happened...
I have been on abilify for 18 months and it is a wonder drug for me, for without I wouldn't be able to cope. I have been diagnosed with schizophrenia but my quality of life is excellent as I respond to the medication well. It takes roughly 6 weeks to truely kick in properly and I don't have any side affects. I also don't have any problems in my sex life either unlike some other medications which could pose a problem in this area.
I started taking Abilify this weekend with my Lamictal and I was a stoned out wierdo all weekend! I wasn't sure if it was the Abilify, but I didn't take the dosage last night (I started at the daytime and switched to night because I was so sleepy!! - my pdoc told me to do that if it happened), and when it left my system, the fog lifted. I swear my husband told me that I looked stoned all weekend.
I have used both zoloft andprozac in the past and they
both worked really well for me. Zoloft seemed to have fewer
side effects though. I am on zoloft now
along with wellbutriin and abilify. The wellbutrin helps with
the fatigue from the zoloft. My doc also has me on a very
low dose of abilify which has helped tremendously and
allows me to stay on a lower dose of the zoloft and wellbutrin.
Unfortunately for me it takes a combo to take away
my depression/axniety but it works so I do it.
Sister having horrible reactions during withdrawl from cymbalta andabilify. What can she do to help herself? She w as taken off both on Wednesday and put on prozac. Can she use tylenol for the headache? Someone told her it is not safe to do. Another person suggested melatonin. Is that safe? She is bi polar and has gained over 100 lbs on these meds over the last 6 years. This is ridiculous! Will she gain on prozac also? What is wrong with these psychiatrists, anyway?
How do I switch frm Wellbutrin XL 400 mg to Prozac? Doctor is suggesting this weaning schedule:
First week cut from 400 to at 300 mg
2 + 3 week decrease to 150 mg
4th Week 150mg every other day
Week 4 start Prozac with 20 mg for 2 weeks then to 40 mg
Also taking abilify
> Week 5 start to pull of abilify - cut tab in half (1 mg) week 6 stop
Started first week and felt miserable. I have to work. Is there a better way?
I didnt take the Prozac today (Sat) and I am told to start the Cymbalta this Monday ( in 2 days)
I have had withdrawal problems b4 with quick weaning off of Paxil and dont want to experience Seratonin syndrome ,end up in the ER ect.. I am also on ritalin,Lamicital,Abilify,attenalol.... Should I do this quick transition to cymbalta? My Dr said we dont have time to do it slow.. I feel he is having me do something Reckless.
He has tried Lexipro, Stratera andAbilify all of which we didn't like. He was crying all the time and didn't know why, panicing/couldn't get him to go to school, etc. The symtoms that were were treating esculated x10. It got really bad so I weaned him off everything. He clearly needs something for his depression & anxiety I know that, I'm so afraid to start the Prozac. Has anyone had their child on Prozac, what was the outcome good or bad.
