I also went on a much needed weight loss program and had lost 17 lbs. Then my insurance denied coverage and we are working on an appeal. I have heard that "Adderall" can help some people who were taking Provigil but you have to ask your doctor about that. I only hope this drug goes to a generic form one day so I can have it again.

Concerta is the same drug as Ritalin, I believe, and could well be the cause of your wakefulness and loss of appetite. I take Adderall, a similar drug, to cope with fatigue, and it does dampen my hunger, for sure. It's a good consequence for me, if unintended. I take 20mg of the extended release type each morning, and can feel it wearing off by mid-afternoon. It doesn't affect my sleep. It's possible your dosage is too high, so a consultation with your doctor is order.

HI kathy, Phendimetrazine is diet drug I wish you could get provigil, its a good drug and not a narcotic drug. Its not an MS drug really, its for narcolepcy (cant spell it). I took it a tear before my diagnosis because of my fatigue. I will use it as long as I can because all the other drugs are more addictive and you end up needing more and more. I could get them if I wanted. But provigil is so worth the price I pay. I give up shopping and work 2 days a week to pay for it right niw.

Good luck with the insurance - I hear lots of stories as to how particular they are about filling this drug. As for the hair loss, when you google "hair loss and provigil" you will find information that other people also suspect this connection. I hope this helps.

I am on a different mix of meds than you but have the same difficulty as you. Maybe adding a different drug than Provigil to stay awake would be a good idea. You see, Ultram works as a pain receptor blocker with actions similiar but milds as an SRI. Plus other actions. Being that works on serotonin, Celexa works on serotonin and Provigil works on serotonin,dopamine, GABA etc. it seems to me your serotonin is being on the reuptake too much.

like GSDgirl, I looked it up, and it’s labeled for weight loss. Have you discussed the use of Provigil (modafinil) yet? This stuff is FDA labeled for fatigue (think fighter pilots :o)), and is supposed to be non-addictive.

Sometimes the brain is so powerful that it can override the drugs side affects of appetite suppression. Truthfully, some people happen to lose weight while on the drug, some people don't. But the drug itself is not prescribed for weightloss. I would research other methods of weight loss as opposed to going into drugs, where the side effects will eventually wear off anyway. my bp was elevated 150/110 (its never this high, usually (117-128)/(70-80). I should note I recently added Modafinil (Provigil) (a supposedly mild side effect drug that promotes alertness but I was trying as an adhd drug, as per my docs suggestion). In the end this was much different from my previous TIA like event, and I just don't know what to do, I feel my docs do not care. Cab anyone here relate or offer advise?

Does anyone have information on Provigil Abuse? Is it possible? My husband was addicted to prescription Oxy for 5 years and since getting off (3 years ago) has been on several different meds to overcome depression, etc. He has been taking Provigil for 2 years, but recently he runs out of his prescription before the refill date and he stays awake for days on end, between 7-10 days.

Is anyone familiar with the drug provigil or monafinil for enery and depression...? It is a drug for narcolepsy....wakes me up but not sure about use during tapering tabs...

Another benefit of Provigil is that it also has an antidepressant effect. I believe I have read that it has been used in severely depressed individuals and is probably a lot safer than those so-called antidepressants that often end up leading depressed individuals to suicide. Are there any other meds for fatigue besides provigil? The reason I ask is because for the drug interactions for provigil says don't take if you're on beta blockers or amitriptline (sp). Which of course I'm on both. Thanks for any suggestions in advance. I see my pcp on Wednesday, and I want to be ahead of the game!

Thought I was ok until the amantadine worked its way out of my system and then I crashed. But new drug is giving me BP problems. Is anyone taking the drug with NO BP problems? How much can you take? I don't want to be left high and dry again with chronic fatigue and nothing to help.

I started taking provigil yesterday and wow I cant believe the energy I scrubbed the shower down washed the cabinets down went food shopping then took dog to dog park for 4 hours then home and dinner usually just one of these activities wipes me out . I am glad that I have energy but I feel jittery my legs feel like they are going hundred miles and hour and I am stuttering badly in the am I think I am trying to talk faster then I can get it out.

Thanks for the info, that is my concern about the Provigil, and I don't want to take any chances. Also, for the Lyrica, weight gain would be a concern because I have had gastric bypass. Oh well, I finally found a rheumatologist today, I have to travel about an hour and a half but I think it will be worth it in the long run.
