provigil to nuvigil conversion

hi. i've been on provigil for years w/o problrms. i wish it had more rapid onset, which nuvigil is supposed to have. it's made by same company to continue having the $ advantages of the patent. might not be any better than provigil but won't be worse. take as early as possible - as it has long duration of action. good luck w/ it. what's your dx?

Nuvigil is the NU version of Provigil that Cephalon has developed that will be protected under patent law from generic versions until 2023. They are doing their best to geet Provigil users to switch to Nuvigil over the next few years, protecting their market share and their profits. This is the same thing that was done with Ambien and countless other rx drugs. A new pill, AmbienCR was developed and released and the patent clock was reset to zero.

I have debilitating fatigue due to MS and have tried everything - Provigil, Amantadine, Adderall, Ritalin - the works. While Provigil helped for some time while I was still working, that was many years ago and its effectiveness eventually petered out. At the time, I was taking a very large dose in accordance to doctor's orders, and my side effects (heart palpitations, increased rate of speech, crashing, etc.) were quite bothersome.

For me there is a wonderful difference between Provigil and Nuvigil. Nuvigil starts to work faster, lasts longer, and really gives me mental energy that I haven't had in several years. The only down side for me is that Nuvigil has basically returned my energy and mental skills to normal. That is good. However, my body has lost so much conditioning over the last 2 years that I will have to work to get my strength and conditioning back. Now I have the energy to do that.

I was on Provigil for years never been on Nuvigil but it is probably similar only side effects I ever had was that if I took it too late I couldn't sleep that night one time I did look up the side effects for provigil and back ache was one of them but im not sure if I ever had that or not...

I used to take Provigil but switched over to Nuvigil within the past year because it seems to keep working a little longer. It was originally prescribed for me as part of treatment for sleep apnea in 2007, two years before I was diagnosed with MS. For me, this drug is well worth the price when I am awake (and alert) for the entire 45 minute drive to work in the afternoon. It is priceless when I'm still awake for the long drive home past midnight.

I had my neuro switch my Provigil rx from monthly to a 90 day supply so I could save money. It was costing me $50 a month, because my insurance has it as a tier 3 drug. Going to the 90 day supply lets me get the third month for $0 - it would have cost me $100 for 90 days instead of $150. I was very surprised and pleased when the new rx arrived in the mail - Provigil has now gone generic, and Modafinil (the generic name) was shipped instead of the name brand. The cost?

I was prescribed Nuvigil today by my MS doctor and wanted to see how people liked it. I searched and found some posts, but mostly from people who were just starting it. This is the first medication I've ever been put on for symptom management, so I am excited, but don't want to get my hopes up.

I took Nuvigil like Provigil. Go to the company website and they may have a card you can print and take to the pharmacy for a discount. That's what I did with Nuvigil until my insurance started covering it. I started out paying $300 at first. Good luck.

Is it possible to have a script written for nuvigil? They are trying to get more people to take it and I pay 5.00 with insurance right now. It is one of those cards that has limitiations but ensures you have some discount. I hope that you are able to figure this out soon.

I was given Nuvigil to help me with the fatigue that is causing me to have to nap pretty much every afternoon. The prescription is for 250 mg, but the neuro said I could probably take a half a pill and be fine. The first day I took it I was fine. The second day I was wide awake until 1 am, so the next day I took it at about 9 am. All of those days I only took a 1/2 dose. The third time I was having rapid heartbeat and hand tingling off and on throughout the day.

I take provigil (similar to nuvigil) for excessive daytime sleepiness. I also have severe obstructive sleep apnea, and use a CPAP at night. The provigil does keep me from napping during the day, and I take it when driving longer distances. I would caution you that taking a stimulant does not make up for lost sleep, it may work for a couple of weeks, months or so, but the lack of sleep will come back and manifest itself and make things worse. You should get treatment your sleep apnea.

I saw my neurologist on Friday and he said NO WAY to the Ritalin. He perscribed the Nuvigil for me to try which I'm hoping helps me out. I put off taking it due to the high cost and thought the Ritalin would be so much cheaper. He said the Ritalin takes out the good things and is to addictive.

For me, the difference between Nuvigil and Provigil was amazing. Nuvigil gave me back my life. Provigil let me leave the house but I had trouble functioning. And since Provigil is "going away" it is tough to even get samples. My insurance never approved Provigil but they have approved Nuvigil.

ve been making a switch from Provigil to Nuvigil. I use the Nuvigil more often on work days. It seems to be the longer acting of the two. Since I work afternoon shift, I need to remain awake and alert later, as I drive home at midnight or after. This isn't the kind of drug that causes my eyes to pop open and sends my energy into overdrive when it starts working. It does it's magic quietly for me even at higher doses.

Anyone who has trouble with Nuvigil keeping them up at night might do better taking Provigil. It is supposed to have a shorter duration of action. I found this to be true and I have taken both. Besides, Provigil is scheduled to be available in generic form in 2012. That should make it a little more affordable for you or your insurance company. Don't worry too much Nanci. Nuvigil isn't a drug you have to take every day.

This is my first day on Provigil, taking 200 mg this morning. This is an attempt to replace Adderall 15 to 30 mg per day. Provigil walloped my blood pressure. It dropped by 10 points when I check 12 hours after taking the first dose. I've been lethargic most of today. I finally took an Adderall so I could function.

Have you talked to the doctor who prescribed the provigil and nuvigil to see what their opinion is? Did they ever try decreasing your dose to see if you'd have less side effects but still benefit from the medicine? There are a number of other medications that can be taken to promote wakefulness.

It was me with whom the doctor was going to order the sleep study; however, I haven't seen my neuro, yet. I've talked to his nurse numerous times, and the sleep study thing dropped from the discussion. Since most of the time we play phone tag, I don't know the reason why. He ordered Ritalin and even sent his order through certified overnight mail, so I filled the prescription and started it the next day. I will see him Monday, so I will find out about the sleep study thing.

I know that Provigil today. It is nice to have good nsurance again. I hope it will give me some energy again. Not sure but, I seem to have had more energy to day already after only one pill. But, that might have been my hopes more than the medication. Anyone else have a memory of their first dose and energy effects. How about the first week?

provigil(modafinal) and nuvigil are non-amphetamine stimulants... nuvigil is the sustained release version. most health insurances will require a you to try other drugs like ritalin first or prior authorizations and after all that still have it cost a lot by having some type of deductible/coinsurance for either one of these. anti-depressants will not help with drowsiness/sleep attacks.

So I told him I wanted to start Copaxone he wants me to get it from the neuro Dr. so now I have to wait. I called them to see what they say. I asked if there was anything to take for fatigue he said No. He gave me Diazepam to help me sleep.
