5509293 tn?1428531475 Nuvigil, alerted, modafinil, Provigil are the same -as far as I understand. I am paying more than you - I have high deductible insurance but took the hit because I needed a replacement for amantadine to help with fatigue. Thought I was ok until the amantadine worked its way out of my system and then I crashed. But new drug is giving me BP problems. Is anyone taking the drug with NO BP problems? How much can you take?
Avatar f tn I dont know if this is accurate or not, but I thought it should be shared. I just read this in the "Health" Section of Foxnews.com I have heard a lot of really good things about Provigil, although I've never used it. It was recommended to me many times though. Just some food for thought. Seems EVERYTHING comes with its own set of dangers attached.

Avatar n tn Hi there. Modafinil or provigil is a central nervous system stimulant and much abused. This can produce euphoria, it can be abused for a high sensation particularly by students as stimulants for staying up all night for exams. There are certain common side effects associated with its use like headache, dizziness, difficulty in falling asleep, drowsiness, nausea, heartburn, confusion and burning, tingling and numbness of skin. There could be certain withdrawal symptoms associated with it.
572651 tn?1530999357 I had my neuro switch my Provigil rx from monthly to a 90 day supply so I could save money. It was costing me $50 a month, because my insurance has it as a tier 3 drug. Going to the 90 day supply lets me get the third month for $0 - it would have cost me $100 for 90 days instead of $150. I was very surprised and pleased when the new rx arrived in the mail - Provigil has now gone generic, and Modafinil (the generic name) was shipped instead of the name brand. The cost?

572651 tn?1530999357 Wondering out loud, here - hypothetically if I wanted to order modafinil (provigil's name) from Europe, since it does not require a rx there, how would I go about verifying that the place I ordered from would be legit? Just wondering.........
Avatar f tn Narcolepsy is considered to be a distinct medical condition. It is possible to have both, but I don't think that's what your discussing. Most medications for ADD or ADHD are stimulants of one sort or another, and prescriptions for stimulants are often used to combat MS-related fatigue. I believe several of our community members use Provigil in this capacity. I don't have fatigue to that extent, so coffee usually does the trick. Hopefully folks with personal experience will chime in.
12594947 tn?1426138835 When you ask "what sleep meds work best for you," I'm not clear on whether you're inquiring about meds to treat insomnia, early awakening, night terrors, sleep paralysis/hypnagogic hallucinations, sleep apnea, narcolepsy, or what? Also, alcohol has no therapeutic use in sleep medicine.
Avatar f tn Drugs which have been used for narcolepsy are Modafinil (Provigil) or Armodafinil. You should try the lifestyle measures first before going in for medicines. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
5160872 tn?1385248794 I have recently started on Tec, and so far so good. Neither Modafinil (Provigil) nor Symmetrel (Amantadine) helped me at all. Adderall does, though it gives me a dry mouth. There have been many threads over the years on these meds, which you can read by using the magnifying glass icon at the upper left.
7126533 tn?1388405470 I recently started taking Modafinil for fatigue and apart from the fatigue being much improved, the incontinence has also vastly improved - fingers crossed it has actually stopped. Is this coincidence or can the Modafinil have caused this?
Avatar m tn For the record, what I'm about to say is true. "I missed the starting gun". I've been on Modafinil (Provigil) for 10 years and counting. Furthermore, this drug said not to create physiologic addiction, actually does. I wonder how come I'm still alive. In my few weeks I was up at 10 pills 100 mgs, then 20, and most of this precious decade I kept at a cruising speed of 30-35. That's not within the recommended dosage. 3,000- 3,500 mgs.
18004103 tn?1462248643 my bp was elevated 150/110 (its never this high, usually (117-128)/(70-80). I should note I recently added Modafinil (Provigil) (a supposedly mild side effect drug that promotes alertness but I was trying as an adhd drug, as per my docs suggestion). In the end this was much different from my previous TIA like event, and I just don't know what to do, I feel my docs do not care. Cab anyone here relate or offer advise?
Avatar f tn versus something like Provigil (aka modafinil) which is non-narcotic and promotes awareness and wakefulness.
Avatar m tn I am taking nuerotin, Provigil, and copaxone. Last month during a blood test the Dr said my kidneys are working alot harder than they had been 6 months ago. I am currently having weird back pain and not feeling very well. Could the drugs be making my kidneys work to hard? (Along with the gallon of diet coke I drink a day). I searched the net and found some facts on how these drugs affect your kidneys...anyone else had these problems? Thanks.
1140169 tn?1370185076 My GP and I talked about this last month and she said she really likes this rug and has several people - especially shift workers- who use it and it is not addictive. The difference with the provigil/modafinil are sometimes subtle because it doesn't rev you up like an amphetamine. Try it Mikey, you might just like it.
Avatar f tn Medications initiated for narcolepsy are central nervous system stimulants like modafinil (Provigil) or armodafinil (Nuvigil). As the side effects and addiction potential is less. Some people need treatment with methylphenidate (Concerta, Ritalin, others) or various amphetamines. These medications are very effective but may sometimes cause side effects such as nervousness and heart palpitations and can be addictive.
