Common Questions and Answers about Protonix vs omeprazole

protonix

709686 tn?1277432159 Esomeprazole (Nexium) is slightly different than omeprazole (Prilosec). But your body could react the same way. You could try a small amount and see. There are some combo otc drugs by Rolaids and others that have an antacid and famotidine (acid reducer). Those probably don't work as well.
Avatar n tn I'm taking omeprazole for acid reflux's. Is there a similar medicine that does not carry the dizziness label. My acid reflux's is low.
Avatar n tn Now due to the pregnancy, it seemed to worsen as I experience painful heartburns. My doctor recommends I take omeprazole along with antacids. I've been taking antacids because I know they don't bare side effects on pregnancy. I am not sure though with omeprazole. I'm scared. I am afraid it might harm the baby. Anyone here experienced the same?
Avatar m tn my dr prescribed Protonix to me and I wondering how often does someone have dizziness from it and how long does it usually last? I haven't taken it yet due to that. Also I tried omeprazole otc and it gave me headaches. Does that mean I'm more likely to have side effects from Protonix?

Avatar m tn I have been taking 40mg Omeprazole for a year now for a stomach ulcer and because I also take celebrex 200mg for osteoarthritis I also have diverticulitis/ diverticulosis and had 30 polyps removed from my colon dec.
Avatar m tn Pantoprazole Sodium tablets). First I was taking Omeprazole, 20mg, but insurance wouldn't cover, so he switched me to the generic Protonix. Protonix is a PPI (proton pump inhibitor) and last I checked, Omeprazole isn't. I wanted to know from others experience... Which one gave you less side effects? Also, are the two exactly the same class of medication or different? I also had kidney stones in the past and read that some of the inactive ingredients in acid reducers can cause that.
Avatar f tn In October I had a burning pain under my breast bone and started burping after eating. Went to urgent care and doctor prescribed me omeprazole. Took it for two weeks and everything went away. The week of Thanksgiving the pain started to come back and then I had heartburn that lasted for 4 days. Back on the omeprazole. After a week and a half it didn't work so I went to the ER and they prescribed me protonix. I had an ultrasound of my upper GI and it showed nothing.
Avatar n tn old and have tried all the different perscription medications. I have been taking protonix for about 5 years now and I'm concerned about long term use of protonix and all the other heartburn medications I have been taking for 30 years. I still suffer from heartburn daily. I have had 4 Endoscopy's done at different times and my Dr. say's it does show some inflammation but no Barrett's Desease, thank God.
Avatar f tn 3 but my doctor wasn’t concerned. After no changes after 8 weeks of omeprazole, I was changed to protonix 2x daily. No changes after a few weeks, I went back to the dr because I started to feel right side back pain. He referred me to a GI which is in two weeks. Has anyone had or heard of this issue? What are some things I should make sure the GI does or looks for?
Avatar m tn I am a woman in her late 30's. I have been taking omeprazole for 2 years now. I was instructed to take it by a ENT doctor for healing of my esophagus due to acid erosion(scarring) caused by silent reflux. (Diagnosed via endoscopy) I have noticed a decrease in hunger, lack of "growling" of the stomach. Has anyone else experienced this? Is long term use of omeprazole really safe?
Avatar f tn About a year ago I was experiencing heartburn, I was diagnose with H.pylori, I was given antibiotics, protonix, I was given protonix for 3 months only, as soon as I stopped taking the protonix, heartburn return. I had an egd done which was negative for H.pylori, now I am experiencing nausea after I eat, maybe 3 times a week, when I experience nausea it usually ruins the rest of my day, I am not taking anything for nausea.
Avatar f tn Had total thyroid removal in September 2011. Voice still gets hoarse when I talk alot. Also, right side of my neck and under chin feels numb and tender to the touch. Been prescribed Omeprazole and now Protonix for "acid on vocal cord (box). Never had any acid reflux or heartburn. Have appointment for a "Swallowing Test" next month. As for the neck/chin issue...docs don't seem to be concerned about it. Was told it won't go away.
Avatar f tn Acid reflux is not considered heartburn. I had so bad first pregnancy that I lost 70lbs and felt terrible all the way through. This pregnancy I have it also not as terrible as first I'm halfway through it and I've only lost 20lbs. Protonix is what doc gave first time this time doc is giving Prilosec could be reason I'm not sure. I hope you're getting treatment for acid reflux could cause long term esophagus issues.
Avatar m tn rbc was 4.48 vs low end of 4.50, platelet at 144 vs low of 150 on range and 11 MPV vs. high range of 10...all other labs were fine...
Avatar f tn aciphex, otc omeprazole, protonix, prevacid, nexium, prilosec, and zantac (and maybe more that I'm forgetting). They do nothing for me! Some help a little more than others. My doctors keep brushing me aside and I can't eat or breathe! I can't even lay on my side at night, I have to prop up on my back with pillows. Also, my father and aunt have severe Crohn's Disease and ileostomies. My dad just recently died of unknown causes and my aunt is on a daily feeding IV.
Avatar m tn http://digestive.niddk.nih.gov/ddiseases/pubs/barretts/index.ht I am making one such suggestion which you can follow and see. Omeprazole is a good drug to combat this. Along with it you can try over the counter antacids. Avoid heavy meals. Avoid too much of caffeine, tea, fried food and drinks both alcoholic and non alcoholic fuzzy ones. Avoid heavy exercises within 4 hours of a heavy meal. Raise the head end of the bed or raise pillows to 30 degrees. Go to bed at least 2 hours after food.
Avatar m tn The recommended treatment is 90 days use of an antiacid of the PPI class, ( Proton Pump Inhibitors ), like Omeprazole, ( Prilosec ), or Pantoprazole, ( Protonix ) for example, at low dose but TWICE a day BEFORE meals. Zantac, ( Ranitidine ) or otherantiacids of its class, ( H2 Blocker ), wont work well in the case of LPR. It is of extreme importance to visit an ENT speciallist to evaluate your throat, specially your vocal cords.
Avatar m tn They are giving him protonix, omeprazole, carafat, and phenegran. For some reason they seem to think its h-pylori even though the tests were negative. They are sure its a bacterial infection..but can't seem to get the vomiting under control..oh they are giving morphine for pain. Does anyone have any suggestions or similar symptoms...he has been hospitalized at Rady's Childrens Hosp. since Friday, almost a week. Any advice would be greatly appreciated...
2899052 tn?1436831245 He gave me prescription pills called Omeprazole bi carb (PPI) medication. It gave me very painful headaches as side effects and I stopped taking them. Then he gave me different pills called Protonix (PPI) medication. One year later, the symptoms haven’t gone away. I still have bad hoarseness and the phlem or saliva sticks in my throat! It worried me so I had to go to a new ENT doctor. She said my right vocal cord is little sluggish.
Avatar n tn Saw dr today after asking questions where he first thought maybe gallbladder, he said ulcer or gastritis and he bets gastritis. Prescribed protonix. Stook first dose about five hrs ago. Also drank some baking soda water and took pepto and its still there. Not exactly pain, just a gnawing empty feeling even tho i know im not hungry. Anyone ever have this? How long for protonix to kick in? I had nausea this morning too and vomited which is why i went to the dr. No burning really no heartburn.
Avatar m tn Perhaps your son has allergies to foods with acids? Both orange juice and spicy foods have lots of acid content. You could trial him out on the over the counter Zantac, which is an H2 blocker, and will help with allergic reactions as well as indigestion. Or his own production of gastric acids are in excess and with the added acids in those foods, it leads to sweats, like when people eat hot chilli or hot wings.
