Common Questions and Answers about Protonix symptoms

protonix

Avatar f tn Anyone out there on Protonix? I was diagnosed with acid reflux and was put on Nexium which helped slightly with my burping but I was still getting stomach aches. I went for an abdominal ultrasound, endescopy and CT scan with IV contrast and all came back fine. My Dr just switched me to Protonix.
Avatar f tn The Dr gave me Nexium, but I was still getting upper stomach pain and pressure in the chest an back. I was switched to Protonix and it seemed to help with the upper stomach pain right under the breastbone. I'm taking two pills a day. Does anyone know how long Protonix takes to work? I was told that some PPI's could take 4 to six weeks to take affect.
Avatar m tn I have been taking Protonix for a little longer than 1 month; 2 40mg tablets a day. Before this I never had a case of anxiety/panic attacks. After taking the Protonix for 2-3 weeks I have been having severe anxiety, to the point where if I feel any abnormality in my body, I think I have some kind of disease. I have been off the PPIs for about 3 days and have not noticed a huge difference. So has anyone had an increase in anxiety after taking a PPI?
Avatar f tn Yes, it is possible for acid reflux to cause much of the symptoms you mentioned...it is best to see a GI Dr for testing as it is possible to have similar symptoms for too little acid as well as too much, so meds for too much can make you feel worse....and there are other medical issues that could cause similar symptoms. Go for testing and let us know what you find out. Also look to your families medical history.
Avatar n tn Since I have been taking Protonix for GERD, my heart seems to be pounding in my throat. This has never happened to me before and is alarming. My blood pressure has always been low. Is this normal? Is there anything else I can take beside Protonix?
Avatar m tn I only started taking protinix 8 days ago and have had horrible stomach pain. Back in October my Gastro doc did an endoscopy and results were esophagitis; basically inflammation and several small ulcers. He described aciphex. My insurance initially said they didn't cover it, but the dr sent over an authorization & I was told it was good for one year. First two months my copay was $75 but in January when I went to p/u @ pharmacy I was told it was $480.
Avatar m tn Currently, I am taking Protonix in the am and pm for heartburn problems that I have had for about 3 years (Dr thinks that it was likely GURD related symptoms). Recently replaced Protonix with Dexilant in the pm. Any advice would be great.
Avatar f tn in 2 and a half weeks, I finally realized the only change in my life was the protonix. After some research I found a lot of people with similar symptoms and I called my doctor. They told me to stop taking the medicine and call to see how I'm feeling in a few days. After I stopped the medicine the haze lifted but I was still having a lot of the other symptoms. I did some more research and found that protonix can cause a vitamin B-12 deficiency and anxiety.
Avatar m tn gave me Protonix because I was experiencing some acid reflux...I took Protonix for 2 weeks (1 per day at 40mg) .. I have been having very bad side effects... Naseous, dizzy, increased anxiety, palpitations, gagging, insomnia, rapid heart beat. I thought I was dying. I called my Dr and he blew me off saying he never heard of such side effects and that I am getting anxious maybe I should see a therapist. I have no history of bad anxiety and racing heart like this..
1635130 tn?1300137937 when I went and had an acid reflex test done and so am now on prescription Protonix--but I still seem to go through periods (every 2-3 weeks) of tightness in my chest and the feeling that my heart is beating really fast (and sometimes it is and sometimes it just feels like it) and this feeling like I have a lot of pressure in my head. So frustrated because I don't know if it IS in my head or if this is still GERD symptoms. Any thoughts?
Avatar f tn I was sent to a GI and scoped, stating esophagitis and small hiatal hernia. I was placed on Protonix once a day. I felt better, so went off, only to have a year of on and off again chest pain/breathing issues and on/off PPI medication. During this year, I have also had a full cardiac workup and full pulmonary function test, both of which were perfect. A few months ago I was sent back to the GI and he wanted another scope. This time he said GERD and to stay on medication.
Avatar f tn Mine was too! I was eating at least 8 tums a day until my doctor suggested at my 28 week check up that I take Prilosec until the end of my pregnancy. I was worried at first because I didn't want to take anything that would harm my baby, but she reassured me that Prilosec & Zantac are safe during pregnancy. Zantac will help fight symptoms after the fact for up to 12 hours & Prilosec will stop symptoms before they start all day.
Avatar f tn t have medicaid and yesterday my health insurance company said I must use generic of Prilosec first and if it does not work I guess my doc can request the Protonix. I really feel a difference not having the Protonix. Glad you can receive it. Thanks.
Avatar m tn I called it a poisoning because she was IVed with Protonix twice even though her drs knew she was allergic.Allergic reactions to Protonix are many and are 99 times out of 100 diagnosed as something else.Unfortunately a certain number of patients will experience severe reactions to Protonix such as pancreatitis. That is why Altana, the German company who developed Protonix made Wyeth set aside monies to cover such reactions before they sold the patent to Wyeth.
2121656 tn?1395674749 Do you have any residual symptoms currently? My rencollection was that things had resolved. If you have no symptoms, what is being evaluated? I appreciate that most GI docs consider an EGD to be part of their general physical exam but there should be some indication for it. The short answer to your question is that any risk of the procedure is miniscule.
Avatar f tn Then when I went to my doctor Thursday, she switched me to Protonix. If they are basically the same, could Protonix work for me if Prilosec OTC didn't? I'd really like to know because I've had this problem for almost 3 months now and I'm tired of eating plain food.
Avatar f tn I used to experience the same thing before I had surgery, sometimes balsalmic vinegar would seem to help. I knew that vinegar is slightly acidic, so I brought it up with my doc. He thinks that because stomach acid is so strong, the slightly acidic acid dilutes it. That being said, I'm curious why water didn't help. Was it very cold water you drank? I used to have trouble with that for whatever reason. How you take Protonix or related blockers is very, very important.
228936 tn?1249094248 hello my friend, i had the same problem myself , I went so long with reflux it tore me up, raspy irritated throat and alot of the time was trying to cure a cough that wasn't quite a cough if that makes any sense to ya. protonix is a PPI, or proton pump inhibitor which will cut the supply of acid being produced. it might take a little while before you lose the rasp, but it will go away. i was started off with prevacid and was even upped to taking it twice a day before i lost all symptoms.
Avatar f tn I went to see family doc and he did blood test to rule out pancreatitis (result came back normal), and put me on Protonix 40mg, once a day. I took for couple of weeks, and felt ok, so stopped, but pain would come back, so went back on it couple of days later. The bottle had 30pills, and one refill. After I took for 30days, I was off of it couple of days but again, the pain was coming back, so I went to get refill, and started taking daily.
1479013 tn?1330699762 t help but had to try that first before insurance would pay for Protonix. I have been on Protonix for over a year now and am having problems again. Right after I eat, I get bloated; I liken it to when you are full and you bend over to tie your shoe and you feel so much pressure on your stomach and diaphragm area and your head feels full of pressure. That's what I feel like after I eat and I am NOT bending over.
2121656 tn?1395674749 I started taking 25 mgs. of synthroid on Sept. 4th, and right away I've had relieve from a lot of my symptoms, including indigestion & heartburn. Probably is the placebo effect. Either way I'm still symptom free except for the heartburn, that's actually worse than before taking synthroid. I am having it all day. Therefore, I'm not sure if the synthroid is the cause or if it may be caused from me drinking my morning coffee without taking the protonix.
