The Dr gave me Nexium, but I was still getting upper stomach pain and pressure in the chest an back. I was switched to Protonix and it seemed to help with the upper stomach pain right under the breastbone. I'm taking two pills a day. Does anyone know how long Protonix takes to work? I was told that some PPI's could take 4 to six weeks to take affect.
They thought maybe the fact that I was chewing tobacco (which I do about once or twice a day) was causing the pain to flare up. One day I actually tried not taking the Protonix and chewing tobacco to see if it would get worse, but I didn't feel the pain at all. The Protonix seemed like they were helping for a short time, but I'm really not sure. I forgot to take my pills yesterday and I started having pains around 3 o'clock, so I took a pill.
So, two years ago I went to see a GI doctor because I was having severe stomach pain. He decided to do an endoscopy to see what was going on and discovered that I had GERD and eosinophilic esophagitis. I was then put on Protonix, 40mg once a day, and scoped a year later.
The scope last year revealed that I had Barrett's Esophagus as-well as eosinophilic esophagitis and also Schatzki Rings. So, I was raised to 40mg twice a day on the Protonix.
The upside is that the Protonix helped with the reflux and stomach pain, the downside is the bloating and constipation. I did call him just the other night and he told me I can discontinue use of the Protonix this week because you can stop taking it 1 to 2 weeks after the symptoms go away. And I agree, I was trying fibery foods, exercise, hot drinks, cold water, etc - and nothing was helping!
My problem was chest pain. And when tests revealed no heart problems, they assumed reflux. The protonix helped the chest pain, so I assumed they were right and was grateful for the relief. But now I have questions. I'm also a few months off of pain meds so it's possible that the side effects were there all along and being masked by the pain meds. Look, I know doctors have their pat answers, but in my 54 years of experience, anything is possible.
Anyone out there on Protonix? I was diagnosed with acid reflux and was put on Nexium which helped slightly with my burping but I was still getting stomach aches. I went for an abdominal ultrasound, endescopy and CT scan with IV contrast and all came back fine. My Dr just switched me to Protonix.
I ate some chicken broth and crackers, took the Protonix and here a few hours later, I am feeling the pain coming back. I do not have any stress in my life at the moment, so I just don't think this is due to an acidic stomach from stress. I remember that I had these episodes twice when I was between 8 and 10- such bad pain that I remember those attacks all these years later. Any input or ideas as to what this might be? I would like to go see a specialist but not sure which type.
gave me Protonix because I was experiencing some acid reflux...I took Protonix for 2 weeks (1 per day at 40mg) .. I have been having very bad side effects... Naseous, dizzy, increased anxiety, palpitations, gagging, insomnia, rapid heart beat. I thought I was dying. I called my Dr and he blew me off saying he never heard of such side effects and that I am getting anxious maybe I should see a therapist. I have no history of bad anxiety and racing heart like this..
my 18 year old son is currently hospitalized for the second time in 6 months for stomach problems. He has vomiting, which is acid, and or foam, pain in the upper left side of his belly. Said its a gnawing, burning feeling, pushing on it makes him feel like throwing up. He just had a scope procedure done and they found 5 or 6 red, raw areas of his stomach. No ulcers though. They are giving him protonix, omeprazole, carafat, and phenegran.
Ok so I had a upper Gi test done tuesday and they found I had little gastritis of the stomach and esophagitis and that my stomach was making to much acid. I been on protonix for 2 weeks now and after every meal and bedtime I take mylanta. I still feel sick all the time. Also i have very smelly green poop??????? How long can this take sometimes. what else can i rule out? Why could I be making to much stomach acid???? Please help its been three weeks a 2 days.
About 2 weeks ago I started feeling unwell. Pain in my stomach, pain in my back. I currently take protonix for gastritis that was diagnosed a couple of years ago. It got to the point where the dr. put me in the hospital for pain control. I saw the surgeon and he stated that I have a hernia and also have the gastritis. They changed my medications around to protonix, questren, and carafate. I was released from the hospital on Friday.
They put me on aciphex and did a gastoscopy , finding just an irritated stomach lining . Ever since then I have had nothing but tons of epigastric pain and into my back . They switched me to protonix 40mg twice a day but I have minimal relief . Also had my gallbladder removed about 4 yrs ago . Any ideas ? Please Help !!!
t know if it was just my stomach acid. Now the chest pain and stomach pain are not nearly as bad, but now I have horrible shooting pains on both sides of my lower ribs so bad to the point I can't even walk because every step is agonizing torture. Am I going crazy? What could this be? Does anybody else get rib pain associated with acid reflux?
I have been using Protonix for almost a year now and it's worked great to help my Gastritis but I noticed something. Since taking it, my period comes later than it used to and for less time. I am a bit worried, is everything ok?
I called the specialist and she told me to try twice a day 40 mg Protonix. I have been on this for a week now. My stomach pain has greatly increased on the right side under my rib to the point where I cannot get out of bed I hurts to move and I cannot get a deep breathe without pain. I get pain above my belly button below my ribs where I cannot fully extend my abdomen and have to stay crunched in a ball and it hurts to fully exhale.
I know supplements are difficult to get into your system for lack of acid in the stomach when you take protonix....but is it the same for iron rich foods? Would the stomach also block iron and other nutrients you get from food since it blocks supplements as well? If so, how can I take the acid reflux meds but still get the nutrients my body needs?
My Internal Medicine doctor advised the ulcer is being aggravated by the acid which is causing nausea and pain, the Zantac was not strong enough. She prescribed Protonix 40mg twice a day, I have been on that and feel great; no fatigue, no nausea, no pain! Will be on this regimen for 30 days and then slowly cut back dosage to maintenance level of 40mg once a day every other day.
I recently had a colonoscopy and the camera down my throat tests done (I'm sorry I can't remember the name of that test) It came back that the esophogus was burned and so is the stomach lining. No ulcers and no cancer. I wasn't given a diagnosis so I don't know what I have other than that. I was put on protonix and had severe side effects from it including loosing 20 lbs in 3 weeks from the vomiting caused by the medication. My Dr. took me off of it and put me on zantac.
m on Protonix and aloe Vera capsules, but I still get nauseous way to often and my stomach burns every few hours... my question is: is there a way to help ulcer pain without eating? I lost a job because of this stomach issue and just recently got a new one. I'm in school so I have to be making money to stay in school, but I don't want to get fired for having to eat so often and drink so often. I'm very desperate for any advice!
stomach burning/stomach sourness that gets better after eating, stomach fullness, fill like my stomach is full of gas, stomach cramps/soreness, burping and passing gas, weird stomach noises (mostly at night), tired all the time, worried, feeling weak, sometime cold (again mostly at night), and mild trembling.
I also have stool changes.
I have a white tongue when I wake up.
