Common Questions and Answers about Protonix medicine

protonix

Avatar f tn protonix and nexium are the same medicine. although the prefixes in pantoprozole(protonix) and esomeprazole magnesium (nexium) are different, its the suffixes that you need to look at. They are the main make-up of these drugs.
Avatar f tn The best medicines I have been prescribed are Nexium and Protonix. Protonix has a generic available so is inexpensive and works perfectly for me. Studies have shown Nexium to be consistently the most effective but it is more expensive and not always covered by every health insurance plan. United Healthcare for example does not cover Nexium.
Avatar n tn I'm taking omeprazole for acid reflux's. Is there a similar medicine that does not carry the dizziness label. My acid reflux's is low.
Avatar f tn I was prescribed protonix (40mg/daily) for 2 months after an endoscopy showed some inflammation in my stomach (ruled out ulcer and celiac). After 1 month of daily use I started to feel awful - my hands and arms were tingling, I felt off balance, like I was walking through a haze at all times, like I might pass out more than once a day, and started having what I thought were sensory migraines.
Avatar n tn She was prescribed 40mg of Protonix once a day. She has been taking this medication for one week, and has been experiencing dizziness and nausea. She weighs about 120 lbs. I looked online, and it appears that these are side effects that some patients experience. My question is: would Nexium pose the same problems for her?
Avatar m tn I have had GERD since October, 2008. I was prescribed Protonix and after a severe episode of the GERD in February 2009, a gastroenterologist at the Mayo Clinic, advised doubling my prescription to 40mg twice a day. In my August exam by my own gastroenterologist, after no symptoms whatsoever and the negative articles published about long term usage of Protontix, I was advised to decrease the Protonix to just 40 mg.
Avatar m tn gave me Protonix because I was experiencing some acid reflux...I took Protonix for 2 weeks (1 per day at 40mg) .. I have been having very bad side effects... Naseous, dizzy, increased anxiety, palpitations, gagging, insomnia, rapid heart beat. I thought I was dying. I called my Dr and he blew me off saying he never heard of such side effects and that I am getting anxious maybe I should see a therapist. I have no history of bad anxiety and racing heart like this..
270554 tn?1289511647 if I stayed on it would the symptoms gradually went away such as the severe dizzyness, brain fog or that is just how the medicine is? I take protonix, and sometimes xanax .25mg to help me sleep through all the gastric pain. Should I continue or recontinue its use or is protonix alone the best route for healing? Secondly, I been having so many problems after gallbladder surgery could it be spinter of oddi dysfunction which I hear amitrityline treats?
Avatar f tn Anyone out there on Protonix? I was diagnosed with acid reflux and was put on Nexium which helped slightly with my burping but I was still getting stomach aches. I went for an abdominal ultrasound, endescopy and CT scan with IV contrast and all came back fine. My Dr just switched me to Protonix.
Avatar m tn In the past I was able to control the symptoms assuming Carafate and 20mg of Prilosec or Protonix for certain periods time to time, which helped without causing any significant side effetcs. After some time both medicines started causing bad stomach cramps. I have had a reflux flare up for 5 months now causing me a mild esophageal inflamation.
Avatar f tn At the end of September, after having an endoscopy performed, I was Dx with severe Gastritis and given a new Rx for Protonix to be taken twice a day for 6 months which meant 60 pills/month. Being that Prilosec and Protonix are in the same drug class my insurance company has stated that I've hit my 90 tablet/90 day limit. The Protonix has finally helped with the pain and discomfort I've been having and now my insurance company won't cover it.
168348 tn?1379357075 I've heard the medicine name but not sure what it does and if any better/worse than others out there that are prescription drugs? And, anybody know if FDA approved for what age?
Avatar f tn I recently went to my drs office and mentioned that I was feeling nauseated again at 36 weeks. He stated that it's due to indigestion and I brought up how I used to be on an acid reflux medicine called protonix before getting pregnant but discontinued use of it after finding out. I've been feeling horrible but I'm iffy about taking it. anyone ever taken nexium during pregnancy?
1030353 tn?1262485688 It may not be from the medicine but it was odd that it only started after taking the medicine. I stopped taking the medicine after 2 weeks to see if it helps make the lump in throat go away.
Avatar n tn My doc put me on pantoprazole (Protonix) and told me to leave a difference of 30 mins between taking the meds and eating. But I still occasionally had some symptoms, such as mucus forming in my throat. One day by accident I ate 45 mins after my meds, and I was much better that day. So I experimented, and I've found that 45 or even 60 minutes works much better. I thought others might want to know.
Avatar f tn Hi, I am new to this forum in desperate needs of answers. I am a 24 year old female in healthy condition. I am not overweight (I weight about 125 with an 11% body fat percentage), I workout regularly, and I am generally healthy. However, at the age of 13 I began having stomach pains. I went to the doctor and he put me on a two week round of Prevacid. This did not cure the problem, although it did help.he diagnosed me with GERD and He then placed me on ranitidine to take twice daily.
Avatar f tn t have medicaid and yesterday my health insurance company said I must use generic of Prilosec first and if it does not work I guess my doc can request the Protonix. I really feel a difference not having the Protonix. Glad you can receive it. Thanks.
Avatar f tn Has anyone had to try more then 1 type of medicine to relieve their stomach pain from too much acid, gerd or whatever reason they are on the meds. I tried prevacid for 5 weeks and it didn't help at all. I am now trying prilosec and have been on it for a week now, It does seem to have helped somewhat but I still do have problems. I know some of my problems could be from not eating a lot. I don't know what to eat so sometimes I will skip eating which probably isn't good for my stomach.
1176471 tn?1263733305 put me on protonix for a month and said to stop it and see how I do...I still have days that our worse than others..I'm trying to figure out if maybe I have a food allergy which is causing it..I also am trying to read on food combing and diet to see if that would help me...I cut out alot of foods that I think might be causing my symtoms like, onions, caffeine, spicey, fatty, fried foods, tomato based foods...I have not had a test done to check my gallbladder yet...
Avatar m tn I called it a poisoning because she was IVed with Protonix twice even though her drs knew she was allergic.Allergic reactions to Protonix are many and are 99 times out of 100 diagnosed as something else.Unfortunately a certain number of patients will experience severe reactions to Protonix such as pancreatitis. That is why Altana, the German company who developed Protonix made Wyeth set aside monies to cover such reactions before they sold the patent to Wyeth.
Avatar f tn Then when I went to my doctor Thursday, she switched me to Protonix. If they are basically the same, could Protonix work for me if Prilosec OTC didn't? I'd really like to know because I've had this problem for almost 3 months now and I'm tired of eating plain food.
