The meds u r asking about also known as protonix used for acid reflux and GERD.....will have side effects on some individuals.To know or understand what long term use could cause symptoms wise, ask ur pharmacist or dr. Since we all respond to meds differently it is very diff to say what long term use might do to u.....

worsened IBS - bad abdominal cramps (caused by Nexium together with fever and Zantac) a white-coated and burning tongue (caused by Prevacid, Zantac, Protonix, Pepcid, Riopan). I'd like to know if anybody has experienced intollerance to the various antireflux medicines similar to mine. Have you ever had a severely burning tongue caused by them?

Jails, institutions or death are the most common long term side effects I have seen, or the person quits and has a program of recovery. Why do you ask?

i wonder did a doctor tell you you had multiple chemical sensitivites....

hi folks-just looking around for info re long term side effects of treatment and came across you lot ranting away on your keyboards! I successfully completed 6months tx in april 2007 and am now unable to do very much due to the fatigue,pain and confusion I've suffered since. Just wanted to be added to the list of damaged souls. Have lost a lot of friends to this horrible disease so am very glad to have cleared it but at what cost?

there has been numerous studies concerned with long term use and side-effects, but no concrete evidence of damage to the rest of the body, look up sherry brescia on the net, shes got some very useful diets which have cured gerd disease in many people, its all free, cheers.

BUT, I have to take it or I am in pain. So try not to worry so much about the long term effects when you are trying to survive today. If you are worried about this I would talk to my doctor and let them know what you are experiencing and there may be something they can do differently. Just dont stop any seizure med without a doctors help. Hope you feel better..

I am wondering if long term protonix use has been linked to joint and muscle pain as well as hearing loss. I have been taking proton pump inhibitors for 18 years and have just begun hearing about bone loss and other issues. I have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia after finally seeing a doctor about the pain that I have endured for over 10 years.

When I was researching Protonix and was reminded of it's side effects (I'd forgotten) it hit home. For some months I have been having those symptoms and several others that are progressing. All lab work that may explain the symptoms have returned normal. However I've taken Prilosec (Omeprazole) for many years.

my dr prescribed Protonix to me and I wondering how often does someone have dizziness from it and how long does it usually last? I haven't taken it yet due to that. Also I tried omeprazole otc and it gave me headaches. Does that mean I'm more likely to have side effects from Protonix?

She began having serious side effects. I started reading on the internet about long term effects. Now she has nearly all the side effects to greater or lesser degrees. The worst is falling. She's fallen 4 times in the last week and is covered with bruises, new and old. She is now taking 14mg per day and can't stop. She has been in two different detox facilities but as soon as she gets out, she starts taking it again. She is basically an invalid.

How long term? 6 months to a year is not that long to be on it, but if you are thinking like 5 to 10 years is more longer term. It is all definitely possible if it is needed, some times a drug will lose its ability to work after a while so has to be changed with another but I think if it works now then that's great and don't worry about the future to much, what will happen will happen. Sorry don't know about the memory and side effects long term.

Are there any side effect of taking vitamins(e.g. vitamin D+calcium) for long time as 3 months or more. Does "Omeprazole 20mg" cause any harmful effect in long term use ?
