Common Questions and Answers about Protonix for gi bleed

protonix

Avatar f tn I have some questions regarding some results of biopsies from an endoscopy I've recently had done. Any opinion you have is appreciated so I can gather some questions for my dr next week. Upper GI biopsy, duodenum Diagnosis: Duodenal mucosa with focal gastric metaplasia. No evidence of celiac desease. Negative for giardia or other pathogenic organisms. Neg for helicobacter pylori. Upper GI biopsy, stomach Diagnosis: Fundic and transitional mucosa with minimal chronic gastritis.
Avatar f tn Yes, it is possible for acid reflux to cause much of the symptoms you mentioned...it is best to see a GI Dr for testing as it is possible to have similar symptoms for too little acid as well as too much, so meds for too much can make you feel worse....and there are other medical issues that could cause similar symptoms. Go for testing and let us know what you find out. Also look to your families medical history.
1580703 tn?1651904887 While GERD could cause nausea, nausea itself is a very non-specific symptom and could result from GI infection/ inflammation, micronutrient deficiencies, GI motility issues, o non-GI causes such as stress/ anxiety, hormonal/ endocrine imbalances, metabolic issues, micronutrient deficiencies, medication side effect etc. I would suggest getting this evaluated by an internist initially and depending on the cause diagnosed/ suspected, it can be managed accordingly or specialist care may be sought.

Avatar f tn Ok so I had a upper Gi test done tuesday and they found I had little gastritis of the stomach and esophagitis and that my stomach was making to much acid. I been on protonix for 2 weeks now and after every meal and bedtime I take mylanta. I still feel sick all the time. Also i have very smelly green poop??????? How long can this take sometimes. what else can i rule out? Why could I be making to much stomach acid???? Please help its been three weeks a 2 days.
Avatar m tn I am currently taking Protonix 40mg twice daily (morning and night) 30 minutes before meals. Typically, the drugs will work for about a week or so, and the symptoms will return during week 2. I have an an endoscopy, stomach emptying test, barium swallow, sonogram, and Bravo PH test. The only results I have were that my Bravo PH test showed very high PH levels in my esophagus, but I was having more acid reflux those two day than I ever have had before.
Avatar f tn I was sent to a GI and scoped, stating esophagitis and small hiatal hernia. I was placed on Protonix once a day. I felt better, so went off, only to have a year of on and off again chest pain/breathing issues and on/off PPI medication. During this year, I have also had a full cardiac workup and full pulmonary function test, both of which were perfect. A few months ago I was sent back to the GI and he wanted another scope. This time he said GERD and to stay on medication.
168348 tn?1379357075 Zegrid is the equivalent to Nexium. Our GI wanted to give me samples of it for Jenna since my copay went up to 100 for the Protonix and I asked him what it compared to and that is what he told me, needless to say we did not change meds since the Protonix was working fine, I didnt want to risk changing meds.
Avatar f tn Hi, I took protonix for 5 years and all of a sudden it just stop working. I took it for inflammation of the stomach and inflammation of the esp, It is really miserable.
Avatar n tn However my Gastro DR says no way my hernia is causing this issue. Im on Pepcid, Carafate, GI cocktail, and protonix.
Avatar m tn Im looking for answers. For 2 years I had continuous stomach pain, heartburn and chest pains. I was seen numerous times in the ER when the pain got to bad. Everytime I was told there was nothing wrong. Finally one doctor decided to do a hida scan and found I had a low function gallbladder. it was only 17%. In November I had my gallbladder removed. I had a lot of pain and the heartburn instantly returned.. and I would get nauseas with one bite of food.
Avatar n tn I have lost 12 pnds in 3 wks.Was admitted to hospital for dehydration.Have an ultrasound, catscan, hida scan and upper gi series. The only thing abnormal was upper gi showed sever gastroesphagal reflux.I had a lap nissen about 8 yrs ago,and havent had heart burn since.Could this be a complication from the lap nissen, and if so would it have showed on these test if something was herniated?
270554 tn?1289511647 I been off it for 2 days but only took it for 3 will these symptoms go away soon? I also take protonix for gerd and ibs. I need some input I never felt so miserable before and I was in the hospital a lot in september. Please comment....
Avatar n tn The next day, the severe pain attack came again, he again was told to go to the ER and did. The same things happened, only no new RX for a PPI. Our PCP sent him to a GI doc for upper scope and colonoscopy - both came back as normal findings and negative for H. pylori. He was increased on the Protonix to 40mg BID and told that it was GERD.
Avatar m tn I have had 2 pyloric dilatations but I still have pain in the upper abdominal and chest areas behind the sternum. The regurgitation is better. GI and cardiology cleared me for any overt issues, but I'm having abdominal and chest pain, nausea and vertigo that starts with a strange wave or flushing in my belly and travels upward. It gets really nauseous and I can hear my heart pulsating in my ears. The vertigo is the worst. This feels like it is OUTSIDE of the stomach, but I'm not sure.
Avatar f tn After taking some higher doses of ibuphofen for a back injury, I started to have heartburn where my whole abdominal area from stomach to intestines felt on fire and I began having yellow stools. This has been going on for 2 months and I have lost 17 pounds. I was put on omeprazole which helped with the burning for a little while and then seemed to stop working. They tried ranitidine and it didn't work at all. Now I am on protonix 40mg twice a day.
Avatar f tn I have been treated for almost 2 months for what my Dr believes is a gastritis related to Naproxen. My symptoms were lots of burping, feeling full with very little food intake, heavy feeling in my stomach after eating, and a very full feeling in my upper abdomen and occasional heartburn and some nausea, no vomiting and lots of gas.. I was treated for 1 month with Losec 20mg with no real improvement.
Avatar f tn I had a LAD Stent placement and placed on plavix and 80mg Lipitor, within 2 days no energy, BP low,and black diarrea, been hospitalized 5 x for Gi bleed.and always put back on plavix Dr says I have to be on it for 1 year because of type of stent.
Avatar f tn I was hospitalized for a GI bleed from a gastric ulcer which caused acute blood anemia about 4 weeks ago. After I was discharged I started to feel better and get my energy back after 2 weeks. (I received 2 units of blood in the hospital). But, in the past week I have increasing started to get fatigued and only able to do limited min. activities. I also get easily short of breath when I exert too much.
Avatar f tn You may have reflux disease . A GI dr can determine this. He can prescribe a PPI like nexium or Protonix which should help these symptoms.
Avatar f tn t see anything no stones etc and sent me home chalking it up as anxiety and gave me a Ativan. Following days visited GI for follow up and was scheduled for a HIDA scan, scan came back that my efraction rate was at 25% but there was no duct blockage. The GI Dr recommended I have my gallbladder out and wanted to schedule surger. Was a little hesitant so went for a second opinion to a well known GI Dr. He told me that no surgeon would remove my gallbladder without me having stones.
Avatar n tn t know whether to pursue this with a GI doc or just monitor it for now. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Avatar n tn The doctor said it was stress and prescribed Protonix . Protonix is for acid reflux- I have never had heartburn or acid reflux. The pain subsided (I believe due to the Tylonel 3 which has codeine in it). I ate some chicken broth and crackers, took the Protonix and here a few hours later, I am feeling the pain coming back. I do not have any stress in my life at the moment, so I just don't think this is due to an acidic stomach from stress.
