Common Questions and Answers about Protonix food interactions

protonix

Avatar n tn Excerpt from Gallbladder Attack - Stomach Acid... "Too much stomach acid? Really? I mean, how is it that millions of people on PPIs are making too much HCl? Hyperchlorhydria or too much stomach acid is rather rare. If you're overeating, eating junk food or other food that is hard to digest, eating when stressed, living under stress, chances are much greater that you don't make enough hydrochloric acid or digestive enzymes and your symptoms stem from that.
Avatar f tn I went to a gi specialist they did a endoscopy and colonoscopy everything was normal I got a hiana hernia and a small ulcer to they got me on protonix 40 mg but scared to take it I have been taking gaviscon instead I don't know what meds you can or can not take with protonix
Avatar m tn gave me Protonix because I was experiencing some acid reflux...I took Protonix for 2 weeks (1 per day at 40mg) .. I have been having very bad side effects... Naseous, dizzy, increased anxiety, palpitations, gagging, insomnia, rapid heart beat. I thought I was dying. I called my Dr and he blew me off saying he never heard of such side effects and that I am getting anxious maybe I should see a therapist. I have no history of bad anxiety and racing heart like this..
Avatar f tn Hi from what I understand protonix is an rx while prilosec is over the counter meds...... so I do believe that the protonix is stronger.I am not a dr, just going on what I do know, I know both r PPI and work much the same way.....Ur dr should be able to say y he changed ur meds...everyone is different and react to the meds differently....maybe bcuz the prilosec dtopped working instead of changing meds he should check to see y u r making so much acid. I have noticed mine cycles....
Avatar f tn I take the synthyroid (complete thyroidectomy Dec 2008) and coumadin (DVT) at the same time and then 1 1/2 hrs later, I take topamax (migraine) and protonix (GERD). Is this enough time between each?

Avatar m tn I have been dealing with regurgitation of food for the past year. The regurgitation begins about 15 minutes after consuming a meal, and can last up to 4 hours. The best way I can describe it is that I have a need to burp constantly, and food always comes up with burping to the back of my throat, and I am able to swallow again. Most often, the regurgitation is non-acidic (more like vomit). I have been on different PPI drugs (Omeprezole, Dexilant, and Protonix).
Avatar n tn My biggest problem with my Gerd from the start is that I feel like my food gets stuck in my throat or down in my chest. When first taking The prilosec it workd after about 2 months and as i said I have been getting by with that or zantac until this past summer. I was eating pizza and suddenly thought I was dying due to the pizza not wanting to go down. Stupidly I tried treating this switching back to prilosec otc myself. It helped for awhile.
Avatar f tn It was only a days ailment and went away but now since yesterday I notice after I wake up and drink water with my pills I get this sensation that there is something in my throat and like I have trapped gas and I need to burp so I drink water and indeed I burp. I am on Protonix 1 x 40mg and I suffer from gastritis/esophagitis since 2010 but every fall and spring I am.in a flair. Any advice?
268911 tn?1213744781 Hmm...I took Protonix and Prilosec for a few years. I can't really say that there are any side effects...or any that I experienced. I definitely didn't get dizzy or anything like that. But one thing to remember if you take Prilosec with food..its almost like you didn't even take it. You need to take it on an empty stomach..prefereably as soon as your feet hit the floor in the am getting out of bed. Then eat breakfast about 30 minutes after you take it.
Avatar m tn Likewise, I was never told to avoid taking anything with my levothyroxine besides food and calcium/multivitamin (basically just not at the same time, but I could still have a multivitamin). I've also never had a problem taking benedryl (besides that it knocks me out) or any other drug with my hypothyroid meds. If you're on a drug for your hypothyroidism, there is this nifty tool at the top- under drugs, you can find drug interaction.
Avatar m tn It's not that you can't take aspirin at all. All ssris have a warning about interactions with all NSAIDS, not just aspirin. You just have to be aware of bruising that might indicate excessive bleeding. So you have to be careful. Don't know about food interactions, I wasn't told of any. Lots of weight gain possible, however, so watch the fat and sugar and be careful with diet. I think you're thinking more of the MAO inhibitors, they have lots of food contraditions.

Avatar m tn Currently, I am taking Protonix in the am and pm for heartburn problems that I have had for about 3 years (Dr thinks that it was likely GURD related symptoms). Recently replaced Protonix with Dexilant in the pm. Any advice would be great.
Avatar f tn I used to experience the same thing before I had surgery, sometimes balsalmic vinegar would seem to help. I knew that vinegar is slightly acidic, so I brought it up with my doc. He thinks that because stomach acid is so strong, the slightly acidic acid dilutes it. That being said, I'm curious why water didn't help. Was it very cold water you drank? I used to have trouble with that for whatever reason. How you take Protonix or related blockers is very, very important.
Avatar f tn Anyone out there on Protonix? I was diagnosed with acid reflux and was put on Nexium which helped slightly with my burping but I was still getting stomach aches. I went for an abdominal ultrasound, endescopy and CT scan with IV contrast and all came back fine. My Dr just switched me to Protonix.
Avatar f tn The Dr gave me Nexium, but I was still getting upper stomach pain and pressure in the chest an back. I was switched to Protonix and it seemed to help with the upper stomach pain right under the breastbone. I'm taking two pills a day. Does anyone know how long Protonix takes to work? I was told that some PPI's could take 4 to six weeks to take affect.
Avatar n tn I talked with my pharmacist and she said that there would be no problem. So I started taking it, but I should have found out the inert ingredients. The lame pharmaceutical company puts lactose monohydrate in Topomax (I cannot have any caisen/dairy products) and it aggravated my asthma and made me very congested. I get so mad that the pharm companies use ingredients that are in the list of top 10 food allergies.
708731 tn?1229049180 be sure to take your thyroid meds by it self 1hr before food first thing in the am is best! I would wait at least 3 hrs before taking the others.
Avatar f tn Anybody on here taking protonix for acid reflux. Since I started my third trimester I've been having the worst acid reflux/gas EVER! I can't sleep, I can't eat. The third trimester seems to be worst for me than the last two. Was thinking about taking some protonix that I have from my job but I read its a class B drug with no proven side effects to baby.
Avatar f tn There're few web sites that shows "drug interactions", and "drug/herb/food interactions" ...do a search online for words in " ",I am sure you'll find your answers.....if not, please feel free to message me and I'll send you a link.
Avatar m tn I was diagnosed with acid reflux 6 days ago and just began taking Protonix(6 days ago). I also take Atenolol twice daily for SVT for the last four years. My biggest issue now is I have been having difficulty swallowing. For several months sometimes when I would swallow food/medicine would feel as though it was going up instead of down when I would initially swallow. I was not having heartburn or feeling of esopgagus spams at that time.
Avatar f tn IT IS VERY IMPORTANT to keep doctor in the process as it could be disastrous with possible medical interactions or even food interactions such as grape fruit.
