Protonix b12 deficiency

Common Questions and Answers about Protonix b12 deficiency

protonix

Avatar m tn Additionally many PPI interfere with the absorption of B12. I am B12 deficient. I have Malabsorption Syndrome. We have been unable to keep my B12 levels even in mid-normal range hence the muscle twitching. The twitching was becoming so extreme that it was noticeable. Indeed an arm, leg or other part would kick uncontrollably. It was embarrassing and admittedly I was becoming frightened!
Avatar f tn I did some more research and found that protonix can cause a vitamin B-12 deficiency and anxiety. I called my doctor and they wrote me off right away saying the drug should be out of my system and maybe I suddenly developed anxiety (never had any issue with anxiety in my entire life) and that I should see a doctor. I started trying to fix it on my own - I was miserable.
Avatar m tn I am on a PPI ( protonix) and that causes you to absorb less B12 so I really need the shots. Are you on a PPI such as nexium, protonix etc?
Avatar m tn But also I am taking One a day daily which has 18mcg and that is 300% B12 of the recommended daily value. Do you think I am ruling out this B12 deficiency with this combination?
Avatar f tn i havent heard of that but i was diagnoised with b12 deficiency anmd it turned out i was 3 months pregnant lol
Avatar m tn t have to necessarily manage a b12 deficiency. Do let the neurologist know about your decision as well. My biggest concern if you stay with the neurologist is his/her availability to you. Keep us posted.
Avatar f tn I know that I'm B12 deficient. I've been taking supplements for 1-2 months. I recently started having a "medicine" body odor. Is that a symptom of b12 deficiency? Do symptoms get worse before they get better?
Avatar f tn The best treatment for a B12 deficiency is injections and regular monitoring of the B12 via blood work. If you do not absorb it as you stated, suggest getting blood work to see where your level B12 and other vitamins are at and then get treated. Thank you for your question.
334876 tn?1229979296 I would really like to know about this as I have been reading a lot about B12 deficiency and MS that the B12 and Ms dose seen to take a lot of B12 to heal the nerve sheeting damage from MS as I have been taking this B12 by shots and I still see no change from it and my headaches as well as other things are coming back again.
Avatar f tn There are some tests which can pick up Vitamin B12 deficieny before actually the anemia develops. Diagnosis of vitamin B12 deficiency is typically based on measurement of serum vitamin B12 levels; however, about 50 percent of patients with subclinical disease have normal B12 levels. A more sensitive method of screening for vitamin B12 deficiency is measurement of serum methylmalonic acid and homocysteine levels, which are increased early in vitamin B12 deficiency.
Avatar n tn I am a longtime user of Protonix for GERD, about 11 years. For the last few months I have had increasing problems with deep muscle spasms in my upper legs, spasms in my hands and fingers, feet and toes and esophagus. New Protonix info indicated long time users may develop magnesium defiencey leading to cramping in the extremities. 250 mg magnesium a day and now two times a day seems to alleviate the problems. I would like to switch prescriptions.
Avatar f tn Is it common for those with ms to have abnormally low levels of vitamin b12? I read that a vitamin b12 deficiency could mimic symptoms of ms but that doesn't explain remissions. Any information would be helpful. Thanks!
Avatar f tn Before four years I was severe Vit. D and Vit. B12 deficiency. Just two months before I have done root canal. From that I have severe back pain, sometimes burning sensation on backside, headache, feeling weakness, dipressed mood, not concentrating on work, anxiety. I have done blood test. My vit. D is 60ng/ml, vit. B12 680pg/ml. My CBC, HB, LFT, KFT, cholesterol is normal. Orthopedic Dr prescribed 4 tab. of vit D suggest to take one table after three weeks. I have also consulted to Neurologist.
Avatar f tn Recent blood test shows vit. D 111 ng/ml and Vit B12 is 1074 pg/ml (ref. Range 211-911). May I have elevated vit. D and Vit B12. How to bring to normal level.
Avatar m tn You have a vitamin B12 deficiency, and your neurologist seriously needs continuing education courses in cobalamin deficiency. Elevated MMA and Hcy also indicate B12 deficiency. A serum B12 of 300 is in the low-normal range, but this is because the "normal" range for serum B12 is too low. You are symptomatic and need treatment. The book, "Could It Be B12? An Epidemic of Misdiagnoses," Quill Driver Books---will educate you and your doctor(s).
718651 tn?1237042917 if u do not have a deficiency then it is not doing a whole lot of good..alcohol depletes b12..so if u pull an heavy drinking episode it is a good idea...most do it once a month for energy..along with a b6 supp orally to absorb it....if u r deficient then weekly shots may be recommended...when i feel really tired or have been ill or stressed..i pop myself with one...
Avatar m tn m 19 years old, female, I did blood test and i found that i have severe B12 deficiency, my B12 level is 128, and i have depression like symptoms, and i can't go to see a doctor, so after research i decide to start Methylcobalamin injections tomorrow, and i will take Methylfolate tablet because i read that you should take folic acid with B12, but I'm so confused about the dosage, can you tell me please what is the right dose for me??
601516 tn?1224884637 Hello everyone. I got to go see the neurologist yesterday. Thank God I seem to have gotten a good one. I was afraid that he would go with the other doctors and say that my problems were in my head, but he asked me what my symptoms were and listened to everything I had to say. He wanted to know how long it had been going on and then did his examination.
Avatar f tn I then asked , having done loads of research, if she had ever been tested for B12 deficiency, and he abruptly siad she would have been tested for this before diagnosis of Alzheimers, he looked through the notes and saw she hadn't had a B12 test, duly filled in the card & gave it to me. To my delight when I finally managed to get through she was deficient and has been put on b12 injections weekly for 6 weeks and then 3 monthly.
Avatar f tn Recently diagnosed with a B12 deficiency after 9 months of inconsistent and relapsing symptoms that lasted about 1-2 weeks. It started in February with spells of vertigo every 2-3 months, until in August I was finally diagnosed with B12 deficiency. So I started having injections, and after about a week of loading I felt better. After the loading I was told I wouldnt need an injection for at least 2 months, but less than a month later and I became really ill again.
