Common Questions and Answers about Protonix and plavix 2010

protonix

1274110 tn?1270788561 I am on plavix also and was taking nexium for gerd. My cardiologist told me to go off the nexium because the FDA has found that the nexium or any of the PPI's inhibits the plavix from working properly. I am now on pepcid instead of nexium. I am curious to find out if your cardio's had mentioned this to you. Protonix is in the same group of PPI's as nexium. Google plavix and ppi's or go on the FDA website. You will read a lot about the two meds. Just for your info.
1210142 tn?1266077031 I still have 6 small blockages so I cannot go off Plavix. My dr. took me off prilosec and put me on Protonix until my ulcer healed, then I took Pepcid AC 20 mg. He has recently had to put me back on Nexium for severe acid reflux, but told me to take Plavix in the morn. and Nexium at night. Have to have some blood work done in 1 month.
Avatar f tn My husband was diagnosed with PAD in Feb 2009, had PTA with stenosis in R Femoral artery, Plavix & ASA 81mg daily for 2 weeks post-op. 1 year later in Feb 2010 had recurrent claudication and another PTA in which stent was still viable. Increased Plavix & ASA 81mg to daily, indefinitely... Oct 2010 developed vertigo and high bp averaging 150/115...diagnosed with labyrinthitis, given steroid injection, Meclizine 25mg for acute vertigo, and Diazepam 2mg for sleep depriving vertigo.
Avatar n tn A healing leg (just out of cast) prohibits stress testing and the dr said he wouldn’t get the results he wanted anyway. I take aspirin 325, plavix, 80mg lipitor, protonix (just to protect stomach), 10mg zetia, capoten 25mg 3x, imdur 60mg 2x. I did have high blood pressure (150+/80+ p90) but am now unexplainably low 80/60 p 60 while on same meds. My question is – what do I do now?. Could these new stents possibly be failing?
Avatar f tn s very successfully for years, but also mixed in lab tests to make sure the drug mix I was taking could be tolerated. I was taking some very powerful heart meds as well, such as Plavix, Coreg and Ranexa and Lasix. Lasix requires taking gorilla doses of Potassium, so I was monitored carefully, every 90 days. I had a Nissen Fundoplication and also Heart Bypass surgery so no longer have to take any of these medications except Lasix and Potassium. I had no Magnesium depletion.
Avatar n tn I am on my second DES in my LAD-first a cypher stent that had a proximal occlusion at the leading edge of the stent after two years,8 months on Plavix and con't on asa-325.
Avatar m tn s, and he suggested I take Protonix instead. I simply unrolled my sleeves and showed him my purple, bruised arms and suggested my blood was really thin. He agreed, no change. However, I looked up the study and indeed, Prylosec can have an effect with Plavix in some people. I have to say, Jim, that a full 325 mg aspirin plus 150 mg of Plavix is a gorilla dose. As a caveat...
Avatar m tn 49 years old, family of five, and own my own software company. Had heart attack in Nov 08. Blocked artery. No idea I had it. Angioplasty and drug eluding stent. Put on Plavix, Aspirin, Coumadin, Simvastatin, Lisiniprol. Went through cardiac rehab for three months. Rehab went great. In best shape of my life. Then two months after heart attack, with one month to go in rehab, started to get terrible constriction in my throat - around my adams apple.
Avatar m tn Yes I will never go off the plavix again and am slowly moving up on the coreg and lisinopril. doing blood work each week to monitor and blood pressure once daily. I understand the ICD to be a safety device due to the higher occurrence of rapid heartbeat and sudden death when ejection fraction goes below 35. will have it implanted next week. What confuses me is that I was able to kick butt in the cardiac rehab and felt great. On appearence one would never believe I have heart disease.
Avatar n tn tripple vessel angioplasty done on 23oct 2010, since then fever with chill, what is reason?
Avatar f tn I had two coated stents inserted March 22, 2010 and have been taking plavix, 81 mg aspirin and continue taking coumadin (5mg 6 days and 6 mgs 1 day a week). I have my blood tested for IN/PTR regularly. Since taking Plavix and aspirin I have severe bruising. I try to be careful but bruise just brushing against a doorway, for example. My dog was sitting on my lap and when he jumped off to the floor the pressure of lifting off caused bruising on both legs.
Avatar m tn aspirin, lipitor, allegra, losartin, atenolol, plavix, protonix, hydrochlorothiazide and lantus and humulog for his diabetes. He was on reglan for a short time. He was diagnosed after many episodes with esophogitis and I cant recall the last one having to do with his stomach not emptying properly. He has been to a gastroenterologist and recently saw an new endocrinologist. He recently had a colonoscopy, his DR. was very pleased with the condition of his colon. He is 64yrs old and a tennis pro..
Avatar m tn According to the FDA the nexium inhibits the plavix from working properly. I also have a stent and was taking the nexium with plavix. My cardio took me off the nexium and put me on pepcid. Google plavix and nexium to get more info on this subject or go to the FDA website.
255163 tn?1376869746 My heart Dr will not let me go off the plavix and my surgeon will not do the surgery while on plavix. What happens in a situation like this?. I am between a rock and a hard place. If neither Dr gives in what do I do? If I have an attack and end up in the ER wouldn't they have to do emergency sugery?. Does this mean that anyone on plavix can never have surgery unless it's an ermergency. What is your opinion on going off plavix temporarily for surgery. I would welcome anyones advice.
Avatar n tn I have read so often that you should not take Plavix and aspirin, but it seems to also be common to prescribe both plavix and aspirin in certain situations. I am worried and confused. Thanks.
315318 tn?1353251800 The risk of restenosis due to a blood clot is minimum after about about a year, and the risk/benefit ratio favors discontinuing plavix and its probability to cause excessive bleeding. Did you have a test that indicates your are hypercoagulable (excessive blood clotting characteristics)? A PT-INR test that times the clotting time?
Avatar m tn The need for the life-saving operation trumped the worry of restinosis of my stents, and the worry of excessive bleeding because of Plavix and Aspirin therapy required extra planning during the surgery. I did have bleeding issues and spent about ten days in the hospital - it was complicated.
Avatar n tn I had angioplasty in 2001 and had a stent implant. My cardiologist prescribed Plavix and 81 mg aspirin daily among the other medications (beta blocker, ACE inhibitor, statin). I have recently moved to a new city and have not found a new cardiologist yet but family physician suggested that Plavix could be discontinued as the guidelines have changed and no long recommended after 12 months post stent implant. Suggestions please?
Avatar f tn I take Protonix to control my gerd. An allergist recommended this and it does seem to make a difference. Does anyone else take these types of meds to control their gerd and, ultimately, help with asthma? I cannot get Protonix any longer through my health insurance and was wondering if someone took something else as effective. Prilosec and Nexium do not have as good as effect as Protonix for me. Thanks.
Avatar f tn I had a "minor" stoke in May 2010. It is now October 2010 my dizziness, balance, double vision and strength have all improve greatly but I still have a dry cough that flares up almost daily. My doctor said it could be allergies and to give it time. I have done that but there has been no real improvement. The only medications I'm taking are a statin for cholesterol and Plavix. Any input on this cough would very much appreciated. Thanks!
Avatar f tn Thanks for your replies -- I called the doctor yesterday and let his nurse know I was having chest pains. She says to keep taking isosorbide, a long-acting nitro, which is why I didn't take nitro for the chest pain, for one thing the pain didn't feel too strong, but mostly because I knew I already had nitro in me and didn't want to make a big headache. Does that make any sense? Maybe I should try it anyway, to see if it does indicate blockage.
Avatar n tn The American Dental Association has agreed with the American Heart Association and the AMA, that there are no dental procedures that require the patient to stop Plavix. I read this yesterday, and the article mentioned that much to their dismay, cardiologist were still hearing from their patients that some nutty dentists were still asking them to stop Plavix for a procedure.
Avatar f tn There are dietary measures one is supposed to take when you have GERD, like avoiding fried and fatty foods, avoiding spicy, black pepper, and citrus and other aggravating fruit, avoiding dairy and anything else that aggravates it. Not eating within two to three hours of bedtime is another measure. Having the head of the bed elevated (using a wedge under your mattress if you don't have a hospital bed or fouton bed) is another measure, as lying flat is really bad for acid reflux.
Avatar n tn I have been on Coumadin for 18 years due to Lupus Anticoagulant (Antiphospholipid Syndrome) and several DVTs. In 2005 had MI with occlusion of the LAD artery and had drug stent inserted and I am still on plavix. My doc has debated when to take me off the Plavix safely....what are the recent studies about this dilemma? thanks so much!
Avatar f tn She was given platelet went up then down again Can plavix make it worse and will her platelet revert back to normal
Avatar n tn After that length of time it is generally believed to discontinue plavix but remain on aspirin. Although plavix and aspirin are anti-platelet agents, plavix has a different mechanism of action that seems to be specialized for drug eluding stent to prevent restenosis. Laviquin is an antibiotic medication! and there is a class-action suit against Laviqiin providers that is currently unresolved.
Avatar m tn Please note that the article mention plavix as used as "prevention of stroke" here we are speaking of Plavix to avoid restenosis and clots in the case that you have medical stents implanted. The situation is quite different.
