Protonix and osteoporosis

Common Questions and Answers about Protonix and osteoporosis

protonix

Avatar f tn I am wondering if long term protonix use has been linked to joint and muscle pain as well as hearing loss. I have been taking proton pump inhibitors for 18 years and have just begun hearing about bone loss and other issues. I have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia after finally seeing a doctor about the pain that I have endured for over 10 years.
Avatar f tn I take Protonix to control my gerd. An allergist recommended this and it does seem to make a difference. Does anyone else take these types of meds to control their gerd and, ultimately, help with asthma? I cannot get Protonix any longer through my health insurance and was wondering if someone took something else as effective. Prilosec and Nexium do not have as good as effect as Protonix for me. Thanks.
Avatar f tn i've had ideopathic gastroparesis for a year now and have been unable to find any help on what i should or should not eat to prevent or minimize symptoms. one suggestion was a low-fiber diet but the dietician i was referred to was completely unable to tell me exactly what that was. another suggestion was o soft diet. does that mean just eat anything and grind it up like babyfood or is it foods that become soft or are soft naturally such as jello & ice cream?
Avatar f tn Hi from what I understand protonix is an rx while prilosec is over the counter meds...... so I do believe that the protonix is stronger.I am not a dr, just going on what I do know, I know both r PPI and work much the same way.....Ur dr should be able to say y he changed ur meds...everyone is different and react to the meds differently....maybe bcuz the prilosec dtopped working instead of changing meds he should check to see y u r making so much acid. I have noticed mine cycles....
605893 tn?1220181685 Osteoporosis is most common in women after menopause, when it is called postmenopausal osteoporosis, but may also develop in men, and may occur in anyone in the presence of particular hormonal disorders and other chronic diseases or as a result of medications, specifically glucocorticoids, when the disease is called steroid- or glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis.
Avatar m tn m not getting relief with chiropractic care or anything else for that matter, I started thinking about medication and side effects. The protonix s the only thing that could possibly be the culprit. I went off of it two days ago, took omaprazole instead, and have had a 50% reduction in the pain. Has anyone else experienced this. I am reluctant to mention it to the doctor because I'm afraid he will dismiss it. I want to be sure before I talk to him.
Avatar m tn Osteoporosis is a common condition where the bone becomes thin and fragile, creating an increased risk of fracture. Osteoporosis is usually painless until a fraction takes place, and osteoporosis is a major contributing factor to bone fracture, including hip fractures, which are more common as people age. Avatar f tn Hi Selma, I thank God that I had an abdominal ulrasound and cat scan with and without IV contrast and all was clear. I was so afraid that I had pancreatic cancer. My Dr told me that the CT scan was the best test for the pancreas. I just get nervous because I still get a discomfort way up high under my breastboneand occasionaly in my back but my Dr said this could be acid reflux. My endescopy also showed that I have gastritis which I know is painful as well.
Avatar f tn I went for an abdominal ultrasound, endescopy and CT scan with IV contrast and all came back fine. My Dr just switched me to Protonix.

177337 tn?1310059899 RNRita - I'm worried about going off because it really did help. I used to use Gaviscon but it stopped working. I have been on Protonix for quite a while so maybe I will stop and see if I can have luck with Gaviscon and Tums again. Did the pvc's stop right away as soon as you went off it? WIsconsin2007 - I don't see any literature with palps as a side effect either and my cardio gave them to me and told me it wouldn't bother my heart. But I have to wonder....
Avatar n tn I have been using Protonix for almost a year now and it's worked great to help my Gastritis but I noticed something. Since taking it, my period comes later than it used to and for less time. I am a bit worried, is everything ok?
Avatar m tn Hospice care started this week. Protonix given daily - is it needed? Asymptomatic and no hx of gastric reflux.
1479013 tn?1330699762 t help but had to try that first before insurance would pay for Protonix. I have been on Protonix for over a year now and am having problems again. Right after I eat, I get bloated; I liken it to when you are full and you bend over to tie your shoe and you feel so much pressure on your stomach and diaphragm area and your head feels full of pressure. That's what I feel like after I eat and I am NOT bending over.
Avatar m tn I have been on prilosec, prevacid, nexium and protonix all at one time or other for over 16 yrs on a continual basis- no problems yet- but it can cause osteoporosis- I had a bone scan though and am fine- I was on reglan for over 10 yrs and it did start to give me tardive dyskinesia whih was very scary and I had to get off of it- I still get it even after stopping it at times
7469840 tn?1409845836 I just googled ribavirin and osteoporosis, and there does seem to some connection, so will try to print out some articles for new doc, and will take all my hcv tx info with me too.
Avatar m tn I take Synthroid for hypothyroidism, and I was diagnosed with osteoporosis, I have tried several times to take calcium supplements within the guidelines when taking Synthroid, (more than 4 hours before or after taking med), and I become almost immediately exhausted, and sleep for 8-12 hours. I take only about 250 mgs of calcium, and vitamin D as well.
Avatar f tn I have acid reflux and take protonix occassionally when needed...recently I had a bad scare where I suddenly starting gasping for air...I have had similar attacks in the past, but this one was major as I felt like I would stop gasping....There was no warning before the attack....It did subside...Is this common with acid reflux and what do I do when this happens? I did over indulge with food over the holidays...I am not over weight and I do exercise..
231441 tn?1333892766 My TSH is now and has been for some time, at 0.01, my FT's are now slightly < mid range; and my doctors keep saying that it's going to cause osteoporosis; however, I've done some research and found that not to be true. In fact, I just posted for information about that a week or so ago and was given a couple of good sites. Here's the post: http://www.medhelp.
Avatar n tn I started this the same time as my 2x daily protonix. After and during weight lifting it feels as though I cant breathe and have to sit down, then I belch for like 5 minutes. At the end it takes 2-3 hours before my stomach feels 'normal' again and I can actualy eat anything. I also have a hard time breathing due to this feeling of 'gas' in my upper stomach. I have had two endoscopies done with them saying my z-line (sphincter muscle?) was abnormal.
Avatar f tn My doctor told me that I have Osteoporosis and wants me to try Forteo an injection for two years. Has anyone tried this drug and what were your side effects, if any. I don't want to make my stomach problems worse than there already are.
Avatar n tn I have started mega doses of supplements and calcium and D and excercise and I want someone to tell me that that has worked for them. Most comments I get is to take the drug because it's more effective. I can't believe everyone is taking bisphosphonates or other drugs like that. Please let me hear from you if you see this!,,, Thanks, and hope you are doing well!
Nicelady I just had my frist Bone scan and the office called me and said I had osteoporosis and that they called in RX for Atelvia.. I picked up the RX and was reading the information and I am concerned about the side effect of this medication. Is this the only way to help with osteoporosis? Is there anything elso another way?
Avatar f tn Osteoporosis is the thinning of bone tissue and loss of bone density over time. If you do not get enough calcium, or if your body does not absorb enough calcium from the diet, bone production and bone tissues may suffer. As you age, calcium and phosphate may be reabsorbed back into the body from the bones, which makes the bone tissue weaker. And this happens with the bones of your entire body.
