Avatar f tn As long as one of the barriers is impaired or damaged, protein will leak into urine and thus form proteinuria. For people with Nephrotic Syndrome, large amounts of protein spill and into urine just because of damaged glomerular filtration membrane. Without effective charge barrier and mechanical barrier, glomerular filtration membrane can not stop protein passing through.
Avatar f tn With this, one has to check for the presence of hematuria or red blood cells in the urine, your blood pressure and total cholesterol levels. Nephrotic syndrome is a primary differential here. Was your kidney function assessed ( BUN and creatinine levels determined?). With the back pain, several differentials also need to be ruled out. This includes musculoskeletal pain, arthritc pain and an underlying spinal cord condition. Chronic pain conditions like fibromyalgia should also be considered.
Avatar m tn 5 g per day warrants further evaluation by a kidney specialist to rule out nephrotic syndrome. Additional diagnostic tests such as glomerular filtration rate, renal ultrasound, and possible intravenous urography and serological screening for autoantibodies and complement level. Hope this helps. Take care and do keep us posted.
Avatar n tn This can occur due to infections to the kidney, hypertension, diabetes, autoimmune diseases, nephrotic syndrome etc. Although a single measure of protein in a urine sample has less significance. I would suggest that you get a 24 hour urine collection and estimation of protein in that. This is a reliable method to assess the condition. Due to surgery, there is no chance of having proteinuria. It would be better to consult a nephrologist in this regard. Best.
622940 tn?1252515107 Where as presence of protein indicates damages to the tubular apparatus of the nephron. Proteinuria can be present in cases of nephrotic syndrome, kindney failure, pyuria, chronic infections etc. Both the symptoms occur due to damaging two different parts of the nephron, but these symptoms can occur simultaneously. It is a serious condition and would require immediate evaluation and treatment. All the best.
Avatar f tn In clinical trials, additional serious side effects in patients receiving Avastin with chemotherapy included non-GI fistula formation, strokes or heart problems (blood clots), hypertensive crisis (severe hypertension), reversible posterior leukoencephalopathy syndrome (nervous system and vision disturbances), neutropenia (a reduced white blood cell count that may increase the chance of infection), nephrotic syndrome (a sign of severe kidney malfunction), and congestive heart failure.
Avatar m tn I have done my homework (as per the web). been to a load of doctors. I was "Cured" in 2000, have felt like everone else. My diagnoses after treatment etc. are MGUS, Proteinuria, and I have tried to find info into Cryoglobulins and RF factor to make sure I don't have Cryoglobulimia. Has anyone looked into this? Thank You.
Avatar m tn I thought I would be IGE but that would be only protein than i thought I would be SLE but ANA was negative.. What about Nephrotic Syndrome? Or what about Glomerulnephritis? I've had 10 surgeries already due to Hydrocephalus so I like to get educated with my health. Anything you can tell me would be great. At this point I just want to get diagnosed so I can get on treatment and possible have another baby in the future but I don't want to take a chance without knowing my true diagnosis.
Avatar f tn i am concerned about the proteinuria which appears nephrotic in range. Active HBV could affect the kidney in this manner. HBV could also lead to liver cancer and lesions in the liver if it is active. If the HBV is active you definitely need to receive treatment for it. I am assuming that you do not have anything bad in the liver so would urge you to addfress the proteinuria. You should unequivocally be seeing a nephrologist.
Avatar m tn Prior to being diagnosed with Hep C I was diagnosed with nephrotic syndrome. My question is that if I have attained SVR what are my chances of my kidneys returning to normal. I've done research on this but have inconclusive answers. If anyone knows anything or can direct me to a site that shows remission rates for nephrotic syndrome post treatment of HCV it would be greatly appreciated. **I must say the stories on this site helped me get through this ordeal.
Avatar n tn Seven patients, of whom five were hepatitis C positive, developed renal function impairment long after transplantation, as well as de novo nephrotic syndrome (n = 5), severe hypertension (n = 5), nephritic syndrome (n = 1), and increased serum creatinine (n = 1). This type III cryoglobulinemia was associated with membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis and with thrombi within the glomeruli in one case.
Avatar m tn I recently saw a post on here where someone was asking the question connecting these two problems together....I am wondering what other people have come across? My daughter was diagnosed with Minimal Change Disease...which of course is idiopathic. I am wondering if Lymes could have been her "cause". Any thoughts or theories or? would be greatly appreciated!
Avatar n tn i am a patient of nephrotic syndrome minimal change taking prednislone 20 mg for 10 years i had protected sew with a sexworker after 10 days i saw a flat ulcer on my penies like a peel of skin it goes away in 5 days i tested for vdrl tpha fta abs and hiv dna test after 14 weeks all came back negative my question is are my test reliable i m worried about therotical concern of immunesupreession durgs
Avatar m tn hey my daughter is 9 and half years old she gets puss boils on her body which are painful....she was treated for it but got it again...
Avatar n tn Does this disease still exist or has the name changed? The reason I am asking is because it is pretty difficult to find information on this. Usually I find info for Chronic Kidney Disease or Polycystic Kidney Disease. I am just curious if it is possible to have FSGS and remain stable for the rest of your life? I was told initially when I got this that the time frame for kidney failure after diagnosis was usually 5-10 years. I have had this almost 10 years ago (diagnosed through a biopsy).
Avatar n tn I've experienced foamy urine.........when I was diagnosed with Nephrotic Syndrome, massive protien spillage causes it. Your doc should get you to provide a 24hr collection to have an accurate prediction of protienurea, a dip stick can be misleading especially if you are a high protien eater. Sometimes it can just be a reaction of certain meds that are being taken.
Avatar m tn It can also occur in cardiac failure, liver failure and nephrotic syndrome. So, further therapy and prognosis will depend on the cause. If you can get back with the diagnosis, I can help elaborate further. Regards.
Avatar n tn Hi, Frothy urine seems to be associated with increased protein levels in the urine ( as in nephrotic syndrome). Some have associated this with calcium levels and gallblader disease. As for the first question, at this point we can not definitely tell that the antibiotics made your urine frothy. However drugs are metabolized by the liver and kidney and are excreted in the urine.
377521 tn?1203473172 About half of patients present with evidence of renal insufficiency, and up to one quarter present with nephrotic syndrome. Others present with proteinuria or evidence of diminished renal function. The pathogenesis of hepatitis C-associated renal disease remains incompletely defined, but most evidence suggests that glomerular injury results from deposition of circulating immune complexes in the subendothelium and mesangium.
Avatar f tn painful months, I have finally been given a diagnosis of Posterior Nutcracker Syndrome. Over the last 13 months I have been admitted into the Hospital on multiple occasions, suffering from Pyelonephritis. I have had 1 abscess drained on my right kidney, which was the size of an apple and full of Ecoli.
Avatar n tn m afraid your friend has got the nephrotic syndrome. Back to 2005, his protein level of 1G/24hr was already too high. He needs to see a nephrologist immediately and start treatment straight away. A kidney biopsy could be considered.
1621810 tn?1300119023 Not a doctor but had proteinuria and lost a kidney. Had the exact same symptoms for years til a new doctor took over the office.
Avatar n tn Damage to the tiny blood vessels in your kidneys (glomeruli) that filter waste and excess water from your blood can result in nephrotic syndrome. One result of nephrotic syndrome is low levels of protein (albumin) in your blood, which can lead to fluid accumulation and edema. Worst case scenarios.
Avatar n tn Have them check for protein loss in your urine this might cause those symptoms instead of GI? There is a disease called Nephrotic Syndrome. This usually has edema (swelling in the feet, ankles, around eyes. However you could have vomiting and weight gain as well. Just a shot in the dark. I'm not in the medical profession, so please don't take this to heart, this is just something to read about. Don't be scared to come right out and ask your DR what he/she is checking you for.
