Avatar m tn I have very high proteinuria, and from what I understand this causes serum albumin levels to decrease. Right now my level of proteinuria is around 3 to 4 grams a day, and my serum albumin is slightly high at around 5.3 g/dL. Typically how high can my proteinuria get before I see a noticeable drop in serum albumin? If you are wondering, I do not have dehydration. I drink over 3 liters of water a day.
Avatar m tn If the symptoms persist then proteinuria can be the cause. It can happen due to renal causes or other causes like infections, sarcoidosis, multiple myeloma, and SLE. I suggest you to get an evaluation done from a urologist. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. Avatar m tn Persistently foamy urine can be a sign of protein in your urine (proteinuria), which requires further evaluation. Large amounts of protein in urine may indicate a serious kidney problem. In your case it appears to have been ruled out. Urinary tract infections (UTIs) and retrograde ejaculation are 2 other possibilities. In men, the most common source of the infection is the prostate gland (prostatitis). Hope this helps. It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage.
1973666 tn?1325964688 After 30 mins thin line of bubbles is almost gone. Maybe 1mm in spots, gone in others. After 40 mins only the tiniest bubbles remain either in single or double width line on the surface only at the edges. A second “test”, with urine collected about 1 hour later, similar in color, yielded almost the same results over about the same amount of time. I am an otherwise healthy person (male 41), with no known health problems and I am not sure when this may have started.

Avatar n tn Excess protein in the urine is called as proteinuria and usually it is albumin that is lost through urine. Some protein is normal in the urine. A 24 hour estimation of protein loss in urine would be optimal to estimate the level of proteinuria. Conditions which can cause proteinuria are nephrotic syndrome, glomerulonephritis, dehydration, collagen vascular diseases, strenuous exercises, diabetes mellitus, infections, multiple myeloma etc.
Avatar n tn Because the protein has left the body, the blood can no longer soak up enough fluid and swelling in the hands, feet, abdomen, or face may be observed such as seen in your husband. If your husband has persistent proteinuria additional tests must be done to evaluate his kidney function. In addition to blood glucose and blood pressure control, the National Kidney Foundation recommends restricting dietary salt and protein.

The common causes of protein in urine are a transient leakiness in the kidney’s membrane seen in fever, infection, etc. Transient proteinuria usually requires no special treatment. If your daughter is not having any symptoms suggestive of kidney disease do not worry. Get her retested. Keep me updated. Best luck and regards!
